Pope: I refuse to give control outside of our program "Fans included"

Losing with a 3point lead at 18seconds is a failure of the coaching staff.
Ball should have gone to Alberdeen in first place. He could run the baseline too - so passing to Aberdeen was easy. You got a time out left - call it & set up a play🏴‍☠️

I do agree as well. I saw it. Took it personally, as if he was talking to BBN because of the negative stuff online from BBN towards Pope.

I would recant my OP if he was talking about the opposing team.

But either way, if there is no context, we live in the land of conjecture.
He said even if it’s personal to you. He was talking to UK fans.

There is no context at all to what he said. Any fan frustrated at Pope would assume he is talking about the UK fans or any fans included.
He was 100% talking about UK fans. Listen to it again. “No matter how personal it might get”

Some will try to spin anything to help him ignore it. He was absolutely talking about UK fans. Why would Auburn fans be personal to the UK program. My god some people will try anything to coddle the guy.

He said 'outside of our program'. You don't seriously think he is trying to isolate the team from the fans? He is stating that he won't blame the refs or fans or anything else inside the game for a loss.

Pick on Pope all you want but he wouldn't insinuate that he can separate the UK fans from the team.
No. He said “no matter how personal it might be”. wtf would Auburn fans have a personal connection to anything Kentucky. You’re just coddling him and you’re spinning it. It’s called confirmation bias.

100% was not. You obviously haven't watched the video. Or if you have you misunderstood.
He said no matter how personal it might be. He was talking to UK fans. It doesn’t even sound close to talkin about Auburn fans lol.

No he was 100% talking to UK there. Auburn fans? It doesn’t even make sense he would say all that to Auburn lol.

His 'personal' remarks were in reference to the officials. Man, just watch the full video.
I have watched every question from the video. You are way off. Not even close. He went on a rant about not giving power up no MATTER HOW PERSONAL IT MIGHT GET. NO MATTER HOW BAD IT MIGHT GET. How would this be bad or personal to Auburn? Or the officials? I can’t even find the context you’re using

I can’t for the life of me understand what you’re saying.

Here...
.

You’re still not understanding this. Mark took the opportunity to say what he said. He basically blanketed the remark to shield himself. That’s why Matt, F68, and everyone else understands this was a passive remark directed AT UK Fans. He did it passively. He was not talking about just a call, he made a statement directed at others. This isn’t hard. You just aren’t comprehending his intent behind the remark. Everyone else gets it. You’re just not getting it.

If we're watching the same thing and you are drawing this vastly different conclusion then there is no way I can convince you.

Just suffice it to say, I am seeing no where else on line where he was dogging UK fans.

He was clearly saying he wasn't going to blame losses on things in the game that weren't directly within the teams control. For example, the officials or the fans who influence the officials in an arena.

Listen man I’m not going to keep going through this with you. lol. Are you trolling? Tweet Matt Jones and everyone else in twitter who understand it just fine as an attack on UK fans, and tell them no no he was just talking about officials and Auburn fans lol. it’s not worth arguing. It was blanketed passive attack on UK fans and he knows exactly what he meant.

Watching the press conference he was agitated, angry and frustrated. Could have handled it better, but he just lost a game on a BS call. He needs to do better. I can understand his reaction. That was probably the worst officiated game this season. That being said some of us calling him out in this thread have said much worse about players, Pope and his staff.

Wait, why are we mad? The guy was p*ssed off and that's what we wanted. He was fuming in that press conference and he was protecting the players and telling everyone they are focused on trying to win.

Pope most likely isn’t going to be here much longer, but I like seeing him p*ssed off, because that's what it's going to take.

He called out the refs without actually calling them out, isn't that what we want him to do?

And to sit here and say "ball should have gone to Aberdeen" blah, blah, blah, that's some Monday morning quarterback crap there. Throwing the ball in to Chandler was a good option, Aberdeen was covered and DA could have been called for that same foul too.

Yeah, maybe Pope could have left the fans out of it, but he wss p*ssed and trying to protect his players and let them know he has their back.
I liked seeing him angry, been waiting for it. I'm not going to be so sensitive that I come unglued.

Cal used to mock us and call us Bennies, I don't care that he has been to final 4's and won titles, don't mock me when you're losing to Evansville at home.

I don't get it, we get mad at him for being passive, now we're chapped at him for being p*ssed. Make up your minds guys. Are we really going to be that sensitive?

Yeah, should have had a bigger lead, but our key guys were in foul trouble in a road game, how the heck do you defend an athletic team when you're not allowed to defend?

We all know Pope is not ready for this job, we all agree on that, but that doesn't mean we need to over-critisize everything the guy does, especially when he's actually working his a$$ off to win. Our last coach stopped putting in the work many years ago, at least Pope is trying to do everything he can to win.

"We have to find a way to win at South Carolina, because that's what we do."

When? And if we win, we'll lose by 30 the next game. That's what we do.

Btw this is why you don’t hire former players. He’s legacy in Lexington is now done. When he’s gone he’s gone and this is all he’ll be remembered for.

THIS is why I’ve been saying I want it TO END. Because I want his legacy in tact. Now some of you stubborn fidgets might start to get it.
It's working for Duke.

Pope should’ve kept his mouth shut in that press conference for obvious reasons. It’s not a good idea to say things like that in front of the media. I know it’s tough when someone’s mad but theirs a time and a place for everything and that wasn’t it.
It would have been smart, but I doubt any of us would have in the same situation.

Get that bum out of that seat he’s an embarrassment. I’ve said it here before and few listened. I’ve tried to be nice, but mark isn’t the nice guy he’s made out to be. He’s a decent person but he’s not what he’s made out to be. So take it for what you want, but it is true.

He’s gone off on coaches, players, fans, and officials.

Never once holds himself accountable. Get him out of here.
He has held himself accountable plenty of times, but the bottom line is that was just stupid what he said, and he's definitely cracking under the pressure. Even if we won the tournament go to Suite 16, which I seriously doubt we will do. I would support if we got another coach at the end of the year. Sometimes you just don't fit.

I have no way to prove it, but I’m pretty sure Donovan passed on us when we hired Tubby, Gillespie and Cal. Like he said before he was even interviewed that he wasn’t interested
He did pass on us twice. At the time he was at Florida off 2 titles I think? At the time it was reasonable for him to say no. It's also reasonable to think he would say no a third time because of his past actions of saying no. However, I think you still put him in the pool because many years has passed since then.
