was targeting the home of another JA student. https://kingfish1935.blogspot.com/2026/02/a-burglary-gone-wrong-rest-of-story.html

I'm assuming that's been common knowledge among Jackson people from the beginning, but surely that has added some salt in the wound of some JA parents. That kid's risk of being a victim of a crime was actually higher than other people in that complex that day because of going to JA. So they're not just recruiting people willing to engage in serious crime, but willing to target other students.

Also, somebody more familiar with the lay of the land can maybe correct me, but I'm assuming that apartment complex (or any apartment complex) is not the typical home of a JA student, and that student living there is probably particularly not affluent compared to other JA students. So this kid not only was willing to victimize another JA student, but instead of trying to victimize a student with more to steal from and better able to bear the cost of a burglary, he picks a class mate living in an apartment complex? I don't know if that should really matter, but that seems especially low to me. Not only do you not show any appreciation to the people paying for the school you attend, you **** on somebody whose family has probably been scrimping to have him there and/or relying on tuition assistance?

Interesting. And surely the other students who’s apt they broke into was another recruited athlete. Real JA students aren’t living in that apt complex.

I have been indifferent about idea of a school recruiting better players that inevidibly take the spot of players already at the school.

However, one of the bigger reasons parents send their kids to private school - particuarly in the case of Jackson Academy - is that they want their kid in a safe and stable environment. If I were a parent paying tuition at a private school - I would be really pissed off if the administration went and openly invited knuckleheads like this into the school and probably gave them scholarships.

Doesn't that give regular JA students (the ones whose parents want the best education for the kids, and perhaps some sort of status symbol as well) pause for thought, and perhaps even pull their kids out if athletics takes precedence? I know it would bother me, perhaps to that point. No idea what the options are however.

I would absolutely pull my kids out of JA. And would have even before this. Saw some pics from their girls basketball win over Prep in the playoffs the other day. Looks like recruiting days are still going strong.

Not surprising unfortunately - poor folks tend to have to deal with a lot more property crime than well-off citizens. It'd be nice if everyone could expect the same or at least a similar amount of "Protect & Serve", but, well, that's not how things are done here.

Haven't kept up with this.

Were there red flags on the kid leading up to his enrollment or while he was attending?

Hindsight tells me what I need to know about him but the rest tells me what I need to know about JA. I have my assumptions though...

So you're saying police patrol more affluent neighborhoods more than the ghetto? I would argue it's the opposite. And when the police are down in the ghetto how much cooperation do they get from the residents in identifying criminals on average? Do they actively work with law enforcement or are they openly hostile to law enforcement? Hard to expect a lot of protection and serve when a substantial segment of the residents in the poor neighborhoods don't want the police down there in the first place.

Not surprising that they would be at more risk in general, but I don't think it's obvious that he would pick another non-affluent student. I guess with how ubiquitous surveillance is in higher end areas, maybe it is a relatively foregone conclusion.

Not sure where "here" is for you, but where I've lived you typically get less "protect & Serve" in more affluent areas as far as actual resources expended. it's just thtat even with more resources spent in less affluent areas, it's not enough to overcome having more people in those areas willing to commit crime.

What a wild thing to say. As a Madison resident, I am pretty certain if my house were ever burglarized, it would be taken very seriously by the police and, who would catch the criminals, who would then receive the maximum possible sentence. If I lived in Jackson, especially somewhere outside a few pockets of Northeast Jackson, would the police ever care? Even if they did, would anyone expect any justice to be served?

In less than 20 years, I predict JA and Prep will have new campuses.
Prep just built the lower school and will be building a new building on its current site in the next couple of years which will be a lower school gym, cafeteria and an art room. They are also starting a capital campaign to update their upper school, Patriot Way and some upgrades to athletic facilities. Prep's not going anywhere.

Lift every voice and sing, OG! I had the “opportunity” to live in the Flowood area and return 20 years later. I stand by my statement. Flohood is being/has been flipped, sweetheart. Go to Target on a Saturday. Look at the empty store fronts. It ain’t the same place. Investing in real estate within 5 miles of the Pearl River is a lost cause boys and girls. Prep can build whatever they want. When the tide turns, and it has/will, Pisgah will make a fine campus site. Bad Bunny loves you.

Import the third world. This was my thoughts when some dummy was talking about parents being butthurt that their kid was beat out by a afalete coming in on a free ride. A private school is about a lot more than sports. There is a reason people pay out the a$$ to send their kids there. Several good reasons including safety and a decent education. Im confused as to how a kid comes in and actually passes his classes tbh

Recruiting seems to invite issues. Example now in Collierville Tn recruitment at St. George of 6-8 kid led to him raping another student on campus ! Tuition is 27 k per year.

LOL pretty sad that there are grown men out there scared of Flowood, MS.

I do agree that the apartments and crappily-built houses in Pearl and around the reservoir has brought in some riff-raff. But none of this even approaches the level needed to get Jackson Prep to move. They aren't exactly recruiting families that think the way you do. And when I say 'you', I don't mean conservatives.....I mean over the top, scared of anything different, nimrods who can't see the big picture. The types that sell their house and moves further out because their friend told them to. At some point you can't out-commute your fear. The City of Jackson and immediate surrounding areas will always be the driver, I don't care how many Nissans and Continentals you build, and I hope it's a bunch of them, the City is still the business and governmental center of the state, and the economic engine of central MS.

Prep has students from Madison, Ridgeland, Clinton, Eastover, Belhaven, Pearl, Brandon, all over. Why the 17 would they move out to BFE Skankin Rankin and recruit a bunch of Pisgah and Morton folks with your attitude? Man I bet that school would succeed*******.

I'm just trying to educate you, Archimedes. I fully expected to come here and just continue to 17 with you, but for some reason I decided to help you understand.

You realize Jackson and Madison are two different jurisdictions? And not even just two different municipalities, but different counties and also very importantly, circuit courts.

If Dorn was making the obvious statement that more affluent jurisdictions are nicer and more effectively prevent crime, then yea, obvious statement is obvious. I thought he was making a claim that affluent area within a jurisdiction get “more protect and serve”, which may be true in some places but is not true in any place I’ve lived. Where I’ve lived, resources are concentrated where the crime is. Granted I haven’t lived anywhere that had declined enough that they might feel the need to focus on keeping the decent areas livable rather than focusing on where the most crime is (other than a brief stint in Jackson where I wasn’t there long enough to understand anything more than people that visit). But I think in reasonably healthy cities LEO resources are focused on marginal areas, not affluent ones.

You addressed nothing I said. You lose.
It’s like winning gold in the Special Olympics, OG. No one said anything about being “scared” of Flowood. I’d also argue the economic “powerhouse” in the state is now shifting to Desoto and Marshall counties if it wasn’t already there.

If you don’t think the masses are heading east and north, ask Gluckstadt, Flora, and North “Stankin” Rankin residents. When’s the last time you’ve been to the Northpark Mall on a Friday night? The soccer moms ain’t driving their kids to South Jackson Academy, Clinton Academy, and/or now County Line Prep for a reason. There will eventually be a line drawn on Lakeland Drive. The future of the current institutions will look different than the past 60 years.

As a Flowood resident of more than 25 yeas, Flowood isn't flipping or declining, it's growing massively. Middle class homes are being built every day. New businesses are continually moving in.

Every municipality in the metro has apartments, expect Madison, the city, and too many apartments hurt any municipality in the long run. Ridgeland and Clinton are in much worse shape apartment wise than Flowood and are still safe places. Flowood will be good past our lifetimes. Prep isn't going anywhere, it has the best location of any private school in the metro.

The reason you see so many Hinds county tags in Madison and Rankin counties is because Hinds county residents don't have many places to shop/eat.

The tide isn't going to turn, instead it will be a long slow decline, society will just continue to get shittier and shittier until we end up the movie Idiocracy.

Since the kid who lives in the apartment, and the ones who broke in or attempted to do so, I'm wondering if burglary was the motive. I'm sure that the kids knew each other. Could a beatdown have been the motive?

Jackson Prep will be more than fine. Like the above poster said, they have the best location of any private school. They are able to attract 39047/Flowood families, give JA a run for some Eastover families, and its not too far up Lakeland to be an option for some Madison County families.

I love what Christ Covenant is trying to build - they have a location problem though. Its tough to get there. MRA has built on every inch of their campus.

There is a lot of land perfect for a private school off Reunion Parkway (both sides of I-55). If I were on the board of any private school in the area, we'd be touring the dual campus Memphis private schools to see if it would work. The first one to realize this wins.

The Gluckstadt corridor (not just Gluckstadt proper, but the Lake Caroline area) has the lowest percentage of private school families in the area - even Pearl and Canton have more. The only reason for that is access.

That's laughable. Not to mention that area revolves around Memphis, a city in ANOTHER STATE.

If you don’t think the masses are heading east and north, ask Gluckstadt, Flora, and North “Stankin” Rankin residents.
The 'masses' certainly are. The typical sheep-follow-the-leader morons who continually lose equity on their houses by playing that game over and over and not seeing the big picture. There comes a time when it's not sustainable.

Old news. The fall of Jackson accelerated and bottomed out many years ago. Everybody understands what the deal is when you enter Hinds County. You act like there's just this current dam break of people getting out of the immediate suburbs. It's not.

As long as Rankin itself maintains decent governance and keeps the focus on safety and stamping out crime, it'll be alright. Close enough to get to Jackson and has the amenities needed. It won't be as nice as Madison, but it will be viable. There's some crummy parts, but there's really nowhere in Rankin County where a normal person would be fearful. Except maybe Lakeshore Park on a Saturday night when all the 'teens' show up and are out looking for trouble.

MRA certainly could benefit from a little more land and better access, same as JA. Although I don't think MRA should venture far....they need to stay close to Ridgeland. Some things are just about practicality. While they are at it can they finally get the airport out of the heart of residential Madison? Geez that needed to be done 15 years ago but of course they Mississippi'ed that up.

As far as way out in Gluckstadt, I don't know that another private school is needed for that type of people. I think Tri-County and Canton serve them fine.
