A memo to cowardly P4 head coaches everywhere

Fred schedules Creighton (midmajor) every year, but we have suffered from this same elitism

when will others learn?

If Miami of Ohio loses 89-86 to Purdue in November they probably don't make the tournament with two losses. Nebraska played a number of power 5 schools in non-conference, they just don't want to play a mid-major outside of Creighton because it doesn't help them get a higher seed. This isn't about being afraid, just it doesn't serve a purpose. Doesn't really matter, A lot of weird teams made the final 64 and have a chance to make noise.

High Point hit some big 3’s down the stretch and Boyd couldn’t deliver at the end which he has done numerous times in conference play.

Game could have went either way.

I know he was successful numerous times, but damn. I told my kids that is why you don't do the same thing every time in one on one. Guy drove to the basket like 90 times in a row.

The sad part is the that committee has created a formula that the P4 teams use to their benefit. If you are in one of the non-power conferences you are kind of stuck in a tough spot.

Boyd is great when he is getting bailed out with foul calls. He is not as effective when he is not going to the line.

Mid majors don't matter in college anymore. He's going to lose his best players to P4 schools willing to pay more. They got lucky, WI chocked that game away.

Yeah if DJ Carstenson or one of the B1G's other trained dog officials is in the house, Boyd gets a foul merchant whistle on his last drive and wins the game at the FT line.

That makes the fact that the Badgers lost even sweeter.

Learn what?
The last 3 years we have suffered the same non-con scheduling fate as high point

a program on the rise but without the reflective metrics

literally nobody in preseason Q1 agrees to play teams like this because it’s perceived as a lose-lose when in reality it’s a quality opponent that wouldn’t ding a tourney resume

it’s bs. Anyone who can’t see it or disagrees is just clueless, as usual

Mid-majors need to play good teams because their conference is trash, Big 10 teams only need to play their conference schedule. It doesn't help big 10 team...I am sure they would roll, just like Tenn just rolled Miami of Ohio but there is no point when you have to play a full big 10 slate. If Mid-majors were abolished from the NCAA tournament it would not matter at all.

We play in the toughest conference in the country. We don't have to schedule anybody, especially a school nobody has ever heard of.

No one outside of this board considers the big east a mid-major. Its teams have 7 national champions since 2004 and the B1G has a big fat zero titles since 2004. Don’t let Nebraska basketball fans look like the Iowa fans of college football.

Matt Painter says it all right here. Nebraska's schedule was just fine. Don't know what kind of issues you have to bring Fred's name into all of this. NU was predicted to be 14th in the Big 10 this season and today we're playing to go to the Sweet 16.

Some of us are capable of remembering things that happened prior to the 2025-26 season

Go ahead and look at our non-con SOS the last 3 years

then remember we missed the tourney in 2 of them

nobody would schedule us because of preseason metrics just like high points coach is saying

this has been our fate for basically the entire history of our program

broken system only ignorant fools & proud elitists defend

Poaching players from great mid-major basketball programs is a problem. With NIL now, there should be no reason that transfers should have immediate eligibility anymore. These players should have to sit out a year.
How does NIL change that narrative?

It doesn't fix things necessarily. But it would help. There are FCS/mid major schools paying NIL now. Making a guy sit out a year would make a kid especially a basketball player think twice about transferring up. It could help. But as for the liberals who say a guy should be able to bounce around to a new school every year and make whatever he can, I would ask the dumb *** liberal if they have ever watched pro sports.

Up there among the most idiotic opinions ever shared on this forum

Yea let’s punish late bloomers/kids who worked their asses off to better themselves and their opportunities - that’s the American way!

So if the biggest dumb *** on this board says it's idiotic, that must make it common sense.

The answer is in the middle. These kids should be able to better themselves and earn more money (Court has ruled in players favor). However, I believe the NCAA (if they had an ounce of balls) would figure out competitive rules that finds a reasonable way to do this - without it being chaotic and a free for all. Some simple guidelines / rules, but not too restrictive like some may suggest.

NFL players can better themselves and earn more money, but there are guidelines around it. Right now the NCAA is a joke. Players can do whatever they want, whenever they want and it's a mess. I'm all for athletes ability to do this - I just hope cooler heads can prevail and there can be some boundaries like every major sport has.

I want kids to get all the money they can earn and I want them to have freedom to make a change. Now let's figure out what is reasonable amount of transfers for 1 player, etc. I'm not a big fan of kids having to sit out - that's a year of their life that is way too strict in my opinion. However, I think limiting the number of transfers during a career would be a reasonable rule that isn't too restrictive (i.e, 2 transfers, 3 total schools. Some may argue for 1 transfer, 2 total schools)
