I feel like any 'tournament' should be played on neutral courts unless it's tournament organized and put on by a school

Women's basketball did have neutral courts (unless you were hosting and qualified) until about 10 years ago until they moved to the current model

The current model for a what they used from 82 to 02...so it's not new.

And even the pre determined sites ended up being basically what you have now. One team was almost always the host team. Difference was that a lower seeded Iowa could be the home team.

Just think of the men's tournament doing this...

I think we would have seen better results in our years with 3 seeds.

No way we get upset in the 1st round at home with Carver packed.

No. At least in the current way, 2/3 of the first and second round games are likely to have good attendance.

If not, the low attendance would be sad and not good to see on TV. Trying to be growing the game but empty arenas...is a bad look. Money would also be lost. Did you see how empty that Duke arena was for the games NOT involving Duke?

It really doesn't make a difference. Typically the teams that basically make the tournament every year and had higher attendance was almost always the host sites.

That's not the point.

Yes the teams that have good attendance at home are often the hosts. No one is disagreeing with that.

That doesn't mean those teams would have that good of attendance were their first two games at a neutral site -- which is what is being discussed.

Iowa fans travel. That is not true of all the 16 host school's fans.

Look at the crap attendance at the Big Ten Tournament.

It is not that clear that the first 2 rounds for NCAAW would be well attended, if they were at neutral sites.

Thank you for a long post pointing out you missed the point.

The previous system ended up with basically the same result as today. Way more often than not a regional host site is at a school that will make the tournament and that school will be up as the home team, regardless of their seed.

The men's tournament isn't played on neutral courts . . . unless you think Iowa playing #1 Florida in Tampa is a neutral court, or unless you think Houston playing in Houston in the Sweet 16 is a neutral court. There are many other examples every year. Neutral court. LOL

The women should keep doing what they're doing, and the men should admit that "neutral court" is far more theory than reality.
