Appoint someone convicted of election fraud to serve as "Election Czar" monitoring future election fraud. What could possibly go wrong?!

And, no one before trump in 2016 complained. (But wasn't it Hillary who said the election was stolen and democrats who wouldn't accept trump? not trying to be partisan). Likely not one of the non citizen votes overturned/influenced an election. And, we might very well be solving a problem that doesn't exist. I accept all of that. I simply feel that the arguments against being able to register are bogus.

I could be just as satisfied if we kept things the way they are, but a mandatory 5 year sentence and $250,000 fine for a non citizen voting in an election

On voter fraud for decades: we had a statistically insignificant amount of fraud then and now. Nothing has changed except Trump and we have better methods of detecting fraud than we did in the past.

On Hillary: this is a tired whataboutism argument that has nothing in common with what Trump has done. Hillary didn't claim the votes themselves were fraudulent - she blamed proven Russian interference and Comey re-opening her email investigation 10 days before the election. Also unlike Trump, she immediately conceded and attended his inauguration. These things are not the same.

On penalties: Election officials are everyday Americans who work hard to ensure a functioning democracy and many have been quitting in droves to avoid the heavy-handed penalties they are being threatened with. Under these bills, election workers could go to prison for up to five years if they help to register somebody without the correct documents, even if the registered voter is a citizen. On bogus arguments: I might be more sympathetic to your point if we were talking about future elections and not the mid-terms, which won't give us enough time to make sure that all systems are updated and all citizens who need to re-register have time to do so. We should not be rushing to get this implemented in such a short amount of time for a constitutional right. And we haven't even mentioned that Trump is now pushing for all mail-in voting to be eliminated except under the strictest conditions. And all to prevent a handful of "potential" fraudulent votes that would most likely be caught anyway.

If the SAVE Act was a future looking proposal for the 2028 election, I wouldn't have a problem with it but to force the issue now will disenfranchise more legal citizens than prevent illegal votes.

well this has been a civil debate. Like I said, I think you have some valid points, and for sure, I think I do as well.

In the end I don't think the SAVE act gets passed, not because members of either party don't want secure elections, but because neither wants to give up their political points

There's a lot more to the Save Act than photo ID

Trump is now insisting anti-trans legislation be included along with no mail-in voting, making it more difficult to register and threatening five years in jail for election workers who mistakenly accept incorrect documents, even if the applicant is a US citizen - hell, even private citizens can sue election workers under the same circumstances.

These things are not the same.

One of the Obama “tactics for disqualifying them was to challenge signatures on his opponents’ petitions by married women who signed using the wrong name,” he posted Sunday, which happened to be International Women’s Day.

“Beginning on Jan. 2, 1996,” Freddoso writes in his 2008 Journal piece, Obama’s “campaigners began challenging thousands” of qualifying petition signatures that “the other candidates in the race had submitted in order to appear on the ballot. Thus would Mr. Obama win his state Senate seat, months before a single vote was cast.”

The petition challengers reported to Obama “nightly on their progress as they disqualified his opponents’ signatures on various technical grounds — all legitimate from the perspective of law.”

“In the end,” says Freddoso, “Obama disqualified all four opponents — including the incumbent state senator, Alice Palmer, and three minor candidates.”

So Obama began his noxious “public service” career using dirty Chicago Democratic machine politics, going so low as to even disenfranchise females. Joyce Alene certainly has the right to voice her opinion ..although she's really not giving an opinion just throwing a "hand grenade " into the conversation to raise doubt. I don't know what Maxwell told anybody and apparently neither do Congressional investigators republicans or democrats(But Joyce apparently does?) Maybe Maduro is talking and making statements the administration wants to hear...but does that mean that Maduro is lying, or is he just reaffirming the truth the administration official already know the answers to?

I'm not discounting your belief, I just can't tie the two together yet
