No. BYU never made it far in the tournament when Pope was there. In fact, he only made it to the tournament twice in the five seasons he was there and they still didn't fire him.

Lol, Dybantsa has had free rein all year but we’ll see. They had to go to overtime to beat a bad Colorado team at home so I wouldn’t bet on it.

But still, beating Troy and Illinois >>> losing to Saint Peters, Kansas state, Kansas State and Oakland.
The wins over duke, Florida and Gonzaga are better wins than anything Cal had since 2019 and Cal had boat loads of NBA talent and lottery picks.
can i ask u a question, like genuinely when you talk about cal having better talent do you use that as a reason to take away from him, because i promise you duke and byu dont care about all that just because they have nba guys
nba guys to those programs are what otega and aberdeen is for us

Both can be true…
1. Cal did a phenomenal job getting multiple highly ranked guys to to commit to and play for UK.
2. While having all that aforementioned talent, Cal did absolutely nothing good with them the last 5ish years of his tenure at UK…including the 2 worst losses in history for UK in the NCAA tournament…while having vastly “superior talent”.
i dont get the point of criticizing someone MORE just because they bring in better guys
its like yes i get it if you have better guys you should finish better, but i applaud him coming in with a porsche every year
Feel bad for him obviously.. but i wouldn't mind seeing BYU get knee-capped by this. They're doing everything they can to buy a title and I think they are doing a lot of the right things to win. So this season going down the toilet would be beneficial in keeping them from jumping into the scene.

Pope and BYU’s first year in the BIG12, they faired pretty well with zero bought players. All this would require you to actually know stuff about basketball, which you clearly do not.

If I have exponentially more talent on a team I coach, yet they consistently underperform and lose, then the coach (me) deserves criticism. I honestly don’t understand why that’s confusing.
I also did not think most years that Cal was a great recruiter when it came to building a roster with a well-balanced team. Now, when it came to recruiting amazing individual athletic talent, he was absolutely one of the best. However, to be such an incredible recruiter in that regard, I thought he often failed to recruit elite skilled basketball players who complimented one another to make a balanced team. Instead, he often recruited amazing athletes who played basketball.

the only reason the argument confuses me is because a bunch of people made fun of cals team last year only making a sweet 16 while having a lot of talent right, and those same people praised us for making the sweet 16 while having less talent
it just confuses me why thats a thing, like is cal just supposed to not try to bring in the best players
matter of fact i thing one of our BIGGEST problems is that pope evades so much stuff because he DOESNT bring in nba dudes
if we had this record with caleb wilson and lets say a mikel brown, people would crap on him, but since we arent overwhelming talent wise no one seems to care

No Cal done less with more, Pope did more with less last season. It really isn't that hard to understand.

so duke last year got to a final 4, and everyone on this board craps on it just because they have nba guys, but if they ran out there with our roster and made a final 4 it would be impressive??

Some of you guys continue to dismiss how good last years team was at full strength. Yes making the sweet 16 was acceptable with all the injuries. But at full strength that team was a Final 4 threat. In fact it had wins over 2 of the final 4 teams.
Definitely didn’t do that. Just everyone blames pope for injuries on here. It’s hilarious
