So it's relatively clear what Trumps plan is for all those in the country illegally.....

It's also relatively clear that the democrats en masse are against whatever plan Trump has....

Can someone explain for me what the democrat plan is to deal with the illegal migrants currently in the country, and what their plan is for either keeping the border closed or reopening it.

I'm just trying to understand what democrat leadership would do differently from the current administration one. How do you guys see it?

My assumption is honestly that the Democrats and Republicans are really not far off in terms of wanting to prevent illegal immigration and deport those who are here. I do think the method specifically with how ICE has been managed would be completely different.
I believe it to be objective that much of ICE's personel right now are unqualified for the position (whether that be simply because of their ability, or their lack of training).
There's been a "rush" to deport folks and I believe that to be more politically driven than in an effort to actually remove "bad guys". I would hope that the Democrats would actually take a slower approach that would actually be more effective.

Again though, I think the disconnect has more to do with how this is all being handled and managed than it is about this perceived notion that the left wants to defend and keep illegals in this country.

Exactly. Nobody on this board is against removing illegal immigrants, nobody so against getting rid of criminals. That doesn't mean you can't disagree with the way this is being attempted and accomplished.

Put it this way... I would assume that every person on this board agrees that shoplifting is wrong and should be punished. What if the government decided the punishment was to be Execution? I would assume many wouldn't support that.

First because they didn't let in 11 million.

And many were unhappy with how the border was handled. There was a bipartisan immigration bill that would have passed if Trump hadn't killed it so he could run on the issue.

- the definition of "illegal". Someone who came here and was granted temporary asylum, is not "illegal". Sadly, I think the right disagrees. When ICE raids a farm or a factory, they are obviously not rounding up criminals.

- due process: the interpretation of the constitution seems to be at odds. Dems take the constitution literally, republicans make the "thats what it says but not what it means" approach. "persons" are being denied due process. This is a violation of the constitution.


No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

so can anybody expand on these two? ....I'll start with the first...it is my understanding that if someone came here on probation or any of Biden's authorized plans they are here legally, same with anyone who has asked for and been granted asylum.....until they get a hearing at which point they are either granted authority to stay or set for deportation. And therein lies the problem ...the immigration courts are backed up for years. So we get into a situation where someone comes today, waits years for a hearing is deemed deportable, and then we all complain how unfair it is to deport someone who has been in the country for so long.

On the due process, can someone with more knowledge pitch in?

And the bipartisan bill that Trump killed was primarily to add more judges and speed up that process.

I don't think it was perfect, but it helped with a lot of things that people complain about.

the problem with the bill...not with the verbiage, was that the house was not even going to bring it to committee much less to the floor.

It's important to understand a little how the Congress works. Just because one chamber agrees to something is meaningless. If there is going to be successful legislation members of both have to be working on it to ensure passage through the process. Then throw the white house into the process as well to make sure president will sign it.

There was lots of info coming out of the Senate Bipartisan group which was, in fact, meaningless to the overall process. The Senate knew the bill was going nowhere. They could have had a 100-0 vote, it was already dead in the house.
