He has been here along time and is a respected member of this board. He was known for being a very positive poster, but even the most positive person can get frustrated with how this season had turned out. I guess you are a glass half full kind of guy and I respect that but right now the glasses is pretty cracked.
Precciate that. I wan UK to win and be the gold standard. I have no loyalties to coaches or players. I bleed blue for UK sports.

Said it before, even Coach K didn't win a single NCAAT game until his 4th season at Duke and look what he became. Dude was trash for 3 seasons.
Coach K, Hurley, Golden, none of these guys were given $20-something million to buy a roster. This is probably the most expensive roster in all of college basketball so far in this NIL era and we’re 18-11 and looking at a possible 10th place finish in the SEC. C’mon. For every Coach K there are dozens of Billy Gs.

I've noticed countless road games we have played in half-empty arenas (A&M, SC, LSU). Whenever were rolling, every arena is full. It's like the schools that don't care about basketball don't see us as some supreme titan anymore.

Nope its Indiana and UCLA. Two “Blue Bloods” that haven't won titles since 1987 and 1995 respectively.

UK has 3 titles since IU or UCLA have won one.
Back away from the ledge OP.

I get the NIL debate, but those coaches had people from 2 to 4 years and they became a cohesive team. Within NIL, you can buy players, but you can't necessarily buy a team. I'm not justifying Pope. I'm just saying a lot of coaches go through growing pains when they first take over a program. However, the huge endgame lapses that we have at this time of the season should never happen

Agree you can't compare the different eras with NIL. Plus we canned BCG after 2 years. Yes he had other issues but if he was drinking, chasing skirts but winning at a high level he would of still been the coach. Him and Pope have almost identical records after 2 years.

I don’t see why this has to be explained to so many people.

UK fans see Sweet 16 and NCAA appearance as some kind of huge failure worthy of a firing a public stoning. Coaching circles won’t see it like that.

To fire Pope right now would send a message to other coaches that fam expectations mean you have to achieve unreasonable levels of success every single year when historically it’s rarely actually been that way.

By giving him a year 3, it shows we’re willing to give a mulligan AND gives him both the opportunity to get it right and the opportunity to prove beyond a reasonable doubt he is not the guy for the job.
He's getting year three. The angry mob isn't getting what they want so they can cry about it and throw themselves on the ground all they want. Laughing stock? How arrogant. Every rival fan I know is jealous of us no matter what our record is. We've had more to enjoy than most of them could ever dream of. Sillyness.

Has nothing to do with being a former player. He made a sweet 16 in his first season with a roster pieced together last minute. He’s gonna make the tournament this year. He’s suffered devastating injuries both years. I’m leaning toward he doesn’t have the goods. But you don’t fire the guy I described above short of some type of scandal. He will be given the chance to learn from this seasons mistakes and make the necessary changes. With himself, his staff and the players he chooses. As he should. We will just have to be patient and see what he does. If he fails we move on.
You sure as hell can fire that guy. Nothing in Pope’s background suggests that some big turnaround is right around the corner. It’s going to be more of the same.

Pope is exactly the coach that UK hired. Someone capable of a big victory or two, then suffer inexplicable losses. When you know you don’t have the guy you move on. And Pope isn’t the guy.

Let’s say Pope gets another crucial year. He know it’s make or break. What happens if he finished 5th in the SEC and then makes a sweet 16, then what do you do?

By Pope being overly concerned about his team’s “fatigue”, because they were about to start to break a sweat, while Bucky’s team was busting their *** for him for 40 minutes straight!

Both teams are a reflection of their coach, and that tells you everything you need to know about Pope being a fit at UK.
That was something that worried me coming into the game. The Aggies arr an undersized bunch, but they play hard for McMillan, and they are tough and will get in your six and stuck to it like glue. They grab, hold and bang all night, but if the refs are letting them play, they are a tough matchup for a finesse team, which is sadly what we are

Its by far a talent issue before it's a coaching issue with pope

also when you say "It didn't work with Cal after 2012" do u mean that those seasons after 2012 were failures?

crazy
Yes, when you have a Ferrari at the street light and can't ever win a street race.....maybe it's the driver. Crazy concept

They don’t…they also don’t see bama as a so-called titan in football. Adapt or expire. UConn is possibly winning its 7th natty…everyone since the 90s. That is elite.

No I see us saying he needs to go. But the same ones including myself act like year three is the only option. Like no way he can get fired. This is what happens when you let a former player be the coach.
Again I don’t see that. I see people saying he will get a third year but most (myself included) are clearly stating they do not agree. You aren’t the first to make these revelations and certainly won’t be the last.

The same UCONN that lost to an 11-19 team today while their little bich of a coach pushed a ref at the end because it all has to go his way or he turns the entire checkerboard game over? hahaha

What a difficult time to be a Kentucky basketball fan…just sucks to keep losing at home…even worse when you know it’s coming.

Our coach unfortunately is in over his head. If he wasn't a former player would anyone be defending him? If this was in the real world would any business retain him as their ceo?

I’m afraid it’s worse than a laughing stock… it’s ambivalence and irrelevance boys. Headed for the lowest level of respect in my 64 years
