Trending in the right direction with Stokes

A little glimmer of hope for this bleak season. There’s growing reason to believe that we may be making significant progress in our pursuit of Tyran Stokes. Based on conversations with multiple trusted people, it appears that we currently have the most competitive NIL package on the table. More importantly, that Stokes and his camp are actively engaging with it.

Kansas has been highly favored for a while now and I had written any chance we had for Stokes off unless Self retired but from what’s circulating they’ve established a financial ceiling that falls noticeably short of what we’ve presented. That’s created a real opening and I’m told he’s seriously entertaining the possibility of coming here. Obviously, nothing is done and it’s a fluid situation but when you start hearing the same message echoed independently by several plugged in people, it’s hard to ignore.

Kentucky has not only re entered the mix but there is a growing belief internally that we may actually be trending into the lead.

If this happens, RR will have to shut down for a few days with all the basketball experts trying to delete the 12,267 "Pope can't recruit" threads
Nah. We'll give the man praise. Such a recruiting win would provide Pope some needed job security and stop the bleeding.

Stokes is that big of a deal.

I'll believe it when I see it though. I hope it happens. BBN needs this.

I think we need to go $4-5M for him.

This year I think we topped out in the low $2's. Which by the way makes the $22M # we keep hearing not likely, because it's safe to say we have several (Noah, Potter, Hawthorne, probably Moreno & Johnson) under $1M. I bet we are more in the $15M range.
Kentucky never corrected the rumor, which at this point is mentioned so much that you would think they would have corrected it due to the bad PR ($22 million on a roster that even when healthy was barely a top 10 team preseason).

The rumors are more likely true than not for that reason alone. No one from Kentucky has contradicted the reports. No one.

Why is that?

I sure would love to see it.

Even just Stokes, a very strong PG, and what we’ve already got (even losing DA and OO—I don’t add JQ because we don’t seem to already got him) would make us fairly respectable next year.

One thing that worries me is that Stokes pushes this into April and boosters and Mitch are fooled into thinking that keeping Pope will lead to his commitment, only for him to pull the rug out from us and commits elsewhere.

You guaranteed JQ was coming back as well. Said you worked with him personally.

Are you working with Stokes personally as well?

Yep Mitch and the boosters are waiting to see if he gets one player to decide whether to bring back Pope so Pope and Stokes worked out this master plan to give Pope another year mwahahaha genius……..except that he’s the coach next year regardless dude

yeah, I agree.

PG - Portal PG (needs to be above avg if not elite perimeter shooter), Lowe
SG - Chandler, Jasper
SF - Kam, Hawthorne
PF - Stokes, Mo
C - Moreno, Jelavic

Basically, if you could retain that core adding Stokes and an elite portal PG, that roster has really good potential.

This would be huge for getting a top HS player and for the perception of it as well. Is this first person or do you have a source for it? I'm not seeing anything anywhere else as of yet.

Once again, oxygen is our friend folks… Take a deep breath and clear your mind… Now, you are Tyran Stokes, and you’ve been watching UK play this season, you’ve watched the coaching staff, you’ve watched the pre-game preparation, you’ve watched the double digit deficits and losses, you see there’s no one of your caliber coming in with you, you know the head coach is on the hot seat, and you have one chance to get this right…

Do you go with KU and Self who is a proven Hall of Fame winner, who will surround you with other “dudes”, or, do you go with Pope who has never won a damn thing, and will surround you with Chandler, Moreno, and Garrison?

I mean, are we having a laugh at this nonsense already?

I actually agree with you. I think if I were Stokes I’d go to Kansas. But I’m not Stokes.

I will believe it when I see him on campus.
