I never said this was UK basketball. Last year was a good start for Pope, this season has been a disaster, but even the greatest coaches in the history of the sport had terrible years.
Again, I don't think Pope is the right guy, but he has shown he has coaching talent and injuries have been a problem
He's getting a 3rd year, you get that, right? If he sucks, he's gone. It's that simple.
So your saying I’m right

man you got a way of taking the long way around…….….Groovy

You must be a pope defender
Wrong. I just don't feel the need to be weak minded and talk out of both sides of my mouth.

I already stated I don't think Pope is the right guy for this job and I also said I hated how passive he is. So, when he finally does show some fire, I'm not going to be an *** and say it was wrong.

Also, Pope is one of us and even if he’s the wrong guy, why do you guys feel the need to kick him while he is down? What exactly did he do to deserve to be hated?

The guy is pouring everything he has into this and it’s not working. To me, it's incredibly classless to hate the guy and pour salt in his wounds while things are going sideways. Do you feel better about yourself after unloading on the guy?

Half of us say he's too passive, the other half say he's too nice, but the second he gets mad and calls out the refs, we turn on him and say he should have kept his cool.

Then we have dudes that are mad at him because he didn't go ape-sh*t and get T'd up. The guy can't win, you guys move the goalposts constantly.

I’ve been saying it here all night. We do not matter. It’s naive to think we matter. Kentucky basketball is a business.
The whole sport is a big business, and Kentucky is one of the linchpins, for better or worse. From the NBA on down to youth AAU ball. I have a friend whose ten or eleven year old son plays AAU and they’re traveling almost every weekend during the season. I forget he exists for a third of the year.

Pope is done, man. Caved to the pressure. We would be a 1 seed with Donovan right now
Can’t help but wonder what would’ve happened if we waited a few more days for Donovan. It always seemed short sighted to eliminate him from contention just because you had to wait maybe a week longer than you planned. It’s not like you expect to win it all year one.

And how would you categorize getting into it at a apartment complex over a Recruit 🤨 With Pat Kelsey 🤨

I mean what kind of look 👀 did that give the program?

we got run out of the building by Michigan State and Gonzaga ….this is not the Kentucky way my young padowan…. It is opposite of What the UK Force is all about

It’s his responsibility to have the players READY

it’s his responsibility to ensure every game is scouted and gone over

it’s his responsibility With these players because he RECRUITED THEM

he wanted to be the man…. Now he’s learning what being the man is all about

-Michigan State had players rape coeds on multiple occassions.
-UNC had AFAM and "Wheels for Heels and not long ago, whe beat their asses by 28
-KU had a guy try to hit a guy wuth a chair and had several off the court violent incidents. KU also just got run at home by 16, to Cincinnati.
-Louisville went like 5 straight years with some sort if a scandal and went a whole season where they won, like, 5 games

And you're worried about This crap? Get a life.

Do you feel good about that? Do you think it's right to totally rub Mark Pope's face in dog crap? Does he deserve that? I don't think so.

Well said.

Give the man a fair amount of time to build his program. Has had his whole team only 10 games in 2seasons. Crippling injuries have derailed progress.

This is NOT how you win over BBN Pope. What happened to you telling the fans to HOLD YOU ACCOUNTABLE??????

I was there at Rupp during you're rally when you said this.

It's absolutely NOT passive aggressive, and Matt Jones should know passive aggressive better than to say it. This is what a coach SHOULD say and do. Winning or losing.

When Matt Jones won that state/national title for his HS/college team, his coach was the same way.

He's blaming everyone but himself and the players.

Like you have never been emotional before.
Actually, if you go back and listen to it again, you will hear him near the end say, "no excuses." He isn't blaming, he is answering the question that was asked about what he is going to say to his players who "saw the play." The clear insinuation is that the players will blame the officials. The whole power reference means that we are NOT going to let anyone affect us on the court.

I understand that, but that is only one side of the coin. The other side of the coin, is that they should have never been in that situation to begin with. Like I said, many times. A well coached team, with well coached players don't put themselves in that situation. This situation has been a constant throughout this season and last. I'm not sure why you refuse to understand that?

Pope has blamed himself all season long and all he did was talk about how they weren't good enough in certain aspects of the game, so I'm not sure your "blaming everyone but himself" comment is accurate at all and I don't think you guys understand just how hard it is to win on the road in this league and it's damn near impossible to win on the road when the home team is allowed to manhandle you, but your guys get called for every touch foul.

Also, Pope made adjustments all game long to keep us in the lead and counter everything Auburn was doing.

And I don't know how Pope can be blamed for Garrison missing a wide open layup to go up 3 and then, have 3 guys NOT get a rebound after three Auburn shot attempts there at the end.
Yeah, BG shouldn't have been in the game, but MM was in foul trouble and BG is actually a better free throw shooter, so there are legit reasons for playing BG at the end.

This isn't a video game, it doesn't work like that. Just because we're UK, doesn't mean we just automatically go on the road, in league play, down 3 guys, with multiple star players in foul trouble the entire game and just easily beat a desperate Auburn team that is very athletic. This same Auburn team won at Florida.

This idea that we should have easily won that game, is just ridiculous. We were 3.5 point dogs for a reason.

Again, this isn't a video game.

Btw this is why you don’t hire former players. He’s legacy in Lexington is now done. When he’s gone he’s gone and this is all he’ll be remembered for.

THIS is why I’ve been saying I want it TO END. Because I want his legacy in tact. Now some of you stubborn fidgets might start to get it.
No way!

Clearly Chris Mullin crushed it at St. John's, Patrick Ewing was outstanding at Georgetown, Juwan Howard was magical at Michigan, and Mike Woodson was wonderful at IU!!

I think you're misunderstanding what I am attempting to convey.

We lost to Missouri at the last second because of bad play. We lost to other teams because of bad play. It's the bad play. I am not sure why you're not understanding that?

Auburn had bad plays too. But the bottom line is, one team was allowed to play physical all game long, the other was in foul trouble all game long.

Our guys got behind in the last minute, but made clutch plays to get a 3 point lead, then, one bad call flipped the script and handed the game to Auburn.

I bet you also didn't know that DA was really sick too. The deck was stacked against us and the guys on the floor overcame all that, then a POS ref stole it from us at the end.

But yeah, get one of those rebounds with 2 seconds left and the game is won. We didn't get the rebound.

I also thought that Pope did a great job getting us in a position to win Sat. Shame Green stole that game.

Just don’t have the overall talent to run away from teams and he has to improve that area. Get players that share his vision and get his message. That’s probably not players who are just money focused. UK can attract great players that share his front of the jersey first vision.

Why wasn’t Moreno in the game at the end on the last play? Garrison had no business being in there. He already screwed up that wide open putback with about 18 seconds left that would have won it for us. Moreno’s physical presence would have been huge in the last two seconds.

I don’t think he shouldn’t retract anything. I think he’s saying what he’s wanted to say for awhile. He just had to get frustrated enough to say it. Most of our fans are amazing but some of them are disturbing and coaches go to bat for their guys. It’s why I’ve been begging Pope to build a foxhole mentality for awhile now. I think that mentality in the postgame was a good one. I didn’t see a defeated coach —- I saw a pissed off, motivated one and I hope it leads to better team unity.
Oh ffs 🤦🏻 I’ve heard this schict before and it’s completely and unadulterated Nonsense

Good question. Then with only 1.2 seconds left he put Moreno in to catch the "hail Mary" hoping for a miracle like the Tennessee game. Didn't work this time. 🤔

That was a boneheaded decision. We should have tossed it to Halfcourt and immediately call timeout. We had one and didn’t use it.

You blame him for having Garrison in the game. Everyone making excuses for Pope want to blame ref's, Garrison or someone other than Pope. The buck stops at the top. The ref's call didn't cost us the game. It only gave Auburn the ball. He did extend his arm. Pope should have coached Chandler not to extend arm or run risk of a foul. Auburn did not make the initial shot they made the third shot which means we go out rebounded two times.

Coaches job to get talent.....I think our biggest power 5 margin of victory is 12. But several really bad loses and constantly behind. Not Ky standard and don't understand why it is difficult for so many people to see. At a minimum, the best any fan should say is I am waiting until next year to withhold my judgement. If you truly think he is doing a good job you are.... actually I am at lost for how to describe what you are.

Didnt read through all of this thread so apologize if point was already made . . .

But Matt Jones and Co were talking about this this morning and trying to figure out what Coach meant with all the "Personal" talk etc towards the referrees and I think they are misreading that and the "Personal" part was more directed at Fans and Media.

I believe his rant wasnt just about the bad call and referees but as mix of emotions at basically everybody who was coming at him and his team lately. Remember they had just come off a really bad loss that kind of stirred back up all of the heat from earlier in the year that caused him to do odd things just like this after games.

Then we went on the run and that subsided until last week when it all came back again and that created a sensitivity to it all again. So when they lost Saturday the way they did I think his post game was a spewing out of all those emotions and frustrations and directed at everybody, not just the referees. And thats why it sounded mixed up and all over the place. But make no doubt the fans and media were included in that.
