Yeah, I want to go back to the good ole days of having sports writers and a computer picking the championship game or champion .... LOL.

Playoffs and meaningful bowl games are the best thing about college football right now IMO.
So you’re saying BYU wasn’t really the best team in 1984?🧐🤔😬

Why do Championship games have to go away?

Its completely independent of the CFP.

Just because it doesnt determine an "Automatic Qualifier" doesn't mean it has to go away.

What do "the majority" want?
Its pretty clear its more money.

ADs, Coaches, Players, Fans.
They have all made it pretty clear.

Did you see all the complaints from "the majority" about "tradition" when the B1G destroyed the PAC-12, expanded to the West Coast all to make "more money"?
I must have missed it.

The celebration about the $1b media deal seemed to drown it out.
The majority want more money, and most want it without sacrificing the history and tradition of the B1G. Destroying the Pac-12 was on the leadership of that conference. The B1G didn't ignitate it. The B1G took advantage of a crumbling league before anyone else did.

IMO, there are limits to how much money one can make and still be happy. More money, more problem. I believe in tradition/ History as it has some value to it. Money doesn't. I'm all for 16 playoff format, but nothing more. I still think bowl games have a place. With close to 140 FBS teams, there should be bowl games available to teams who are successful but didn't make the playoffs. I'm not a fan of 40+ bowl game. Reduce it down to 25/30 max and you'll still get quality matchups. People will watch these bowl game just as they watch the playoffs. I'm not interested in watching 6-6 Jacksonville State against a 6-6 New Mexico.

Make Championship games part of the playoff system.
Lose them and you're considered losing a playoff game.
The Championship playoff invites are given based on the regular season ending poll before conference playoffs
and winning a conference championship is auto entry while losing that championship game is auto elimination.
Have the Four P-4 title holders , then the 4 best of the G-6 are invited with any Independent program be able to take a G-6 spot if they;re ranked higher.

we've seen teams penalized for the CFP game for one thing. For a second, there is no longer a requirement for them for post season play and they add risk to the team from standings and injury. I personally would prefer to do away with them and move the CFP up

Three bowls already died this year… There are more to come and there ain’t no stopping that dying
This.
While having live content to fill TV space is fine the production costs, Team participation costs/Bowl payouts, Venue costs, dismissal gate ticket sales, etc. will be the nail in the coffin for many Bowls.

Teams also get benefit for winning a championship game.

Without a CCG, Ohio State is the #1 seed in the CFP this year and not Indiana.

I dont really care about keeping or getting rid of them.
And agree with moving the CFP up.

Just dont necessarily agree with the B1G narrative that CCG NEED to go.

The link reports that the Big Ten has circulated for internal comment a draft proposal in which conference championships and automatic qualifiers would be abolished and the CFP field expanded to 24, with at least one coming from the group of 6. If the proposal had been in effect in 2025, there would have been 7 SEC teams, 6 Big Ten teams, 5 Big Twelve, 3 ACC, 2 from the group of 6, and Notre Dame.https://www.espn.com/college-footba...eyes-24-team-cfp-no-league-championship-games

Ohio State's president Ted Carter discussed playoff expansion last week. Ted talks about protecting student athletics and the Army-Navy game.

The real rea$on Ted wants the college football playoff expanded and B1G championship game eliminated is Ted wants another Ohio State home game against a quality opponent. In fiscal 2025 (football 2024), Ohio State earned $67,018,201 from football ticket sales. The previous year, the figure was $47,853,040. Why the gap? Ohio State hosted a CFP game in one year and not the other.

Here is what Ted said:

"I do believe there's going to be some level of expansion. And whatever that's going to be going to 16 going to 24, going right to 24, let's just make sure we get it right and for all the right reasons.

"And part of it may be the scheduling and what we need to make sure that we're doing is we're protecting the student athletes.

"In other words, adding another game because you want to have more teams in it is not the right answer. So something's got to give. More than likely, you know, conference championships come off the table, and of course I'm going to be a little bit biased here. I want to protect the Army-Navy game. That is still America's game. It's got to have its own time slot. Army-Navy are not likely to be in one of those 12, 16, or 24. So we've got to figure all that out and get it right.

"And, of course, you know between the SEC and the Big Ten, they're the biggest influencers in those decisions."

At first, I thought Carter's claim that the Army-Navy game is "America's game" was just the result of Carter being a retired rear admiral and the former superintendent of the Naval Academy. But, in fact, the game was among the 20 most-watched college football games in 2025 even though TV viewership was down from the year before. Right now the game has little competition in its time slot --and Carter clearly wants to keep it that way. https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.c...he,from a France-England FIFA World Cup match.
