But if you notice, Nivar can really jump. Her vertical leap is off the charts. The next time you watch her play, I want you to notice how high she gets up off of the floor. Kate does not have that same type of athleticism as IN. If you go back and watch the Duke game on Sunday, there is a play where IN snatches a rebound away for TF. She had to out jump TF for that rebound who is 6 feet 2 and she does it. There were times where coach put IN at the 4 because of athleticism. TH has this as well. CB mentions this in the post game about the things that Nivar brings to this team that will be surely missed next year. I found this for you to read about Nivar. Kate does not have this ability. Based on available information from March 2026, North Carolina Tar Heels guard Indya Nivar is recognized for her athleticism and high-flying play, However, she is noted for her ability to get to the rim and her explosive playmaking, recently being highlighted for her "record-breaking 43.5-inch vertical leap" in a report regarding a 74-69 win over Duke on March 1, 2026. Lumbee63 Kate does not have a vertical leap like this. This is why IN can play the the 3 and 4 at times during the game.

I don't recall Nivar being the top player in the country coming out of high school like Harpring is. Most rebounds are taken below the rim anyway. I don't think MJ or DT had a vertical jump that high. I've never seen Nivar leap like that. I've never seen her jump high enough to touch the bottom of the backboard. If her vertical is that high she should easily be able to dunk. I'm 6'0 and played D1 ball (I'm a male) and my vertical wasn't close to that but I could dunk the ball. 43.5? I'll ask CB about that becasue that is very hard to believe. That's clsoe to Olympic high jumpers vertical.

What you have seen is Sonny Styles jumped 43.5 and that has been attached to some of Nivar's articles. It's called click bait. Learn to differentiate.

I am 6-0 and my 2-step vertical was about 36 in my youth, and I could dunk 2 hands with relative ease. I doubt if there was a 43.5 vertical at the NFL combines this year.

2forheels, I played college ball too, I am sorry that you cannot jump that high. I have son who played both college football and basketball. His athleticism is off the charts. The same as Nivar's. He is 6 feet also, and he has a 50-inch vertical jump. He went to a camp at Elon going into his senior year and that is what was recorded. I have it recorded on my phone that I show people and they are like wow. The next time our girls play; I want you to watch how high she gets off of the floor. Why do you think, CB had IN playing the 3 and 4 some this year on the defensive end. Brittney Sykes played at Syracuse at 5 feet 9 inches tall. This girl can jump out the gym at 5 feet 9 inches tall. She is also very athletic. Here is a video of Sykes. I am sorry but Kate is not as athletic as these girls. This is why I stated that she would not be able to play the 3 like some other poster had stated.

Here is a video of my son dunking at 5 feet 9 inches tall when he was in the 8th grade. I know what I am talking about.

Kate is too small to play the three. AT 5 feet 10 inches tall that will not be wise to even think of putting her there. The other 3's would take her down in the paint and they would abuse her there. Remember how they did RK and DK when the other teams had a mix match. IN can do it because she is more athletic and IN can jump off the floor very well. She has tremendous hops which I think Kate does not have. Kate is more effective at the 1 and 2 IMO.
This is women's basketball not men's. At 5"10 she can definitely play the 3. And even if it's not for extended minutes she can 100% play the 3 if UNC goes small

Harpring can easily play the 3. And no Nivar does not have all-world vertical talents. just above average for a d1 wing player. She does play strong and know how to high point a ball, though.

With that said, barring injury or transfer we are two deep at every position. Anyone playing a little out of their best position will be taking minutes away from someone likely more efficient at that position.

Again, Nivar does not have a 43.5 inch vertical jump. That was my point. She's not even close to that. A vertical jump is measured by standing flat footed and jumping straight up off both feet without bending the knees.

Michael Jordan’s maximum vertical leap is widely reported to be 48 inches (approx. 1.22 meters), often cited as the highest in NBA history. While not officially recorded by the NBA during his era, this measurement is frequently attributed to his 1984 U.S. Olympic team trials.

Vince Carter had an official standing vertical leap measured at approximately 43 inches (109 cm) during his prime. As a 6'6" guard with a nearly 7-foot wingspan, this elite athletic ability allowed him to famously dunk over a 7'2" center in the 2000 Olympics and reportedly touch the top of the 13-foot backboard.

The highest vertical jump with a running start officially recognized by Guinness World Records is 1.27 meters (4 ft 1.92 in), achieved by Darius Clark in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, on June 28, 2022. Clark, a 6'2" former college track athlete, later reportedly improved this mark, with some reports indicating a 51-inch. Notice this says RUNNING not STANDING.

You need to enter your son in the Guinness book of records. and no, you don't know what you are talking about. Nivar's vertical is around 25 inches. Just stop telling fibs. Vertical jump is not the same as running and jumping. If you played ball you would have known this.

Okay, bro. I am not going to debate with you any more. I will say this. Some of yall told me back before the season started that TH, TQ, and LH would get little to no playing time this season and I told yall that they would. I guess I do not know what I am talking about because these three have gotten significant playing time this year.

Fair enough.

And I wasn't one of those.

Seems like with the Womens line ups things are done with emotion then production for Womens by the fans. In NO world should RK start over our Current starting back court. She isnt better then them. If Arni isnt starting Im pretty sure she is gone. She is to good and clutch to come off the bench. Bring in Harpring to run a 3 guard offense, Brooks starts at 4 and you have to bring in an athletic big. Blanca isnt good enough. Toomey is a finesse big that is super slow and not strong. Suited more as stretch 4. This lineup with a big who can control the paint will put you in position to win a title. Hull, Henderson, Toomey off the bench. Please!!!!

This is going to be a good problem to have. I think I would have to run a three guard offense. Kate will have to start now. She is the Naismith player of the year for the 2027 class. I am not sure what the starting guards will look like next year. RK, LG, EA, and KH. Three of them should be starting and NB might have to go to the four spot. They will have to compete for those starting spots IMO, including RK now. They will definitely need to go a big our of the portal, either a four or five. they will need to go after a legit big. They must pump out some NIL money IMO. Go Heels!

It will be interesting to see what our preseason ranking (both conference and nationally) will be with the loss of Nivar & Harris and the addition of Harpring & Bofia.

I don’t want to speak definitively but agree that Elina should start over RK

Elina has really played good for us since RK went down. I love them both and hope
we can keep both of them.

Kate, Lanie, Elina and Reniya is the stuff dream are made of for a backcourt or 3 guard lineup.

If we bring everyone back I think we can do some special things next year.

To me, the offense has flowed much better since Elina took over PG full time. She is our starting PG next year.

If I was CB, I would go into next season telling the guards that no spot is guaranteed right now and that all starting spots are up for grabs. Competition will be good. The talent level next year is going to be so good that IMO each player will have to compete for the starting spots. Like I stated earlier, some people who started this year may not start next year. This is going to make or force these players to work on their games during the off season if they want a starting spot. I would not give it to them, rather they will have to earn it.

Wishing and hoping for the best but in my opinion not sure if RK will ever be the player she was before the injuries. Hate to say this but she is having the same problems as McPherson did earlier, that's been the curse of PG's at Carolina.

EA stated that she had lost her confidence for a minute, but her confidence came back once she was forced to start when RK could not play. She said her teammates really help by encouraging her and telling her to shoot the ball, etc.

Elina really came on strong late in the year. I think she might have even more upside to her game as she
gets more experience and her teammates love up on her for her good play.

In Roy Williams vernacular "she is a tough little nut". I am really enjoying watching her play.
