I don't understand a lot of what they are asking for or being offered because I don't really care about them LOL

But this is a high level view from what I have found: The Bears have been pushing for legislation that would allow them or a developer building a new stadium to freeze the amount they would pay in property taxes and lock in a property tax assessment for up to 40 years rather than pay much higher taxes if assessed at full commercial value once complete. Commercial property tax rates in Illinois are relatively high, and a new stadium/mixed-use district would face much higher annual property taxes once fully developed.

They have also asked for exemptions on sales tax for construction which reduces the building costs and is common in large development projects. They also want public funding for infrastructure improvements tied to a new stadium: which we have seen around these parts in order to get these types of facilities built or at least considered.

So the economic boost is certainly tempered by what is 'lost' or 'given away' to keep them there and to build. Indiana must have really worked a honey of a deal rather quickly. Almost feels like they just want to snipe them away to be dicks. HA
So maybe it’s just not worth the money and trouble to keep them? Business decision.

I mean, on the low low end, 5 million dollars each Sunday?

I don't know if you are super familiar with Soldier Field but the area is not great for tailgating, just because of the lack of space, so the local bars just get packed, same with the restaurants.

There will 100% be businesses that close up because of this, just like in South O when the CWS moved

Sure, but those businesses would have been hit just as harder, or harder, if the Bears relocated to Arlington Heights. It's not a fight over whether the Bears stay on the lakefront. It's a tug-of-war over whether they move to an affluent suburb or across the state line.

I won't be surprised if they eventually stay on the Illinois side, using the Indiana package as leverage.

That is 100% what I think will happen too...they will end up staying.

If what you posted is accurate, I don't know how you reach that conclusion. There weren't even asking for a stadium, just low taxes?
They WERE asking for incentives to build a new stadium from what I have learned. Not sure how you gleaned anything different than that. All of those incentives were being requested to keep them in Illinois and Chicago.... to build a new stadium and entertainment district.

If you don't believe that to be the case so be it... all of the research I did is summarized there. I am by no means a Bears fan and couldn't give a flip either way so I am not digging any deeper into things re: developments beyond what I understand and have been involved in... just one outsider's somewhat semi-educated take.

Other cities are offering more than incentives.

The Bears wanted like 40 years of no or minimal property taxes on the stadium and land in Illinois, apparently the Bears owners are poor in terms of owners and can't afford anything on their own from my understanding. The State of Illinois still owes $500 million on the Soldier Field renovations from 2003.

What’s our Resident Bears fan( king monkey) take on this?
Seems like a sweet deal to me

one anyone here would undoubtedly take

no bears fans care about this. Soldier field is a terrible fan experience and has been for decades. The team is moving no matter what.

Ultimately something only obsessed little brother (OP) hangs onto when they know they can’t win on the field

"No Bears fans care"? Lol. I know many Bears fans and they are pissed. Wrong again. Folding up your tents and leaving your city and your state. Sad state of sellout affairs. That would never happen in Green Bay.

So, in this case you think a for-profit company should continue being taxed by dems instead of pursuing redder, more profitable pastures?

A hypocrite, a b*tch and a retard walked into a bar

the bartender said “the usual cranberry juice, @HBK4life_rivals100467 ?”

Yea sorry where the Bears play their football games doesn’t really register on my “things that matter” dashboard

obviously it’s a big deal for you, though!

@SuperBigFan69 has never been more vindicated

MAGA guy actively deriding a multi-billion dollar enterprise for moving from a blue state to a red state because he’s all in his feels - LMAO

While it is lame that they are moving it is not because of lack of fans or anything like that. It is because Illinois (more specifically Chicago) is insane with their taxing.

What is the difference between the Bears leaving Chicago and Tesla leaving California?

This is something you’ve openly celebrated time and again.
Really you can figure out the difference between sports team and manufacturing automobile battery powered cars.

I'm not a Bears fan, but seriously why would anyone care about this? An NFL team based in a major city is moving to the suburbs for financial reasons?

"11 current NFL teams do not play in their namesake city, with 3 teams playing in a different state entirely.

Teams Playing in a Different State

New York Giants and Jets: Officially based in New York but play at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Washington Commanders: Officially based in Washington D.C. but play at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland (moving back to D.C. in 2030).
Teams Playing in Suburbs or Nearby Cities

Dallas Cowboys: Play in Arlington, Texas (20.5 miles from Dallas).
New England Patriots: Named for the region but play in Foxborough, Massachusetts (Boston area).
Las Vegas Raiders: Play in Paradise, Nevada (unincorporated area near Las Vegas).
Los Angeles Rams and Chargers: Both play in Inglewood, California (within the LA metro area).
Arizona Cardinals: Play in Glendale, Arizona (Phoenix suburb).
San Francisco 49ers: Play in Santa Clara, California (Silicon Valley/SF Bay Area).
Buffalo Bills: Play in Orchard Park, New York (suburb of Buffalo).
Miami Dolphins: Play in Miami Gardens, Florida (suburb of Miami). "
