It’s not so much the win that is needed but a loss to psu is no bueno. Get that win, lose out and we are a solid 9 seed…. Probably.
Probably, but again.......just for the principle of the matter, the team needs to not be so wishy-washy that they lose to whatever unnecessarily scrappy, try-hard mediocre opponent they face in their first BTT game.

Assuming we beat PSU and win our BTT opener, that won't get us out of the 8/9 game.....but where you're seeded can also affect matchups.

Iowa -6.5
O/U 142.5

The buckeyes (17-10, 9-7) visit Carver to square off against the Hawkeyes (19-8, 9-7).

Just like Iowa, the Buckeyes are very up and down. It’s hard to gauge which team will show up week to week.

The Hawkeyes badly need this game, with likely only the PSU game left as favorites, the last week of the season is difficult.

72-67 hawks
You all can thank me for Iowa winning this game; I went away when Iowa was down by 13 early to bury my jinx karma. 👍🏼

The doubles on Bruce really threw them off.
We should've done that to Boyd and that Mills guy from Maryland. I dunno what defense this is but I like it, we were trapping their best (only) player and then rotating out perfectly once he gave the ball up. Dude had like 0 points until there were 10 minutes left and someone let him drive baseline.

The doubles and the defense as a whole was very good tonight. Great energy and as Ben would say, concentration. I thought the help side defense was good, especially when Bennett was help defending the low post and the baseline.

Iowa D, not luck.

I might have to re-watch the game to see BM's plan to keep ball out of his hands.

OSU coach praised Iowa's D. OSU may have to toast him with the record they have. They have some monster players.
I do not think we have trapped off ball screen all year, like we did vs Thornton.
Kael took him alone til screen came the alvaro or whoever was guarding screener jumped out to trap Thornton
The bigs did a good job of getting out there making it tough for Thornton to kick inside.

I think Ben knew that Thornton was on a roll and is their engine so he required special attention.
Maybe Ben recognized how mills shredded u as in MD game and sometimes you need to make other guys beat us.

Do the Hawks only have 1 timeout remaining now??

I know Coach's timeout usage is a little unorthodox, but to be left with only 1 timeout before the 1st media timeout of the 2nd half??

😬
Use 'em when you need 'em makes sense to me. Iowa didn't need any timeouts later because they used the ones they had early and intelligently.

Thornton had drive after drive on us in the first game against OSU. Ben knew that had to be job one and it worked to perfection.

I said this in another thread. Not sure why Ben has let guards just go downhill on us in so many games this season. It was great seeing our big not just switching out but both guys pushing the dribbler back and the guard not knowing what to do. It was way to easy for Boyd last game to get the switch and then just go down hill. Kudos on the adjustment.

I don't get it either. The poor kid can't even get in for a few minutes in a blowout. I trust Ben, but man, Hausen has wasted his senior year. He's never getting it back. I feel bad for him.
Duke I read more than post. Always generally like your take on things. Some senior perspective here. Sometimes things don't turn out the way you like or expect them to. A bit like the senior moments at this age it all depends on your attitude and how you approach things.

I don't think Hausen will regret his senior year here one bit. Ben has talked about his leadership role on the team off the court and he shows enthusiasm whenever you see him on the bench. He stepped into a renewal situation here with a great coach and has a chance to play a leadership role on a team that makes the NCAA tournament. Not a bad way to experience your last season before moving on to life beyond basketball.
