Dear God that would have been a terrible plan. Alvarez was gassing at 149
If Alvarez were to wrestle, there was nowhere else for him to go with Block at 149 and Willams at 157. It was always a Hail Mary hoping for the medical, but, much like Arnold, he would rather wrestle any weight than none at all…

If Alvarez got eligibility he was going 141 and Bailey was gonna RS for sure. Not sure what the argument is about and I'm not gonna go read all the BS but that was gonna happen

So a guy who committed 6 weeks later, was a long shot to qualify, and was going to cut down a weight was the plan all along. How dumb do you and MSU think people are? 😂

Yeah a 2025 all-American at 149 wouldn’t have been able to beat out…Ryder Block?

lol…make it stop.

You don’t go through the process to bring in a guy for one year to MAYBE beat out a guy you really like when you have a weight right next to it that is a hole. Come on, don’t be this obtuse. I know it is your calling card as literally the most stubborn guy on the Internet. And that says a lot coming from one as stubborn as me…

You really like the word "obtuse".

So, in other words, you’re not going to show proof of your claim about it being the “original plan.”

Got it.

If Bailey was going to / wanted to..whatever..RS . he should have RS regardless of who they had at 41. Only Brands had to believe having Bailey in the line up this year really meant anything in the end.

A quick review of the top tiered wrestling program season ticket costs this season :

Iowa $175

An OSU $183

PSU $245

Okla state $300

Iowa is still significantly cheaper than other programs but doesn’t sell out and the tickets that are sold don’t come to the matches. Keep reaching.
The fact all of Iowa's home meets this season were on Fridays (with one Thursday) hurts attendance.

Friday nights (and Thursday for that matter) are actually better for me as the weekends as always packed full of kids/family activities.

I'm guessing you are in the minority.
Unless they are close to Iowa City, Iowa high school wrestlers and coaches cannot attend on Fridays and I would say none can attend on a Thursday during season.
And it's pretty dang tough to make a Friday work for fans who have a longer drive.
Thursday and Friday meets definitely do not help attendance.

I live 2 1/2 hours from Carver and without taking work off on Friday I can't make it to weeknight duals. Can't imagine I am the only one in this predicament.

I'm closer to 3 1/2 hours away and a high school coach. I've had season tickets for a long time and realize as a coach I won't be able to make them all. On the ones I knew I couldn't make I liked giving the tickets to a family with a young wrestler(s). Nothing like the atmosphere at Carver to get kids pumped about wrestling. It was harder this year, not because people didn't want to watch the Hawks wrestle but because of the travel distance on a Friday.

Blame the day the meets were on all you like but your heads buried in the sand if you think the product on the mat wasn’t the biggest reason attendance was down. Who the hell wants to even drive across town to watch 7 matches go 3-1 and half the backups wrestling. Get real with yourself man.

Sounds like taking a couple hours off work to watch the Hawks isn’t worth it to you and that is OK.
Everyone has their priorities.

This is true I guess. I was more apt to do this when the program was flourishing and there was a lot of excitement around Iowa wrestling. I still love the Hawks, but the team as a whole just doesn't have that same excitement currently, which sucks. MC and Drake will be huuuge holes to fill next year in more ways than one.

Sounds like you just confirmed Tillman’s observation from above and my thoughts as well in regard to the lack of overall attendance.

Enjoy the National tournament- that is the last collegiate wrestling we will have for a while.

The Thursday against Ballermine definitely hurt attendance. A bunch of Friday night duals did not. Losing to MN most definitely impacted attendance for the um dual.

NOBODY missed a Friday night dual when Spencer was here!

If we had PSU lineup, there would be no issue with 5 Friday night duals. They had no problem packing their arena. Our product is stale, THAT impacts attendance far more than the date.

I had to miss Friday night duals when Spencer wrestled, and I know other guys who had to miss also.
So, you can't truthfully say NOBODY missed.
I understand the product on the mat matters, but for me personally I go and support Hawkeye wrestling no matter who they have beat and who they haven't.
The only thing that stops myself and some others I know from attending is if the schedule conflicts with our high school coaching responsibilities.

Sometimes it isn't about priorities. I have a 3.5-4 hour drive. Taking a Friday afternoon off multiple times in a few months just isn't feasible. Friday afternoons are by far the hardest time to take off due to other co-workers also requesting those days. Add in that my family members also have to try to take that time off or make the long drive alone reduces the chances of us making a Friday night meet. Granted that may not be the case for a lot of fans, but definitely played a part in how many meets we were able to attend this year.

"literally"?? Obviously an exaggeration for effect, always easily spotted. I'm suprised you're one of those people in the world that misuse that word, using it as an inaccurate modifier. Rather than it's literal meaning.

It is used perfectly. There is no exaggeration as it is a 100% accurate modifier. Spooner is LITERALLY the most stubborn person on the internet. You can argue otherwise, but everyone here knows it to be true!

But, hey, thank you for digging hard to come at me for "misusing a word". Normally I don't nitpick, but it may not be the best timing to misspell suRprised when attacking some for specific word usage!

Once again.. you can't seem to admit when you are literally incorrect. Spooner is "LITERALLY " the most stubborn guy on the internet?? You actually typed that as fact?? You've never said anything dumber and more wrong. How can I prove that?? Cause YOU are on the internet 🤣 Now go ahead and prove he is "literally" the most stubborn guy on the internet. I'll wait for the literal proof. 😆

You answered your own question. I am LITERALLY 100% correct, BECAUSE I am on the Internet. Get with it or go home!

You are indeed on the internet. Which proves me 100% correct... thereby making your statement of Spooner being "literally" the most stubborn person on the internet completely incorrect... because that would be you as the most stubborn person on the internet. But again... since that statement of mine cannot ever be proven as fact, or literal, it is my opinion. Just like your statement about Spooner being the most stubborn person on the internet was your opinion, not a literal fact like you tried to sell. Which is why you used the word "literally" incorrectly. I'm surprised you are having such a hard time grasping such an easy concept. I'll dumb it down for you even more...if that's even possible, if that will help you with your struggle with word comprehension. I really am trying to help you out of the embarassing hole you are digging yourself into. 🫡

Misspelling words while trying to get someone on the minutiae of word usage on the Internet. Priceless!

In case you were unaware, there is another misspelled word in the above post as well! Can you find it?
