And none of those coaches you mentioned are at Kentucky and they all have different standards. Purdue got lucky with painter he still hasn’t won a title multiple times embarrassing tournament losses . Very few coaches have what it takes to coach at Kentucky and BoB Huggins was at West Virginia FOREVER and never won hardly anything . Pope had no business being hired here he had no tournament wins never would that happen at Kansas, Duke , UConn or UNC his boss is a idiot and the only reason he got the job is because he played there PERIOD
Hubert Davis had zero tournament wins when hired at UNC. Jon Scheyer had zero tournament wins when hired at Duke.
Hurley had 2 wins when hired at UConn.

They can all recruit and scheyer was under the greatest of all time Herbert Davis can recruit Hurley can recruit and with Hurley didn’t have 22 million he also wasn’t at Kentucky . UConn also had the Covid year and he showed progress every year but Kentucky isn’t a rebuild type of program it never has been .

Obviously Pope is getting a third year. Part of me says what’s the point, just ripped the Band-Aid off now. The other side of me says. Even though I don’t think Pope is the right coach. If you fire him now. Every coach you talk to might be hesitant because they think they only have two years to get it right or they’re out. I don’t think that’s a very good precedence to set.

If I had to pick someone next year. I’m really watching Jai Lucas. He has Miami doing pretty well this year. I’d like to see how he does in the tournament and see how he does next year. He’s already signed some pretty good recruits for next year at Miami. If he has a good two year run there at Miami. He’s young, relatable, seems to understand this new college system. He would definitely be one of my top candidates.
I’m not so sure he’s getting a 3rd year.

I still think he will. But I’ve learned this week that there’s some people that really matter voicing real anger about Pope.

I think Otzelberger could be good too given what he's done at Iowa State. I looked over his coaching history and see he started at South Dakota State then moved to UNLV after a good run there. Then, looks like he had a few very mediocre years at UNLV before he went to Iowa State. I wonder what the draw was for Iowa State after he didn't do much at UNLV. Either way, he's turned out to be a really good coach.

One major hurdle with him are his ties to ISU...
  • On June 1, 2013, he married Alison Lacey,[1][3] former ISU women's basketball standout...the spouse being an alumn may a pretty big thing, but she is from Australia, so she is not an Iowa native or anything, so who knows?

Are you able to expand on this more? It doesn’t matter who I guess but what is being said that you have heard?

People should cut the s.h.i.t. Support what you have. Grass ain’t always greener. People are like “we need to go get Hurley and give him whatever he wants”. The same Hurley that just lost at home to 13-13 Creighton. The same Hurley that didn’t get going for a few years. People want all the coaches who appear in the top 10 at the moment. Are some of you guys that fickle?

You name a coach, anywhere, who could’ve dealt with all the injuries we’ve had while trying to stave off EVERYBODY’S best effort, game after game, and it’s gonna be a war in Auburn again Saturday. They’re a pretty good team who have lost 5 in a row. Similar to GA, they’ll be playing their *** off. We need to win, and we very well may, but it ain’t easy sometimes. I’m not happy with our results this season either, but sometimes it just happens. We hope to get past the injury bug, learn some hard lessons about acquiring players, being a little better shoppers, and hit the ground rolling next season. This season ain’t over. These guys have the potential to surprise people, let’s just hope they do.

Meanwhile, keep posting threads, day after day, about how we need to nab Hurley, Oats, or May at any cost. Grow up. If this happens a solid year or so after we get past the bumpy road, then I’m sure it’ll be addressed at that time.

Rupp is not the goat he coached in the 40-60’s coach K unfortunately is a much better coach

Your right, the goat was John Wooden at UCLA.
10 championships in 12 seasons, and 7 in a row. I think 87 consecutive wins. K was a great coach, but for the talent he brought in, he should have won a lot more. And you have the same argument about era, as you had with Rupp. UCLA were getting the greatest of all time players back then, and are still considered some of the greatest.

No John wooden isn’t he’s a cheater . Cal had 10x the talent k had and barely won 1 title in 15 seasons . Cal should’ve had 4 titles and K probably 7 but K still much better than anything we’ve had close to him is probably pitino

I’m not getting into it all but there was a lot of cheat . You can easily cheat and win 10 titles actually would say he did win 10 titles because he did cheat . Bought his players ilegal things cars etc scandals all over the place

You don’t believe he cheated ?

I believe it's a crooked fkn world, and they all cheat. So yes I believe they did, Kentucky, and Duke probably all did. The prison system couldn't hold all the cheaters 😂

So give me a better argument then that, because if you want me to believe they were the only cheaters, it's not happening.

Nobody wanted pope here the 23k that showed up to the stupid press conference where just on high that cal was fired nobody really believed that pope was gonna win a championship here or even get to a final four he has no resume has never won anything as a coach this isn’t a rebuild school. When Cal was hired he won this is a win now school. It was far past Cal time to go I’ll be the first to say it after the lost to Auburn in 2018 in the elite 8 I thought he should’ve been fired and only got worse after that game that was 7 years it took for him to not even get fired but for him to leave . This isn’t wait 5-10 years and will see then kinda school. He’s down every single game by double digits never seen a team more unprepared than mark pope . You can make excuses about injuries but this team wasn’t good from the start they got a desperate pg out the portal who was bad and you all were convinced that he would just get better because he put a Kentucky jersey on well sticks got hurt before he stepped on a court . Although it’s not popes fault he got hurt it is his fault that he built this team . No coach at this school has had 7 home losses during his first two seasons only pope . There’s no getting better he has no recruits again while there will be 8 freshmen drafted in the lottery not one committed to Kentucky and it’ll be the same thing again next year . You can’t name a single thing outside of just hope that pope is getting better and it’ll just magically fall into place next year .

I still have to say Donovan, he seems made for this job. I like Pearl also, but He's getting up there. I think that's maybe why he wasn't really considered last time.
We could throw in Jay Wright as well. Wright, Donovan, and Pearl all have something in common in that if they still wanted to be coaching college basketball, they would be.

He definitely didn’t get anyone that can compete such as Wilson, boozer , flemings, and flag last year and many more like yaxel lendeborg or the many others we missed in the portal that chose other schools and we got stuck with our 3&4 options . Team wasn’t built correctly didn’t get any recruits and we missed on every portal piece and this is what we get for 22 million. We’re not getting any more than 22 million will probably get around half that amount this year because why would anyone give much for performances like this .
