Does Pope deserve credit for the ascension and development of Moreno, Aberdeen, Oweh, and Chandler?

Oweh- went from a third/fourth option at Oklahoma to a second team all sec player

Aberdeen- went from a bench piece to one of the best point guards playing right now in the SEC

Moreno- went from a skeptical freshman to maybe one of the best freshman centers in the country

Chandler- went from a guy who got sparing minutes to a player who has shot the ball better than Brea

Development is part of good coaching!! In fact, I think it’s just as important as recruiting.. ask Cignetti.

Doesn't every team have players who become better than they were before? I'm not sure this proves anything about Pope's player development. Especially when guys like Garrison and Noah have gotten worse.
Noah is horrendous

Sure he does. I slam him for his sub patterns ; it won't hurt me giving him credit for something.

I mean.. not everybody does. Look at Haggerty at Kansas state. That is true about Garrison. I can’t figure that out. I think all of BBN can’t figure that out. But I was just talking about those 4 guys.

when you lose 35% of your games, are a middle of the pack conference team, have to prey for a good draw in the tournament to have hope for a "run", are unranked for all but 4 weeks in the season......you have to talk about player development.

I was watching the 96 championship run today and realized how much Pitino subbed guys in and out all the time. It was actually pretty funny to watch. Though that team was wayyy more loaded with talent, I think Pope tries to imitate the way Pitino subbed guys all the time. To start the year, he thought he had the horses and was deep like that 96 year. Unfortunately he didn’t and had to greatly shorten his rotation. I encourage you to watch that 96 team to see Pitinos sub patterns. Also one of my favorite things to do in March is watch the greet teams of the past.

No. They have not improved skill wise. Many people think Oweh has regressed. I think he's the same guy that here before last season.

Moreno was a McDonald's AA. And you cannot point to even one skill gained since he got here. Sure he's older and more mature. That would happen anywhere. But new skills?

Chandler is the same as last year. Can't handle. Rarely drives the ball. Not a good defender. Shooting? Of course. His calling card out of high school was shooting. That's how he got a scholarship.

Pope's number weakness is a lack of developing players and that's driving his recruiting non success.

It's a night and day difference to watch a Cignetti coached team and a Pope coached team. Cignetti's teams are well coached, prepared, disciplined and in condition to play. Pope's teams are none of that.

Oh, I'm old my friend; I already watched it. If he had that kind of talent in his depth I'd have never said a word. I even liked the platoon team(though I didn't agree with the minute distribution lol).

Pope will be here for a long time, have many successes and anyone that doesn't enjoy the life-long ride that is Kentucky basketball is just a bitter beer face.

Of course he deserves credit. Who else ya gonna give it to? I mean...damn man! Ya'll can be a bunch of grumpy old women at times but seriously, who else ya gonna credit? Pope is a good coach. Accept it. We coulda done a lot worse. Next year's class is yet to be seen and none of ya'll know who's coming back or any more about who we sign than I do...or my dead grandma, for that matter. Just WOW!

Yes, we need better results than we had year 1 and even though we're playing decently well right now in year two, we're not where any of us want to be yet. But here it comes...Name another coach with the same injury problems we've had for two straight years. Go ahead...Name em.

Of course he does, he recruited them, and they are getting better. I hope like hell they are all americans before they leave. Don't laugh, Oweh will be this year, Moreno next year, and Chandler maybe next year and his senior year. Aberdeen probably not.
My hope anyway 😁

Yes, he does. Like others have said he gets the blame when we get blown out by teams, can't recruit, and can't be a top seed in the SEC tournament or NCAA tournament. Now tell me which side out weighs the other?

You're wrong. Pope deserves credit for handing them rope.

I don't at all think he thought he had another '96 team. Crazy he is, dumb he is not. He did think he had a Ferrari, though, as in a much better team than last year.

Absolutely Pope gets some credit to me.... but why did this team play such lifeless defense and lose to Auburn and UGA....Mizzou was a mess. Same last year....he does get some offensive scheme credit but this team should not be getting down 15+ pts so often by coming into games with no intensity, focus and defensive effort.

How do you explain the bigs seemingly having no skills around the rim on either side of the ball? Moreno maybe a little but nothing from BG, MO, or Jelly. They have NO offensive moves! This can only happening if it’s NOT being worked on in practice. How is that possible at this level?

I think he is very good with scoring guards and wings. He hasn’t really made his big men all that much better like BG, but that could be player dependent because Moreno has gotten a lot better. I’d definitely like or to see what he could do with an elite roster and player.
