Mike had a winning record 19-17 (which is rare at MSU). And for 2020, the covid year, (our record 3-7) the season was completely bonkers, the non cons were canceled, had we played them we'd had 3 or 4 more wins (they were New Mex, NC State (likely a toss up) Tulane and Alabama A & M). Plus UGA was added to our schedule to make up for the loss of the non cons.
Mike was never close to being fired and had he lost the egg in 2022, he wouldn't have been fired or even on the hot seat.
Since 1950, 4 football coaches have left State with a winning record, and Mike is one of two since Darrell Royal left in the mid 50s.
Dak singlehandedly brought more notary to Starkville than another person.

Dak should have one because Archie and Eli have one at Ole Miss. That's enough for me. Go ahead and make it look like the stiff arm he gave LSU.
He won a bunch of SEC Titles and SEC Tournament Titles and took us to numerous equivalents of basketball Final 4’s but I never said even Ron Polk should have a statue but he did a hell of a lot more for Mississippi State baseball and brought more “notoriety” to Starkville and MSU than Dak ever did.
And I’m not dissing Dak, he helped win some important games and helped get us to a #1 ranking in football for about 5 weeks and has played well for one of the most iconic NFL teams but that’s it.

You think Polk brought more attention to State/Starkville than Dak? Baseball was niche college sport in Polk's day (maybe still is).
Lance Harter won 7 NCAA track and field championships at Ark. No one around the country knows who he is, same with Polk.

I agree with all of that and I appreciate what Dak did at State and I appreciate how he supports our school and his school.

I would be all in and very much in favor of that and I may change my mind on a statue if he goes on to win a Super Bowl or two ( and I hope he does), even as a Saints fan and if he donates a large sum of $$ and wants to have some upgrade or addition with his name on it at the stadium, then a statue would be worthy.
I just think for the most part , statues should be for an individual who won a championship or a Heisman or was a winning coach for multiple years. Like it or not, Lemonis probably deserves one in 2031 on the 10th anniversary of our Natty.
Hopefully we can put one up of O’Connor for multiple Nattys the same year we do Lemonis.
Just for the record. Leach would have been 5-7 or 6-6 without covid in 2020. Lose the win vs Vandy. Add 3 or 4 OOC wins. At NC State we would have been a slight underdog, but close to a toss up. But yeah, Leach wasn’t getting fired.

I agree with Bailey Howell at the Hump. He represented State well and has returned to support our basketball program for years.
I think we should not go crazy throwing up statues all over campus though. Set a schedule to put one up every 4 years or some agreed upon time frame. Maybe have the class graduating class participate in the voting.
Allyn McKeen is another great candidate. 1940 and 1941 were spectacular years for State football.

Well he sure won't get a statue for it and it was a long time ago so his statue wouldn't mean much to most but nobody in my 55+ years of following State football had a more positive and long lasting impact on the program than Bob Tyler . You really had to be there to know what I'm talking about.
