They’re paying $23M to make the move: $5M to the NCAA to move up, $18M to the MAC as a football-only member.

They must view those Tuesday night games as essential marketing. TBH I never heard of Sacramento State before this… so it’s working? 🤷‍♂️

This must be fake news.

All the "board experts" said college athletics was dead when players started getting paid.

99% of programs (including Rutgers) are going to cut athletics.
It's hopeless with no chance to compete.
All these kids are going to lose out on college because of no athletic scholarships.

Blah blah blah......

And yet....more and more schools are moving up to FBS football.

Clearly these schools havent read the message board.

IDK what SAC state moving to the MAC has to do with what you said. Seems like a folly. As we have seen, the costs of travel from East to West coast and vice versa, not just in terms of actual dollars, but the toll on "student" athletes is high. A rich conference like the B1G can absorb that cost. The MAC? IDK.

Why not join the PAC (1)2 or the Mountain West? But that would end the Ball SAC trophy game.

Maybe a more appropriate level for Sacramento State like CUSA is too far away but joining the MAC makes as much sense as Northern Illinois joins the MWC. Heck, the MWC is not even the MWC anymore so they could’ve went there instead. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The move up from FCS to FBS seems pretty expensive !!
Is it really worth it?
>Dellenger writes Sac State's addition "would bring a windfall to current member schools" with an entry fee of $15 million being discussed. That's in addition to the $5 million transfer fee owed the NCAA. North Dakota State paid $17.5 million to join the Mountain West earlier this week. <

With all the best FCS teams moving up to FBS, it's almost like it was before the split between D1A and D1AA. At this point, why have the designation?

If anything, a lot of these schools should be moving BACK down. It's ridiculous that a little school like UL Monroe that plays in a high school stadium in front of 100 people and the concessions stands are food trucks and the players dads grilling hot dogs, is expected to actually compete in the same league, i.e. in theory for the same National Championship as Alabama, USC etc.? It's just ridiculous. Where is the NCAA? Where are the university presidents?

Smart that more and more schools are realizing you don’t need all your sports in one conference. It makes no sense to be flying soccer, golf, swim, etc. teams thousands of miles away to play in front of 68 people. Plane rides, shuttles, hotels, food, etc. costs must be insane.

There are ways around that too. Smart and cost effective ways.

If you consider that to be ridiculous, then March Madness is far more ridiculous. In football only one or two G5 (now G6) champions make the playoffs. Whereas in basketball, they all do.

BTW, neither is ridiculous.

But to answer your questions:

Where is the NCAA? Counting their money. Money which the current system is bringing in, aplenty.

Where are the university presidents? Dealing with issues far more important than these.

Oh and one other thing. UL Monroe plays in a 27,500 seat stadium. They claim to have averaged 17,500 last year.

UMess has one of the worst teams this century. They should drop down to FCS

Made more sense in late 90’s when they were in semis a few times and made to the final in 96.
Should’ve started playing Nova and deleware back then .
they were once in line to buy the land adjacent to the newer hospital off of 55/322
think they were trying get the Philadelphia Union to help build Multi use complex

The Rowan Master Plan at one time included a 25K seat stadium.

Hold your horses, all the money to join and must prove worthy in 5 years or out ?
>Sacramento State will be a member of the MAC for a five-year term.

SMU bought its way into the ACC by taking zero media rights dollars for their first nine years of membership, and it's commonplace for schools to endure a prolonged wait to earn a full share. Rutgers had to wait six years to get a full Big Ten share, for instance.<
