Callahan recruited so well he went 27-22. Bravo.

Here’s his recruiting stats you can drool over:
Average 23rd, High 8, Low 35.

2 whole whopping ranking positions better than Pelini’s entire tenure (25th) on average. Tell me how much taller THIS midget of Callahan is.
Pelini’s best teams had Callahan’s recruits.

Fans that hate Bo just hate that he didn't want to give us all handjobs. That is all, that is it. Bo would kill it with the portal and 22 year old players.

It made me sick to my stomach today when I saw that Rhule makes about the same salary as the Seahawks coach who just won the Super Bowl. MacDonald has a brilliant system and nearly all players thrive in that system.

This is the difference between great ownership like The Allen family and an incompetent leadership team at UNL. It is so frustrating. And I agree with those talking about Penn State week. That entire week culminating in the Minnesota debacle sent him down a toilet I don’t think he can recover from. I hope I am wrong, but I don’t think I am.

They won’t ever admit it, that’s why they change the topic or the scope every time stats and facts override their narrative.

Sure it ain’t 😉
Meanwhile Pelini won 9+ every year with his recruits AND Callahan’s. Callahan (your tallest midget) couldn’t even sniff Pelini’s jockstrap. Sure pick the weirdest hill to die on. RIP.

I liked Pelini and he certainly looks like an ace coach these days compared to the garbage we’ve had. I think he is the best coach we’ve had since TO. My concern with Bo was that his defense started to get exposed a bit. Similar to Pete Carroll, who was a defensive genius, and won championships at both levels. Bo and Pete‘s defenses started to give up quite a few points and it felt like we were not going to go to the next level.

Those 9+ wins look awfully attractive right now though. My guess is a lot of non-Nebraska fans would point to Bo’s tenure as the last time we were good. Suh and the defense were World class.

I’m not gonna die on a hill for Bo like he was the next Osborne or Saban, but he absolutely was our best coach since Osborne retired. I’m not even upset he got fired, I’m upset at the path Eichorst chose. Only 3 programs won 9+ games every year from 2008-2014. Alabama, Oregon, Nebraska. No excuse for the hire Eichorst made when Nebraska was on that pedestal.
I do feel like Bo plateaued at Nebraska. Bo couldn’t win big games. But at least he won all the others, something Callahan, Solich, Riley, Frost, and Rhule cannot say. I would love to return to a Pelini era floor for another 9 year stretch. 9+ wins every year at minimum? Heck yeah! Because if you can get 10, like Bo did a couple times, you’re in the playoffs. Especially in the B1G.

Just because he was better than Riley, Frost and Rhule doesn't mean he was a good recruiter.

He got some good recruits, but what was needed to be a consistent Top 10-15 team.... he just didn't have it.
The firing of BO was more complicated than that.

1. You can't fire him in a 9 win year. (If you were going to fire him you do it in 2013 where you can say he had lost control and threatened the AD to fire him.

2. You can't tell fans we got rid of a 9 win coach and replaced him with a much worse version. That's when you go all in with the Christ Peterson, Sweater vest, Someone with proven track records or have won champions.

3. In a job security thing it's really dumb to fire a winning coach as an AD even if you don't like him. You're not on the hot seat as an AD until you hire your guy, (or extend the current guy). Eichorst could have been here a lot longer if he just stayed away from Bo until the bottom fell out. We all would have grumbled but he would have been laughing his way to cashing his undeserved money.

They typically do enough to build up our hopes in the offseason (but not actually enough to win). This is the 1st year in as long as I can remember that they lost the offseason. The O/U right now would be 5.5 games and I would take the under. There is no legit hope for next year and we are only in February. This is unprecedented in my lifetime.

If Pelini did just as well as Callahan then Frost & Riley did just as well as Pelini.

Frost was only 2 ranking positions worse than Pelini and Riley was a whole whopping 6 behind Pelini.

Maybe you're not saying Pelini was a good recruiter, but to me, it is coming off that way.

Adding to it is Rhule hasn't spoken to the media at the podium in 45 days at this point, I didn't know he could go this long without talking. Other than the odd YouTube interview he's been radio silent.

someone got smart

1) You can when your coach basically begs to be fired the year prior and when he acts like a complete fool on the sideline.

2) I agree, but no one thinks they're actually going to bring in someone worse than what they just let go.

3) Same response as #2.

No, he just didnt need to be a jerkoff.

Cig may hate fans, but he doesnt openly act like it.
Ha...so you are okay with someone PRETENDING to love you, you just don't really want to know the truth?

I get that...I mean it is why people stay married.

Come on. I liked Bo, wanted him hired and loved what he did with our defenses. Those were some good years. It’s OK to acknowledge Bo acted like a jerk, worse than he should have at times. Most players and coaches know the fans help pay the bills and there’s just an understanding that you shouldn’t hate on your fans publicly.

Your original point was Pelini wasn’t a good recruiter and then referenced Callahan specifically saying “Bo’s recruiting didn’t come close to Callahan’s” like he was a savant at recruiting. Stats showed he’s hardly any better. I debunked that for you. So keep that same energy with disrespecting Callahan as well.

You then shifted your scope to Pelini had his success from Callahan’s players yet he had the same level of success his entire tenure, so that was also debunked.

I get it, you have a personal grudge against Bo. It’s obvious. I also specifically talked about recruiting in the Big Ten. Callahan didn’t recruit in the Big Ten, so referencing him was completely out of scope, but of course you had to change the scope to fit your narrative that wasn’t even close to what you thought it was…because the stats I presented debunked it.

I know you like to play to the extremes when you debate, but I didnt need Pelini to love me. He didn't even need to outwardly say he liked our fan base. Just don't act like a d*ck.

AND if you're going to act like a d*ck, then you better be winning a lot of games, finish in the Top 10 and dont get blown out.

Yes, just like marriage. If she doesnt act like a b*tch, you tolerate dinner sometimes being mac & cheese with hotdogs or only getting sex once per week. But if she does act like a b*tch then the sex better be good + frequent and a hot home-cooked meal.

I don't care what the coaches do, just win games.

And, he never really hated on the fans publicly, but there was that recording that was leaked. Maybe he did say something publicly too, I don't know, I don't care. Rhule hates us too, Frost hated us, TO hated us...I don't need them to like me. They are not my buddy.

No, I never referenced Callahan. I only brought him up after you did. So you didnt debunk me for anything (yet).

Again, I never brought up Pelini's success with Callahan recruits.

I know you're mixing me up with another poster, but feel free to start over in this response and we'll go from there.

Haha. Except we dont.

You were okay with Pelini being a d*ck while having blowout losses, beating nobody of substance nor finishing in the Top 10. I was not.

Therefore you would tolerate a b*tch wife who won't make hot meals or rarely let you have sex with her. I wouldn't.

I'm not sure we could disagree more.

I did not think he was a dick, he was never a dick to me.

I loved when he smoked Mizzo and OSU back to back. I loved when he beat Michigan and The buckeyes. I loved when he shut down that Washington QB and when he shut down MSU.

I hated all his losses. I hate all the losses of every coach we have.

Settling for Pelini would’ve been like settling for Ferentz. Never going to win anything important. I loved the direction at the beginning of his tenure but he got lazy. He ended up getting embarrassed by every good opponent on the schedule and the teams we should have beat easily became last second close wins. Him telling the fans to f themselves was just the cherry on top. The rest of his career after NU shows what he became. Remember the second stint at LSU with all that talent? Fired immediately.

I forgot the other argument against Bo by the crazies..."He won a lot of close games"

Which, ironically is now what a lot of the fans **** about with Rhule. "He wins those 4th quarter games!"

I think it will be that game vs Ohio U. If that game is a loss or even some lame *** close win...he is done.
Wow you guys are more pessimistic than me. I think the wheels really come off in week 4 when we go visit Michigan State. They are not an elite program, hell they aren’t even a top half of the Big Ten program with a 1st year coach. I don’t care that Fitz has experience from Northwestern. In year 4 of Rhule, if you are trying to sell progress, that is an absolute must win game. I expect us to lose by at least 10

It is shocking that Bo could not...

Recruit
Develop
Coach
Hire Good Coaches
Stop the run
Keep his cool
Love the fans

But still could average over 9 wins a year and make it to two or three conference championship games.

God, just imagine if he was good at anything?!?!?!

Well, in like 7 seasons Bo made 3 conference championship games.

I have no idea if ferentz has ever even made one.

Also, Bo+Portal, would have been deadly.

In 7 years, Kirk finished in the Top 10, three times. Something Bo couldn't even do 1 time.

Pretty sure the Big10 didnt have conference divisions nor conference championship games in Kirk's first 10 years or so.
