Mitch will be the first executive-in-residence of the UK Sport and Workforce Initiative”

Administratium will literally make up jobs to steal money. You cannot convince me this is a necessary position.
Need a new crew of vultures to run Mitch off.

we should be so lucky, the lack of knowledge about the AD role on this board or Mitch's actually success is astounding- yea yea I know... Billy, Pope, cant hire, no NIL, blah blah...
You must be a partner. 24 yrs is waaay past time for a new AD. If he does indeed stay on as a special advisor type role, that's my confirmation he's getting kickbacks.

Check my previous posts. I said he would retire effective June 2026. I expect them to name his replacement at that time as well.

Only thing sour about this ordeal is Mitch keeping a position within the administration. 24 yrs is long enough. Just retire and let others have an opportunity.

I thought he was scheduled to step down in June anyway. So it will just be sooner, like next week?
June was the target date all along. I still expect June to be when his replacement is named. Need him cut ties completely. I hope there's push back over the supposed position Mitch would transfer to. Unnecessary spending and further proof of a GOLDEN PARACHUTE. These administrators thrive on kickbacks and funneling money.

If Mitch couldn't do to UK athletics what he did with the resources given in the time of exponential financial growth in the SEC, then he'd be near mentally disabled. Any AD with a pulse could've "shepherded" that growth. The SEC printed money for their athletic programs in Mitch's 25 years.

Now the question becomes what does UK do now. Do they promote Marc Hill? Do they do a big job search? Will Dr Capilouto make the hire or will it be by committee? Dr Capilouto is 76 years old, how much longer will he be around.
Clean house. Get rid of the old (literally) regime. Hire the best available candidate with forward think and fresh ideas.

This will be crucial to the future success of UK basketball.

I really hope we get someone that isn't afraid to embrace NIL and play by the same rules as every other college--instead of this "We better be extra safe, just in case" mentality Mitch has handicapped us with.

So then how is it JMIs fault? Stein didn't seem to have a lot of issues getting JMI to make deals for FB players.
The football vs basketball thing has been explained many times. I think it is a combination of Pope and the JMI deal, as was reported by a few recruits families.

-Calipari lifetime contract
-Stoop's contract
-Swim team scandal
-Joker Phillips
-BCG
-Mark Pope
-JMI
-Dragging feet when NIL first started
-Destroying our logos and uniforms/brand, not just for basketball, either.

I mean hey, the rifle team was good, and Volleyball got a title. And IIRC, women's basketball was pretty good, I guess.
This‼️ He's done far more harm than good. Good riddance to this weight around UK Athletics' neck.

Next up: GTFO Sleepy Eli Capilouto.

(One caveat on my reaction: still undecided on Pope.)

Dude lol... I can't tell if you're serious saying he is one of the best ADs in the country then next paragraph pointing out why he has been horrible lol. Nice troll job

Others seem to be backhand slapping mitch as well.

That said.

I actually think Mitch has been awesome .... nobody knew Billy had an alcohol problem and he had just beat pitino in the tournament so that was a good hire...

And we all know Cal was going to leave Camelot where he was getting highest pay for UCLA where they sell out every game like us...so the lifetime deal was crucial.

Joker Phillips hire was a good risk to reward...no head coach experience but we probably didnt pay him much and he played for us.

Similar Mark Pope hire, he wasn't a big name and resume lacking but I dont think we are paying him much either, so its a good deal.
Point out the lie in my post. I said specifically that multiple things can be true at once.

Why? You probably think Trent Noah should start too. Plenty of well qualified people with zero connection to Kentucky.

We already hired Pope just because he played here and so far that’s been far from a home run.

I don’t want our coaches to be former players or Kentuckians unless they are absolutely elite. Being AD and president for that matter should be Kentuckians. Period! I don’t trust outsiders to value our bb program. I don’t trust outsiders to put the state first. That means we need a charismatic Kentuckian to run the show. This isn’t brain surgery. If your AD is an outsider they will never work to our standard but if the AD is a blue blooded Uk fans we can always trust the new ad to put our interests as Kentuckians and fans first. I think hiring Barney was a terrible mistake for that reason alone. He never made a UK first hire not for our major programs. It was a Barney ego hire first. A good le boy hire or someone who will bend the knee to Barney. Barney’s quarter century was worse than the first 25 years of my life. I’m in my 50s and stoops and curci cancel out. Brooks imo was ho hum. We had a nice season but he was all about joker being head coach. Basketball though the first half my life won 4 titles the second half with Barney 1 title 3 tourney misses the worst season in over 100 years. And the money? Post 9/11 dollars have been flowing everywhere. A bum off the street would have made a ton of money in this millennia. Barney was a total bean counter with a massive ego. He had zero sales skills which necessary to land a top notch coach. He lacks a sense of urgency. He lacks a winning mentality. The guy has used his religion to try and win Kentuckians over he’s been so patronizing. I’m pissed this guy was ever here. Bottomline you don’t need a president from Alabama who is an Alabama alum and a clown from Oregon. It’s become a disaster for our bb program bringing people in who are trying to pad their resume. Hire a local we have 4-5 million people. There is a lot of talent in Kentucky. Stop this good ole boy outsider crap and give our school back to Kentuckians and those whose families unite for Uk basketball. I mean Lexington used to be the capital of cbb prior to Barney. Let’s bring it back home.

Hopefully this time around UK doesn’t shoot itself in the foot by hiring someone just because they are from Kentucky. They need to hire the person best suited to fix things and move UK’s athletics into the new era. The best person may not have ever been associated with UK before but long as he does a great job who cares.

He hired a coach that most likely no other top program would have ever considered. Name me one top job that Mark Pope was in the running for before the hire.

Much like Cal, Mitch did a lot of good at UK but the time is right for him to depart.
This is spot on for me as well

Stoops...good hire...bad last contract
Cal...good hire (even if Pratt did it)...bad last contract

GIllespie...wth
Joker....I was on board with coach in waiting thing...but he was a dud
Pope is trending to wth
Tubby extension....dumb idea that we got lucky he left

Stein...we'll see

NIL....feels like he's not been a help as much as a hurt

All the womens sports, baseball, etc...I jsut don't see how it matters to many that much

Mitch was given resources that no other AD before him ever had and did less with more than them all. He wasn’t a good AD, he was a guy that put his own value system ahead of what it takes and the SEC is no place for that kind of thing.

Mitch wanted 2 more years and he didn’t get it. It got too hot. Which is exactly what I was hoping. He tried to curve it with the Stein hire which he would have never made unless he had to.

guy has butchered the cash cow of a university that is not allowed and that’s what his legacy is. He tried to destroy basketball to spread wealth around and that should be a fireable offense here immediately. He did NOT hire Calipari that is a fact. If Mitch had his way, we would likely have ZERO FF and ZERO NC at Kentucky since 1998. No, he was a sht AD and a worse guy to deal with.

Something else he did, which is clever, was to throw more money into meaningless sports than anyone else so he could look good where it’s not competitive. Because he doesn’t know how to win at the big table, and a few buy into this it’s hilarious. Nobody cares about those sports so he built his resume on winning there. Like I said clever, but no cigar. This university needs to protect that basketball program or I’d fire them immediately and a precedent would be set.

"Mitch Barnhart to continue being paid like a damned pirate and make the athletic department unhealthy for anyone willing to take on his former role."

This would be as useful as hiring a new coach but keeping Calipari on staff as their boss. No one will take the role unless they are friends with Mitch. They would be stupid to do so.
