Something to think about regarding today's game

3 of our starters were absolutely putrid today, and gave us next to nothing.

Jelavic - 0 points. Nothing - in 13 minutes of play. Did get 7 boards.
Moreno - 3 points. 3 turnovers. Played soft and weak.
Chandler - 5 points. 1 of 9 from three. Not sure what is wrong with this kid, but it's in his head.

3 starters combined for 8 points, 5-13 from the field. These guys have a decent game and we win this going away. Surely they won't continue to be this awful?

This is type of game that can give a team momentum, but these guys are really gonna need to step up.

All true, but something else to consider about this game is Santa Clara has pretty good team and some nice players. They would have been a hand full for a lot of teams. So it was a luck win but a good one at the same time.

Jelly rebounded well and didn't get any run in the 2nd half. Pope likes to start him then go with Mo D at the under16:00 TV timeout or around the 12:00 mark.

Amazes me that he starts to get in the paint then freezes like a deer in headlights.

Got to change the starting lineup to reward guys who deserve that slot.
We cannot keep having 29 point halves and expect to survive.

Of course, Garrison made some great contributions today.

Jelly missed one bunny, but rebounded well and the offense flows with him in. You have to some what respect his ability to shoot outside and he passes the ball.

He should drive more to start the game. He has great athleticism. Get a couple fouls, make a couple FT’s. Then the 3’s will fall, I agree.

We need to play defense, I never understand why we play so slow and like such crap every first half, then are unstoppable and play fast second half. Play fast and lose like that all game. Run and this team is actually capable.

Start Garrison and sub Moreno, calm his freshman nerves, and he probably plays better.

If you think about the games Oweh, Garrison and Aberdeen played along with MoD, we played pretty well.

Funny as the announcers for the game praised CC throughout, saying how much good he was doing outside of scoring.

I 1000% agree the guy needs to start making some shots (and he's due), but the game is about more than just scoring and the guys who get paid to talk about it seem to think CC had a far more productive game than most on here do.

MM was bad today. Not much else that can be said.

Went back and watched the last couple minutes. What Otega Oweh did in the last half-minute can only be described as miraculous. If there has been a greater 30-second performance in NCAA history I'd like to see it. (seriously)

1. 27.1 seconds left: Dove on the ground to secure possession. (26 seconds left: Kudos to Brandon Garrison signaling timeout - huge)
2. 13.2 seconds left: saves a bad pass from Chandler.
3. 9.9 seconds left: Elite spin move between two defenders and layup ties the ballgame.
4. 0.4 seconds left: Hits one of the greatest shots in UK basketball history. (2.4 seconds left: Tip of the hat to Denzel Aberdeen for a great inbound bounce pass)

During this same period of time Moreno:
(1) lost the ball out of bounds with his weak one-handed rebound
(2) gets FROZEN on defense, leaves his man wide open and has the potential game winner drilled in his face.
(To be fair Moreno did set the pick at 14.7 that freed Oweh to hit his layup - a designed play)

Pope's decision to put Moreno on the bench for overtime saved the game - It allowed none other than Brandon Garrison to dominate - rebounding, deflecting passes and making two absolutely critical blocked shots (3-pointers) one of which he took to the house for a slam. (Oweh did walk though - we got away with it).

MVP:
1. Oweh (Historic performance + miracle shot)
2. Garrison (OT)
3. Dioubate (OT)

I really hope we don't throw this all away against Iowa State.

In MM locker room post game interview he clearly was crying his eyes out just prior. Either that, or, he was stoned out of his mind.
