It's one week, how much money are they really losing out on?
It's worse for the coaches and kids who already have vacations planned because they assumed this would be deadweek from years ago. Now they are left scrambling or in some cases, will have to sit out the first game or miss a once in a lifetime vacation. I don't understand how it's a 10 year rollout for shot clocks in basketball compared to less than 6 months for the start of the season to be moved. This is just not a good decision for this season.
At $15 an hour minimum wage, $600. But they also might not get hired at all since many seasonal jobs require a commitment of 10-12 weeks .
That's pre tax and assuming 40 hours per week. I also haven't ever heard of a part time summer job requiring a 10-12 week contract.
It is one of the first question for a seasonal job: What would be the last day your could work? In the past, you could get away with missing the last week before school started because less kids are on camp or at the pool. Now if you are ending with 2 weeks left, employers could look at other options. It stinks for the kids because less summer is not better for anyone.
Although not necessarily clearly intentional, it did deflect some attention ASAP off the private/public results from the '25 playoffs.

Because the last proposal involving districts they (Roxana Liberated Army) had almost a two year window before it went into effect...the proposal passed, then once everyone got a look at what it would be really like the membership had plenty of time to kill it. Which they did. This time they purposely set a shortened time line.
Hearing we should expect multiple "anti" playoff expansion proposals as soon as possible
I'm all for going back to 6 classes.
Is the postseason only for teams that are going to make a deep run? Because then there are a lot of teams that make the playoffs that should be barred from making the playoffs
I'm not sure I am reading this post correctly. I can't tell where the sarcasm ends, so if I am getting the wrong interpretation, my bad. But I do think that while it is more a reality in the CSL that vacations having a bigger impact than other communities, I think it is foolish to ignore that especially because I am not sure what the rush is. This is why I brought up shot clocks, which have been coming for almost a decade. I am going on a vacation this summer and I had the tickets bought before Thanksgiving, so I do not think it was foolish to assume there are players/families and coaches who are in the same boat. This was talked about between coaches when they first announced the change in schedule in December. To move the start of the year around with less than 6 months does seem like a factor that shouldn't be outright ignored. I do think if the playoff expansion holds (Edgy already hinting it might not), then starting on that Wednesday is better preparation for kids and for week 1, so this is the long term correct decision.I know, right! This is the exact argument that the Indiana State Association makes for including everyone in the playoffs. A team that has struggled all year might get it together in week 10!
The 2023 state championship Roadrunners started 0-4 and finished the regular season 4-5. I expect some 2-7 team to set a new precedent.
IC will be in the hunt every year in 3A no matter their record.
Here is your list of non-playoff teams from 2025 in CCL that would be in playoffs for 2026. Quick glance, might have missed one.
Not if you're getting cash from the pickup truck at weeks end after putting in another pool. Corporate jobs in your teens is the literal death of your soul before it ever got to live.
I'm not so sure this system lasts more than 1 year.
Some jobs, especially those that are part time will only hire high school students now if they're able to commit to a minimum number of hours a week. For example, if they work at Jewel or Marianos, they have to be able to commit to at least 15 hours a week.
If the member schools are smart, they will come up with a new system entirely. It'd be bad to go back to the way things were because then that likely means the publics and privates are together and we all know how that will go.
Its gonna take 4a and lower for a 2-7 ccl team to make a run. At some point they will run into a good CCL team in the upper classes.
That is what I am saying. As an extension point, if coaches want to blow up the current format with the expanded playoffs and have something new, next year is the perfect year to start thinking about separating public and private schools.
Most were already coaching during that time, and most schools don't give extra playoff pay...it's "built in". I'm betting schools won't change anything at all.Lost in all these discussions (and in the proposal itself) is the financial fairness aspect of it relative to schools increasing their coaching stipends to reflect the additional week's worth of work. Not only are all coaches beginning a week earlier than in the past, but now many more coaches will be coaching an extra week because of the increased number of playoff qualifiers.
I'd love to know how many (if any) schools will increase their coaching stipends because of the extra week of coaching at the front end.
I suspect the answer will be even fewer than the number that have increased it proportionately when their schools have had their seasons extended in the past through playoff participation.

It truly is amazing what people are concerned about with the season starting a whole week earlier. First it was summer jobs and vacations, now it's coaches stipends and being paid a few more pennies for an extra week.
