Sonny Amato was interviewed on a NJ wrestling podcast yesterday , in the interview he talks about why he committed to Iowa . Mentioned he’s friends with Ferrari for years and first time he stepped into the Iowa room with Angelo Terry walked right up without saying a word and grabbed a 2 on 1 on him and told Amato to tell him how he would defend this. He’s a big Morningstar guy.

Amato interview starts at 46:25 and ends at 1:05:15

also don’t judge NJ by these clowns with the podcast, most of NJ can’t stand most of them

I thought you said he's gonna have a hard time staying in school? Now you like him?

Literally just sharing an interview most people in Iowa would never see or come across. We ve been over this Corby I think he can be very very good but he has some personality/ character red flags. I didn’t want Rutgers to go after him bc we only land elite recruits once every 5 years and felt like it was too big of a risk to focus that energy on him and I think it’ll be easier to keep his focus solely on wrestling in a place like Iowa then at Rutgers

Excited and nervous. Talent to be a 4x AA and compete for a national title right away but he also might knock a dude out on the campus.Im hoping the whole brawl at districts and year of court appearances scared him straight.

I view Knox and Amato as slightly different recruits i think Knox is the top tier ,compete for a title right away type recruits like Bo,Jax, ( I also view Paul Kenny in this category). I think Amato can AA 4x but I’m not sure hes a national champ level recruit and if he is i think it happens when he’s a jr/sr and not right away

Calkins having a strong finish to his hs career. Believe the guy he just beat is #8 at 215. Calkins also beat Willie's #5 recently. His finals will be a rematch of Doc B. Calkins lost 5-8 in that one. Willie has his opp #4 at the weight.
Flo has his next opponent, Burford #3 one spot ahead of Calkins. Hope proper adjustments were made & he can win this rematch & get himself a state title. I hate the 215lb class because these guys usually have no place in college because they cant get big enough for Hwt or get down to 197

Yeah, he’s pretty shredded at 215, I can’t see him cutting to 197. Don’t think there’s enough to cut. Could be like a 230-240 heavyweight like Kueter and Mirasola.

Maybe we should recruit that kid haha!
One kid I've really been impressed with watching the California tournament is James Curoso. I believe he's just a sophomore but he's in the championship at 165 where he'll meet returning champ & Stanford commit, Shahbazyan. Would love to see Curoso in a Hawkeye singlet & at a weight of need

Sorry if already posted but Jarrell Miller is the #1 184 in NJCAA. The championship is next week.
So is he taking the Junior college route for eligibility? or is this something that he actually desired?

I was excited when we landed the twins.

Mocco with another pin to capture his Region Title!

Joe Bachmann with another tech to capture his Region Title!

Freddy Bachmann wins his Region Title with a 3-2 win in ultimate tie breaker to C. Chunko. He any good?

(Peter Mocco also wins his 215 Region Title with 4 pins as a sophomore)
Rutgers commit and 19th at 126 per Willie.

That is very impressive to do as a 165 pound sophomore in single classification California. There are over 1000 high schools in CA that have a boys wrestling program. Curoso wrestles for Clovis High. The city of Clovis is a hotbed of wrestling in California. Nationally, #1 ranked Buchanan is there along with #12 Clovis and #13 Clovis North.
