anybody abstaining from any interesting luxuries? I've done social media in the past and likely will again; in fact, that may be the case even once Easter arrives.

When I converted to Catholicism lent was one of the things I didn’t understand as to why it wasn’t practiced in the Protestant churches more.

I grew up a Methodist and we observed lent.

Also, slight hijack, but didn't you say in the Freeze thread that you're now Agnostic. So, was your journey Protestant to Catholic to Indifferent? You don't have to answer, I was just curious.

Southern baptist to Presbyterian to Catholic to agnostic.

This pretty much sums me up:

1. This is not heaven, death and suffering are ever present
2. If you seek religion only as a mental ascent or comfort, then it will quickly hit a limit for both
3. Faith is a gift, not a puzzle
4. Focus on the virtues of deep gratitude and even deeper humility to find faith

Soda & Social Media are two things I've given up for Lent and ended up never going back.

Except for 6 Pack evidently:

Social Media- social platforms built on community interaction with user generated content and interactivity.

In before the lock because it looks like its getting too religious....................

This is where I go Jon Stewart.

If it’s a 17ing gift, what benevolent, loving person plays a twisted Dirty Santa, going: “you shall have peace and purpose; but as for you, you shall flounder in misery and confusion with no direction”. That’s Calvinist talk.

The puzzle comment:

The scriptures tell us to gain knowledge and evidence, then reason on it from a faith based standpoint. The whole book of Hebrews is a lesson in law, reason, and meaning. The moment someone says I have to turn my brain off and embrace cognitive dissonance, you lost me.

The Apostle Paul, in Ephesians, says explicitly that faith is a gift. Pretty solid source.

Reason works in concert with faith, but faith may not be as many define it (ignorant blind faith). Faith and reason is not not either/or it is "both and".

There is a reason why a priest proposed significant contributions for: the big bang theory, genetics, stellar classifications, the atom, seismology, aeronautics, light defraction, anthropology, botany, zoology and the mechanical clock. The ampere? Named a devout Catholic. The list is truly endless. Braille, pasteurized milk, the radio.... on and on and on....

There comes a point where someone realizes that their mental faculties are limited. At least, that is the hope.
