This post seems an overreaction which happens when you see such a sudden downturn like this. Lute came here from Long Beach State and had a great career after establishing himself here first. Ben came here with an even better resume from the lower levels. At this point we can't draw any conclusions yet.

For Iowa to be relevant in BB… I mean what the hell? It’s been since the Dr Tom days and Lute Olsen days since they were relevant … just pathetic
We did win the 2022 B1G Championship.

Even Lute had to have his “McDonald’s game…it’s all part of growing up..

7-11. 7th
9-9. 5th
12-6. 4th
5-13. 8th

Those are Lute's first 4 years at Iowa with Big Ten record and finish. Maybe let's give BM some time here. If OP cannot find any positivity about the potential of this coach then I don't know if there is much else to discuss. Tied for 8th with almost twice the number of teams. I'm ready to enjoy the possible ride and I'm looking forward to see how the rest of this season plays out.

Let's also remind everyone that Dr Tom never finished higher than tied for 2nd in the Big Ten regular season. Yes Dr Tom had his great first year run but he didn't set the Big Ten on fire either.

We won the Big Ten Tourney in 2001, 2006 and 2022. Regular season can be skewed by schedule. The tourney is a better metric.

Any team can get hot for a few games. A regular season conference title is far more meaningful.
While I enjoy all the hell out of seeing Iowa win the conference tournament in the rare times it happens, I agree with this statement.

And many more times than not, the teams that get hot in their conference tourneys are teams that need a bunch of wins there or even need to win it outright to make the NCAAT.

Most of the "locks" enter these tournaments with the mindset that its just a stopover point on the way to the main destination (the Big Dance).

I wanted to believe in Ben. Now I'm having doubts. Give him another year to straighten it out. But I fear he's not ready for B1G time basketball, like Hoiberg or Otzelberger.
Let's maybe take a tiny step back from the ledge here.

Am I very disappointed in the last 3 games, even if one of them was ultimately a win? Hell yeah I am.

But lets look at the facts here ....

If they can get them, this team is only 2 victories away from 10 conference and 20 overall wins. In the coach's first season at the helm and playing in a major conference with a mid-major roster. Entering the @ MD game, this team was a damn near sure lock to be in the Big Dance this March.

If the school (+ donors) can find him some money to upgrade & improve the roster to more the P5 level, Coach McCollum is gonna do some things here at Iowa. I fully believe that. You don't just miraculously luck your way into his prior success, no matter the level you were competing at.
