And put everyone on commission, which might be a good idea...more wins=more$$
Love it. Brian O’Connor and his staff get paid like Ostrander and DoorDash drivers- base pay barely covers gas, then pure commission on every dollar the program actually brings in. Any complaints and Ramsey would say, “Tradition don’t pay the light bill, son. Football’s the cash cow and baseball’s the overpriced side salad nobody ordered. Cut it or commission it!”

If Dave Ramsey visited campus. He'd tell everyone to go home, it's all a waste.

Sit in your double wide. Eat beans every night. Don't turn on that tv to watch sports either, that's wasted money on electricity. Just sit there, stare at wall and save money.*

There are plenty of things to criticize Dave Ramsey for, particularly when it comes to investing advice but also when it comes to smart use of debt. But nothing you are complaining about has any relation to anything that he teaches.

Nah. He’d tell everyone “Guys, this isn’t about hating baseball. It’s about math. You don’t get wealthy or solvent by ignoring the numbers. Get on a budget, live within your means, invest in what produces, and cut what doesn’t. Cut the emotional spending first. Football’s the cash cow that saved the whole department’s bacon. What’s your plan gonna be? You gonna keep defending the deficit, or you ready to cut up the baseball credit card? I’m listening, but make it quick- I’ve got other people in Louisville with real debt to help!”

Are sarcasterics not a thing anymore?

I think what he teaches is solid for the most part. However he is impractical in a few areas of advice.

Dave understands ROI though.

Our ROI sucks in football & basketball right now.

We will see if our baseball investment pays off.

“Hey Curly, Dave Ramsey back on the line. let’s talk straight about ROI, because the numbers are telling a different story, and I don’t let emotions override math. Football’s ROI isn’t sucking- it’s carrying the whole operation. FY25: $48.3 million revenue, $37.6 million expenses = $10.7 million straight profit. That’s up from $8.2 million the year before. Basketball? Yeah, it’s not printing money like football right now and the numbers aren’t as shiny. That one may be fixable with discipline. Baseball? A $4.2 million deficit- expenses $7.6 million, revenue only $3.4 million- that’s negative ROI, plain and simple, Curby. “We’ll see if the investment pays off” is the same hopeful talk people use when they’re upside down on a car loan. Hope is not a strategy. You don’t wait for a miracle to fix bleeding- you stop the bleed. It’s time for beans and rice baseball. No more subsidizing a $4.2 million hole with football’s hard earned profit. That’s not investment- that’s gambling with other people’s money.”

Louisville is just mad that they are in a bad conference that won't survive. They care nothing about the good of the game. Nothing coming from an individual school can be trusted at this point.

Congress needs to stay out of it. If anything, we need to roll-back rev-share, that would help as far as school budgets. Besides that, let the boosters do what they want to do and let the players do what they want to do. If we are going to crack down on anything, make it be real NIL charges and years of eligibility.

I rate programs on wins & losses and what we pay for talent in the portal, and what they contribute.

Curly, thanks for calling back in. Right off I’d say your program rating system needs an upgrade. Right now it’s like grading a car on how pretty it looks while it’s upside down on payments. Baseball is that fancy sports car you bought on a whim because it looks cool and wins some races- Shiny chrome, loud exhaust, trophy in the backseat. Basketball is the minivan sitting under your carport that’s a little dented and overdue for an oil change. It’s definitely fixable, not winning any beauty contests- but at least it’s not dragging the credit score into the dirt. Football is that ugly old pickup truck parked in your front yard that actually hauls the load, pays the insurance on the whole fleet, and keeps gas in the tank for everyone else. It’s the one with positive equity. It’s time to trade in the dream machine in for something that actually runs without constant bailouts. Trade it in and use the positive money to get that truck a front end alignment and some new tires.

Did you convince anyone last time? Will you convince anyone channeling Dave Ramsey? There are other sports that lose lots of money with little interest from fans. He'd mention those because he's not concerned about upsetting the gals.

Our baseball’s deficit is bigger or equal to the entire rest of the women’s non-basketball lineup combined. When you combine the deficits from women’s soccer, softball, volleyball, tennis, golf, track & field, and cross country- that is still about less than or equal to what baseball loses by itself in a given year. The only women’s sport that consistently loses more than baseball is women’s basketball. Yes we need to take a chainsaw to women’s basketball funding, and I mean yesterday. Cut the funding way down- and then go out recruit for profit- meaning go recruit more of and better looking white girls. The market responds to what sells tickets, jerseys, and sponsorships. Bring in some attractive all American white girls who can actually play some- market them right with social media, posters, calendar deals, whatever it takes. Beauty sells, always has, always will. The athletic department’s job isn’t to run a social experiment- its job is to make money- and maybe win games along the way. But for a money losing sport as bad as women’s basketball- change the roster and go sell something.

I'll take a program that is millions in the hole, but competitive within our league.....over the LT fence-straddling that this athletic dept did for decades.
Not everything is about money. We just need better hit rates on transfers that we have been getting in Fball and Bskball, and win totals will increase.

Eh. I’m sure the Athletics Department put this release out to encourage more people to give but who the 17 pays attention to Twitter anymore? 😂

Good for Athletics, not that it matters…

Even with Mississippi State people donating, it ain’t enough.

You can’t fight Demography: Smallest School, Smallest State, Poorest State.

I’m also amused when you insult fellow alumni because You have provided enough evidence on your own as it relates to Mississippi’s brain drain and it being the Dumbest State…

I sure hope you aren’t a MSU employee. Your people skills are sħǐt

You dropped that GIF because you know exactly what I’m talking about. It’s why the WNBA’s ratings spiked a little when they started putting more marketable talent on camera. It’s why role players like even a Sophie Cunningham makes a lot of money off the court. It’s why certain players get NIL deals worth millions while others with better stats get crickets. It’s why posters, calendars, social media follows, and jersey sales go through the roof when someone that’s not even the face of the program is someone the public wants to look at. Even more so if or when it’s the literal face of it. Beauty moves product. Always has. You can post sarcastic gifs all day, but deep down you know the market doesn’t lie.

I used that gif because it both perfectly captures my face while reading your comments and because its of a black guy and you were ranting about race.

- I did not use that gif because I know exactly what you are talking about.
- I am aware that beauty helps drive interest.
- I disagree with your idea of MSU signing a bunch of hot white girls to play basketball to push them to be in calendars and drive social media views, as a way to reduce the program's losses.

I’d trade rosters right now with Middle Tennessee State- similar results on the court- but I’d cut the deficit down and sell more stuff for sure. Have you seen their freshman Blair Baugus? And she’s a really good basketball player this year. They also got freshman Macie Pfifer out of Ingomar MS- she a nice looking girl and has done really well also thís year. They have two or three other nice looking girls as well. Why didn’t we recruit at least Pfifer from Ingomar?
