Mississippi State already has statues on campus commemorating Palmero, Clark, and Ron Polk. Who do you think will have statues in the future?

Dak will have one for sure
Jake Mangum likely
It’s a shame that Bailey Howell doesn’t already

I think there needs to be some memorial to Mike Leach in the Junction. Doesn’t have to be a statue.

There should absolutely be a statue of Bailey Howell with a descriptive plaque somewhere inside or outside of the Hump.

Hell, just post his career college stats under it...

27 ppg, 17 rpg

He just turned 89 and they've already got the model for it...

I’m curious why Dak and Jake should get one?
Jake should maybe get one just because of how many times he beat ole miss but seriously, besides Jack and maybe Bailey, I don’t see the justification for statues.
I’m not even sure I’d feel ok with a statue of Lemonis in about 10 years but maybe in 10 years I’ll feel differently about that.

Uhhh, maybe because we’ve had very little athletic success and very few athletic heroes? The bar is low.

Statue for Cristil, sure.

Bailey Howell was a fantastic basketball player… Nearly 70 years ago. The game that he played is completely unrecognizable and I don’t think legends from that era often connect to current day fans.
With that said, he was a highly decorated college and NBA player and his number is the only retired number for basketball. Him having a statue makes the most sense out of anyone for basketball.

Dak Prescott was a fantastic college football player and has had a long and successful NFL career. He was also the team leader during the time when the program has had the most success in decades. Out of everyone I can think of for football, he seems most deserving.

I have no idea why the school would put up a statue of Mike Leach. Just because he died while he was an active coach does not mean a statue should be put up. He was not here long enough and did not have enough success while here to justify a statue.
His situation equals a plaque on a column at the entrance of the stadium.

I’m not suggesting a Leach statue, but there needs to be something

love Jake and Dak and they have a special place in the heart of every MSU fan - Jake's hitting records deserve a plaque for sure but not sure it reaches statue status.

Dak won some great games for us on the football field. He got the team to number one during the season against teams that turned out to be marginal at best. He did not win any game of consequence - no conference championship game, no playoff game - granted that had more to do with Mullen shopping himself around in November of that year. Maybe if Dak wins a Super Bowl a statue would be merited.

But if there's space and plenty of money to throw around, I say the more statues on campus the better.

tyrone keys? and he has a superbowl ring AND he was in a music video on MTV!!
And he put THE HIT on Don Jacobs to give State its greatest football victory ever.

The second greatest would be the 1935 win over undefeated Army - We need a statue of PeeWee throwing the winning touchdown pass.

So, we should stop talking about John Wooden as one of the greatest basketball coaches of all time because the game has changed? What a moronic take!

If they do they need to find a different artist. I know the guy that did the 3 mentioned is/was connected to MSU but they are not great. One of my old teammates said when he first saw the Rafael statue "did he just hit a foul ball?"

I can't unsee that when I look at it.
You young 'uns won't know what I'm talking about but you will Bruce, I see the Marlboro man in Rafael's statue

You quoted me and chose to not include the part where I say I think Howell should have a statue because he was a highly decorated college and NBA player, and because his number is the only one that is retired.

Just because the accomplishments of players from an era 70 years ago often dont resonate with a lot of current fans doesnt mean I think we should stop talking about them.

Calm the 17 down. Your conclusion is not what I think or what I posted.

One of the most notable football coaches ever dies on active duty, and we’ve done nothing to honor him with a permanent memorial.
One who was two inches away from being fired right before he died. No coach at either school has lost three egg bowls in a row and kept their job. Leach barely survived the end of his last one.

Are you smoking crack? He wasn’t close to getting fired. 🤣

I’ve always thought flying the Jolly Roger flag outside dws 24/7/365 in honor of Mike would be better than any statue.

I’ll say this about Bailey Howell. 2-time all American. 6 time NBA all star. 2 time NBA champion. In the Naismith Hall of Fame. If we’re going to have a statue at the Hump, there’s no other choice.
