It's not true in terms of who is playing. We have a rip-off artist JQ and a for real injured Lowe out. That's an estimate 5 million or more right there. We also have a just recovering Kam and I don't know his cost. But, Florida didn't just beat the 22 million roster and I am tired of the press suggesting it otherwise.
22 mil for this roster is awful either way u wanna spin it, injuries or not

You’re going to keep hearing it. And next year you’ll hear it again when we inevitably suck, which we’ll probably find out early on against Kansas.

Okay bro, it's a $17M roster.

Feel better?

Pope is the one who paid for this roster and also doesn’t think he needs a GM. He’s fully to blame!

Also, you can’t blame JQ. You don’t pay a premium for an injured player. You get him at a deep discount and the offer to rehab here and hope he can play. He was a long shot to play in the first place.

Plus it was a completely made up figure by the media to make it easier to bash UK. Name 1 other school's payroll

This has been one of the larger PR disasters and neither Pope nor Kentucky has done a damn thing to debunk it or defend it.

The entire UKAA just seems to sit there stupidly, blowing through millions and creating stupid contracts while the basketball program slowly burns to the ground.

This isn’t about “blame” but just because I have a Ferrari sitting at home in the garage and you win a race against me when I’m in my Camry he cost of my garage isn't relevant.

That is to say, discussions as to whether the roster was poorly constructed are perfectly valid, but analysts on TV talking about how we underperformed with a $22 million team is less valid. He team on the court didn’t get $22 million. It’s like bragging about beating the Bulls with Jordan out sick.

Discussing the cost of the roster isn't relevant when discussing the results on the court if said roster wasn’t available to play. The relevant discussion would be whether we got our money’s worth out of JQ and Lowe (obviously we didn’t) and whether Pope made poor choices as to where to spend his budget (clearly he did).

Since we are Kentucky and it got reported early last summer, the whole $22M roster storyline has followed us all season. I’d be surprised if what we actually paid was much different from Arkansas or Michigan.
Yep! I called this BS way back in the preseason! I said it would be used against us all year! If we had a great season, the analysts would’ve said, “well they should, they have a 22 million roster.” If we didn’t they’d say just what they’ve been saying. A catch 22. No pun intended.

I like the way you spin it but it still hurts to know Pope wasted so much money and brought in an inferior, non championship team. Argue how much he spent but the bottom line is his team will end the season with FOURTEEN losses. We deserve to be ripped by the press for letting the amount be made public. Next year keep it to yourself Pope. The rest of the coaches do.
