The resume isn't very impressive but everyone has us in and advanced metrics seem to love us. Whats your guess?

I feel we will be a 10 seed and after we win, we'll beat #2 Iowa State /dont@me

Unfortunately ISU might play themselves onto the 1-line if they beat AZ tomorrow, especially if end up winning the B12T.

But I would love that scenario, because not only would the Hawks *potentially* get another shot at the Clowns, but they'll be in the St. Louis pod for the round(s) of 64 (& 32).

IF Hawks end up in an 8/9 game, hope its where ISU is the 1 - should ISU win tomorrow and then the B12T trophy.

I would love Iowa to beat an ISU 1 seed team.

I highly doubt they put us in the same pod as ISU. However, Joe Lunardi has us possibly playing Michigan in the 2nd round in his bracket, which can happen (MSU played Minnesota in the 2nd round of the NCAAT a frw years ago). Earlier today Lunardi had us playing UCLA in the first round in a 8-9 game... which I don't think can happen or shouldn't happen, but who knows the changes with all of the conference realignment...

Doesn't the NCAA love intriguing 2nd rd matchups? I feel like it has a chance

As far as I know, conference opponents cannot play in the first round. They can play in the second round if they only played once during the season and in the Sweet Sixteen if they played 2 or fewer times. They’ve always been able to play in Regional Finals.

Lunardi's head is spinning faster than a toilet flushing this time of year. He doesn't know his head from his as* right now.

Even if they had won feel like with FL not getting upset in sec tourney and in the semis they have last 1 seed locked up. But more so isu solidified a 2 seed. Felt like Houston and UConn had 2 spots secured but with IL and msu losing in qtrs and isu losing at the buzzer they will get a 2 now.

Most likely 9, maybe 10. Speaking of metrics read an article where it’s saying teams on or last few in its one of the weaker years in memory. Fact that IU and Auburn are still discussion proves that. Most years would’ve have had no chance. This year still small hope and feels like committee puts in one team most thought wouldn’t make the field.

I can just about guarantee Iowa will be put in a Friday/Sunday pod, and first game will be slated to begin either in the first or 2nd window of start times on Friday.

(I'm off Thursday but have to work on Friday)
No, they will be in the first game on Thursday which they will lose, thus ruining the rest of the tournament for us Hawk fans before it barely gets started.

Even more reason for a team like Miami (OH) to be in the field; hope they don't leave out a 30-win team in favor of a weak 14-loss bubble team.

I remember the season we played Gonzaga in the 2nd round was the best. Our game was the last game on Sunday on the West Coast. Iowa actually made the "Final 17." LOL.

Actually decent chance it could happen this season, too. I think Iowa has a pretty good chance of being on the 8/9 line opposite Arizona. San Diego games are Fri/Sun.

Feel like at very least Miami OH should be in play in game.

Off topic rant with play in. Call me crazy but with play in I don’t like how small conf. who won their tournament 4 are forced to play in Dayton against one another. Feel like play in should be last “at large” on the bubble and not for automatic qualifiers. And yes maybe Iowa would be in last 8 at large this year and be in the play in so be it but don’t like how they punish smaller schools who earned their spot in.

A couple ways of looking at it. The four 16-seeds who are in the First Four all have a chance to win an NCAA Tourney game, then spend a day celebrating, traveling and preparing to play Goliath. I don't think too many of those players/coaches/fans despite having that opportunity.

I'll predict 10, WAB is in 10 range and think that's going to be most important Metric this year.

10 seed vs 7 St Mary's
Houston as the 2 in same pod.
Probably, given some of the other teams around us and their end of season results.

I just have a feeling, though, that they'll read that fans would prefer a 10 seed to an 8/9 and they wouldn't want to give Iowa fans what they want..........

Yep. I said 9 vs 8 Utah State in Arizona's pod.

Not sure why Utah State is an 8 seed, but that's what the experts all say.

At this point for that to happen they'd been in Greenville with Duke or Buffalo with Michigan. The other 1 seeds are projected at Friday locations.

What exactly is unimpressive of this years teams overall body of work? By almost every metric they deserve to be in.

Those smaller schools are not being punished. They ARE in the tournament. And they count as tournament games.

People need to stop thinking in terms of 64 teams being the size of the tournament. It’s not. It’s 68 teams. And because 68 doesn’t halve down to 2 (68-34-17 as opposed to 64-32-16-8-4-2), then you need to have an unbalanced round i.e. the First Four, to get back to a number that halves down to 2.

It’s really no different than when there were 48 teams. Back then, 16 teams did not play on Thursday/Friday because 48 didn’t halve down to 2.

There are 2 solutions to getting rid of the “play in game” fallacy:

1. Expand the field to 128.

2. Create actual play in games that consist solely of at large teams. Label them as play in and not counted as tournament games record-wise.

It is insulting and belittling to the teams who won their conference tournament and are in a First Four game to say they are “not in” the NCAA tournament, and they have to “play in” to a tournament they already qualified for.

With that in mind part of my prediction above was also based off what I don't want. I've seen St. Mary's a few times and they would be a bad matchup for us. They're tall, good iq and good shooting. They're a more methodical but less talented Illinois. I'd rather take our chances on someone else. Houston I just don't see Iowa scoring much more than mid 50s but to your point 1 seeds might even be bigger challenge.

Wins/losses isn't great when considered against other 8/9 seeds. Are other metrics are much better than most those teams. Just depends what committee values. By any resume talking point Iowa should be in field of 64 though.

I think their in for the obvious reasons but the Ben Mcollum story with D2 players is a good story to bring into the tournament. Hopefully they will over acheive for at least 2 games.

I really hope you're wrong (about them losing), but that could very well unfortunately be too true.
