It is sickening to know that he would have loved to be here for the last few years of his career. Too late now, but we wouldn't be in our current situation.

I'm sure someone is going to say " but we beat him this year", but the reality is that Pitino is still on another level than our current coach. Everyone knows that.

We had several proven coaches who would have loved this job, but Mitch thought it might be fun to experiment.

We should have hired him back when he left Boston. Cowardly Kentucky administration couldn't see the bigger picture.

Remember the story about the AD meeting with Pitino to see if he would take the job if Tubby were terminated but he turned it down? I may have my facts mixed up but some people swore that was true back in the day.

The correct story is that Tubby had agreed in principle to coach the 76ers in December of 2000. Tubby had been a team USA assistant and was very well liked by a lot of league players. Pitino was going to come back in. Stephen A Smith broke the Tubby to sixers story in January of 2001 and then ownership got cold feet and hired Larry Brown. AI won league MVP and they made the finals. Crum got fired/retired and Pitino had to choose between Michigan, UNLV and UL. He chose UL and Tubby never got another NBA opportunity.

Thanks! Was there a point that after the Sixers changed direction that UK was going to just push Tubby out and hire Rick? Or, was that just rumor or my bad memory?

Nah. Tubby won the 99 SECT, made the elite 8 and then won a share of the 2000 regular season. He wasn’t getting pushed out by Newton. Plus the football program was completely on fire with Mumme seemingly trying to get the death penalty.

Absoloutly ZERO chance that was gonna happen after tubby won that title. Had he struggled those first 3 years then Pitino would have been back. But ain’t no way they were going to let him go after that.
That one title may have cost use 5 other ones.

Nolan was 4-6 against Pitino, including three losses in the SECT after winning the regular season game. Pitino won his final four games against Nolan at UK.
You have to realize you’re talking to an Arkansas fan. I know we don’t usually concern ourselves with discussions of that poverty wannabe program, but in the chance you do, you have to significantly lower your IQ to understand them. And forget any facts presented.

I don’t think it was ever about UL but it was Ricks way of getting back to Kentucky and back around horse racing and what better place than Louisville. Still a ****** place to go after his history here, but it was never anything about Kentucky. Ain’t nobody gonna wanna live in Vegas or Ann Arbor over Louisville.

I never said you were from Arkansas. I said you were an Arkansas fan. Anybody who would root for that school either loves losing or has the IQ deficiencies. Take your pick. Not sure which is better tbh.
JakeKx, I like you dude. I have been a fan of your posts for quite some time now. Always enjoy reading them. Just fyi.

Wow.

Knew none of that. Just one more reason to dislike SAS...
