If Kentucky keeps sucking, there’ll be many more folks who decide to no longer watch. No one wants to watch a once great program fight for a 10th place finish in the freaking SEC of all places. This isn’t football. If the fans go then Kentucky is done. Adults won’t watch, kids won’t watch or grow up to become UK fans. Hell many of them might end up Louisville or Indiana fans for Christ’s sake.

Kentucky will never recover if it loses their fanbase.
Well.....Bye....

Who else could it be a bad reflection on when the number 1 recruit who is also from ky prefers not to play for ky after visiting here with our coaching staff.
Maybe his dad(being from Kentucky) reads Rupp Rafters and said thanks but no thanks to whatever happened to half this fanbase

he doesnt need to follow that formula

pope obviously needs more help to win, just as cal did
Golden hadn’t won an ncaa tournament game till last year. He wasn’t great until he was. You just never can be sure. You’re sure about everything. Ahh. Life was so much simpler when I was 19.

Todd Golden improved his record and SEC standing every year he was here. Meanwhile Pope is going to go from 6th to 9th-10th.

Random to a degree? Sure. Losing NCAA games to Oakland, St Peter’s, K State(twice), missing the tournament altogether all in his last several seasons might lead someone to believe he’s lost his fastball. Which was always only about acquiring the best talent and not completely ******* it up. He lost the ability to not **** it up.

"up. He lost the ability to not **** it up."

Happens. bad stretches happen, he made a s16 last year and upgraded this year, thats how a program is supposed to work

not go backwards and blow out tires left and right like we are

Popes getting a 3rd year. Would I cry if he decided to step aside? Nope. In fact I think it could be best for him and his family. But I’m not gonna wail and gnash my teeth over him getting more than 2 years to prove himself. I’ll be rooting for him.

Yeah. He seems to have reverted back to just rolling the ball out and not even attempting to coach. Letting his talented guys play. Believe me, he only makes things worse when he tries to prove he can coach. Believe it or not he walked out on Kentucky. And left the program in shambles. As he always does. Thars what’s so funny about lunatics like you saying Popes going backwards. From what? We literally had 1 player(Perry) when Pope signed on. I won’t be cheering for Cal or them. But you do you.

We saw how that worked with Stoops and Joker getting “another chance”. Another year of Pope and Kentucky might never recover. We sure as heck won’t be #1 in all-time wins this time next year.

We’re Kentucky Basketball . The best fan base in the game. We recovered from the death penalty. We’ll be ok in the future Pope or somebody else.

Florida won it last year without 5* freshmen. Just a good well balanced roster that fit.

CMP needs to do the same. Get some experienced guys that he relates to and vice versa. Don’t focus on the me guys with their hand out. Get your type guys.
Florida had one of the best players in college basketball last year and he is the reason they won it all.

Is this like the fifth thread with the same news? I’m starting to believe this news was put out by UK people so when he chooses Kansas we won’t go crazy for losing not only the #1 player in America who’s from Kentucky. But also the other guard Kansas signed from Kentucky.

When he signs with Kansas it will be we didn’t want a player that didn’t want to play for Kentucky anyway.. instead of us giving Pope more 💩 for being a terrible recruiter.

They really didn’t last year. This year, yeah slightly better. Although in league play with the unbalanced schedule they got LSU twice and Mizzou twice. We got Tenn and Florida. They also have been pretty injury free. We haven’t. Either year.

eh, they have a final 4 caliber roster, we dont

they are equipped to win, we have the coach to win, but not the players to win

I can believe that because even tho Pope is a UK guy and won a championship here he isn’t a UK guy like Stein. I do believe Stein is about to have support even more than Mark Stoops could dream of. Hopefully he does some good things with the support.

Mark Pope just had his chance with all that support and squandered it. Unless we make some miracle run in the tournament.
And stein I’m willing to belated if it looks like it’s heading in the right direction. Football is different and if he looks to be trending right it could take 2-4 years before he’s rolling. Obviously if he comes out and bombs away, 1-12 back to back type crap then no. But I don’t think that’s going to happen. I think the boosters forced a good hire there. Mitch would have gone retreat this isn’t him. He’s never go young and innovative.

I expect about 6 wins his first year. Steady getting better each year. By year 4 I can see him winning 9-10 games and being in playoff conversations if the hype matches

Pope can only win being Pope. That’s what many don’t get. This year he tried to do it another way and failed. Popes system likely won’t work in the SEC that’s the cold hard truth. He tried to adapt to the SEC and get some defensive stoppers and SEC types and it flopped. They don’t listen to him and he doesn’t know how to coach that. Pope must go back to what he does well, but what he does well im afraid doesn’t translate well to the SEC. It’s a catch 22. It would do well in the mountain west, AAC, smaller conferences or maybe an ACC school like Notre Dame or something. Kentucky is for the best who are killers. Everyone is out to kill you in the conference. Coaches are undermining you they don’t want UK awake. This isn’t for Pope. And I think he already knows it.

So we hired a one dimensional coach that can’t recruit. At this point it’s exhausting.

Pope’s gone head to head with Fla. 3 close games.
If I remember beat him in a shootout at Rupp last season and lost in ot.
Time will tell.

I will never agree to paying millions to get players. Cal started all this pay for likeness. It has never been about likeness, its about the money and agents. I will watch the product we put on the floor and remember the days they played for the name on the front of the jersey. Those days are gone forever and the days of spoiled brats has arrived.
Many tried to say you don’t want the NCAA destroyed because this is what would happen. But people let the wealthy and the grievance lobby convince them the people protecting the game itself are the bad guy and we need to “let’m sign auto’s for cash”. It’s still hard to believe so many fell for that. This was always just a grievance play to obtain the money. College is education, go pro somewhere if you don’t like it. I still disagree fully with the NCAA decision. Just don’t play if you don’t like the rules nobody is stopping you. I’ve never heard a good argument to that. Never.

but we have to now do what we have to do. Program must be protected.

Doesn’t fit for Pope. 2 tournament wins in going on 12 years. 63% winning percentage. Take our cupcakes, he’s closer to a .500 guy against team with a pulse. At Kentucky, well what do we know. Going on year 3, and he’s at exactly 63% winning percentage. So Golden and Pope are not comparable at all, that much is certain.

At this point UK needs to stay on the chase. Force Kansas to pony up. If Stokes doesn't want to come here, fine, but maybe another team will pay his price who won't be a threat

Again Pope’s issue isn’t beating some good teams here and there. Facts. He cannot sustain it. He never has. We have the sample size, it says he can win some good games but he’s going to lose just as many. Beat florida, lose to Georgia, win 7 straight? Lose next 4 of 5. Beat @kansas, drop 2. .

63% winning percentage going on 12 years. And he’s entering year 3 at UK. Take a guess? 63% winning percentage. Take the cupcakes away it gets a lot worse. Closer to .500 guy against teams with a pulse. People can continue to make this up and ignore that reality but it doesn’t change it. Winning a cool game is not the problem for Pope. Honestly? I think he might beat Florida at Rupp. It’s his MO. And that’s bad because it’s going to give Mitch the ability to destroy this program by using those wins as a reason to keep a guy who’s got a lifetime 63% winning percentage and stagnating. It’s bad for UK.

If Pope was young I’d get it. He’s not. Pope isn’t a young coach. People have to accept it at some point.

You don't know that. It just fits your narrative
Last week you were saying he was coming. I even offered to bet $100. I assume you never took me up on that. Now he likes Kansas better than Ky and that is what you want us to believe. Any reason the than the thought of playing for such a dumb ... coach makes him throw up in his mouth. He isn't going to ruin his career like Jasper did coming to KY to play for Pope just because he lived in Ky once upon a time.

If you think he isn't a different coach than he was here you don't watch a lot of other teams. He is doing a much better job building that program than the direction we are heading. Sure would be nice to Acuff.
