Firing Pope will not elevate us out of the middle of the SEC. That might need to be done, but coach cal struggled for 5 years. Firing pope might need to happen, but the state of the programs decline isn't Cal's fault nor popes fault. Cal owns more of the fault then pope does. But I was here posting in 2021-2022 that KY better get with it on NIL or be left behind.
I was soundly rebuked! But feel like I was right on that matter! There needs to be a lot of legwork done whenever they replace pope. You don't just fire and hire. That's IU's model! The next hire needs to be a "Great" hire! But even that isn't guaranteed success!
No, hiring a great coach at a school like Kentucky is guaranteed success. But I don’t expect this administration to make even a good hire.

2 of Cal’s last 3 seasons we were a 2 seed and a 3 seed. Every top player in the country looking at UK. We were a brand. And on top of the basketball world.
We got upset.

Only thing I miss with cal is the recruiting. The UK program with NIL money, he would have brought in some top talent. Don’t even get me started on his weaknesses lol
Some of yall memories are clouded by first round losses. Those losses were terrible but those two seasons UK was a 2 or 3 seed meaning their regular seasons were a mile better than we are doing now. Cal isn’t a good bench coach and stubborn to a fault but we at least had the talent. Pope is gonna try to live off of the portal and we’ve already seen how risky that is.

I’d like to see just one season with a point guard. Just one. Recruit a couple this summer so if one gets injured you still have one.

That is easier said than done, in today's game. No one wants to come off the bench. So there is going to be a talent gap there. It is why i am so against the portal. Everyone talking about signing studs out of the portal. What studs are there. If they are studs. They take their game to NBA or they are paid by the school they are at. The players in the portal are not studs. They will never be studs that you can build a team around, They are for the most part role players to plug into a team. But not for building a team.

So have 4 other coaches. One of them four times. ALL with far less talent. Yes he went 38-1 11 years ago at KENTUCKY and then lost due to coaching. That was his peak, and then downhill from there. Why is a hog fan on here attempting to tell us about our history? He will never repeat what he did at Kentucky again. But hey, enjoy those recruiting banners I guess.
kentucky fan here, but theres like one thing you gotta realize
1. popes still not winning at a high level regardless of what cal does
2. cals teams even when they didnt win it all they were still way more entertaining, + it was fun to support the cats when they went on to play professionally

Once again. It's not a binary choice between Cal and Pope. Yes , I know Pope sucks, but the I don't understand the Cal slurping. I mean, is Brad posting on here? Lastly, I wish almost all former cats success after they leave Kentucky whether it's in basketball or some other field of work. But I think I speak for myself and a lot of others on here when I say, that I really don't care about the NBA.
