I’m not sure why this has to be repeated over and over. Cal wasn’t fired here. In fact he had just had a sit down interview along with Mitch where it was assumed he was staying. He walked out. Probably because he couldn’t believe any fan would dare question him. And he left the cupboard completely bare.

At this point UK needs to stay on the chase. Force Kansas to pony up. If Stokes doesn't want to come here, fine, but maybe another team will pay his price who won't be a threat
I’m heavily suspecting Kansas is going to end up paying him less than what we’re offering with the way articles and insiders are wording the situation. Which would be extremely sad for our program.

I think someone was dropped as a baby because the coach gets the players so any coach that doesnt have the players to win, cant be the coach to win either

assistants can get the door open for the head coach but its always up to the head coach to seal the deal and must be a good recruiter himself to do so. That is obviously not Pope

Pope can only win being Pope. That’s what many don’t get. This year he tried to do it another way and failed. Popes system likely won’t work in the SEC that’s the cold hard truth. He tried to adapt to the SEC and get some defensive stoppers and SEC types and it flopped. They don’t listen to him and he doesn’t know how to coach that. Pope must go back to what he does well, but what he does well im afraid doesn’t translate well to the SEC. It’s a catch 22. It would do well in the mountain west, AAC, smaller conferences or maybe an ACC school like Notre Dame or something. Kentucky is for the best who are killers. Everyone is out to kill you in the conference. Coaches are undermining you they don’t want UK awake. This isn’t for Pope. And I think he already knows it.
He knows it but he won't walk away because he wants the money. For all that talk about what's on the front of the jersey he is here for the signature on the check.

Good enough. That’s all I need to hear. Upon hearing that comment from him, I would pull the offer immediately if he truly said that, and pick a couple 4 stars and be happy, saving money. I absolutely don’t want him here if he truly said I don’t want to go to KY. I want a guy that’s happy to be here, because this is a special place. No matter who our coach is, we can’t let a recruit say something like this and still beg him to come with a multi million dollar offer.

Pope’s gone head to head with Fla. 3 close games.
If I remember beat him in a shootout at Rupp last season and lost in ot.
Time will tell.
You play enough games with a 22M roster you are going to beat some good teams. You should expect that. What you shouldn't expect is a 500 mediocre record against power 5 teams and several very humiliating losses. Most of the issues stem from lack of talent. Ask yourself how many of our starters would start on Florida, Arkansas, Alabama, Michigan, Duke Arizona, UCONN, Houston, etc.

If you think he isn't a different coach than he was here you don't watch a lot of other teams. He is doing a much better job building that program than the direction we are heading. Sure would be nice to Acuff.
I said he’s getting good players like he always did and is back to staying out of their way. Which is what brought him the most success in the early years. He tried to prove he could strategize in the later years and got his *** beat in 60-58 rock fights with superior talent.

Assuming this story is true...We obviously need high level talent, but I'm not sure we need a guy who doesn't want to be here. Sounds like the perfect scenario that would result in a guy taking money and deciding not to play. Of course that would never happen to us.
Absolutely this. If he doesn’t want to be here just move on. And, since he was publicly saying he doesn’t want to come to KY (if he definitely did say this), I would publicly take that option off the table for him. That’s just my thoughts.

Everytime a respected coach leaves a program almost all the people that were coming in follow them. Recruits signup to play for a coach not really for a university. The only kid that signed for the university stayed. Perry. Several kids on the team got drafted or were seniors, The incoming people either followed cal or went some where entirely. Pope had the chance to speak to them but as usual couldn't close them on Kentucky. So you see the COACH matters.

I keep telling people you can't hide the head coach in recruiting.

Cal was done here. Get over it. Pope may not succeed. If not we’ll go find a better guy.

They should pull the offer but it is still a shame he doesn't believe in Pope

Tell him the offer is x and say take it by this weekend or remove us from your list. Do not be held hostage by someone that really doesn’t want to be here.
Correct, don’t let one recruit hold this program hostage. It would look much better to pull the offer publicly, and would serve us better for future recruits using us to leverage other offers. I would for sure pull the offer if the kid said he doesn’t want to go to KY.

He lost when he quit getting elite talent. He had some bad luck with top tier guys like missing on Cade and James Wiseman. Then he went through that Wheeler phase that sucked. The problem now is he is going to kill it because he can give money and people want to play for him. In the meantime we will have to scramble for scraps. It sucks to be us.

I mean i guess we’ll see. They were meh last year and not a title threat this year. I sure don’t want him back.

I could get on board with this if ANY top talent wanted to play for Pope, but we haven't seen that yet.
Doesn’t matter man. We must pull his offer if he said this, no matter who the coach is.
That being said, Barney has absolutely killed us between his hires and JMI

I don’t think anyone knows the truth, but all I know is this:
If he truly does not want to come here even for more money then he and his sunglasses can go to a beach in Antarctica as far as I’m concerned.
Can’t let somebody like this come in and put the whole program in jail.
Agree 100%

Cal lost to Oakland with 2 top ten draft picks. That he refused to start by the way. Yeah he was killing it.
They played way more minutes than Pope would have played with his weird substitution patterns and 12 man playing rosters. We lost that game and several that year because Cal wasn't given help he needed from Mitch to secure the money needed to get Hunter Dickenson. Had Mitch got him the money we would have been in final four and probably had a good chance to win it. But Mitch failed us again but we still won enough games to be a 2 seed which is light years ahead of where we are now 22M later.

Then lets agree the time is now and quit with all the BS Pope knows what he doing crap
I’ve said for awhile I think it might be best for all parties if he stepped down. But he’s not getting fired. His first year was too good. And like it or not there are injury excuses both years. I’m in he needs to make drastic changes in a lot of areas mode, or next year is his last. We survived the death penalty. We will be back with or without him. All I can do is root for him till then. . And I am until he’s not here.

So no excuses for Pope but plenty for Cal losing to Oakland is the way I read that.

They happened so much with the later Cal, you might say they weren’t a fluke. Just maybe it was a guy who didn’t give a **** about doing the most important part of his job.
yes but it was kinda different, i wouldnt really call it a fluke if the other team played better than us, the oakland game was the jack gholke show he couldnt miss

No excuses for that game. Should have won no matter what. But we really had a great opportunity to do something special and all Cal needed was an experienced big man that we had in our grasps that Mitch screwed up, You don't get many bites at the apple and we were a very dangerous team with a 17pt 10reb guy that could pick and pop instead of Arron Bradshaw who is still terrible. These are the facts!

Cal ain't getting beat by 40 in Nashville by a Gonzaga team or 25 by Vanderbilt

Money talks.

Even if he doesn’t get the deal he wants out of Kansas and comes to UK, he didn’t choose any other school. He could go to any of the other division 1 teams. It’s not like Kansas and UK are the only two choices. UK must have some appeal if it’s one of two schools presumably in the running.
I disagree. I feel like he’s only using KY because it’s widely known that we have money to spend. He’s leveraging KY to get as much as possible at KU, with no intention of really coming here. That’s how I view this anyway.

If the article is true it seems like Stokes knows the money is there at UK if he wants it.
If true doesn't this contradict the notion that JMI has UK handcuffed in high profile recruitments.
