Maybe Ben should shake uo the playing time a bit given the next seven games.

I dont get Sage sitting on the bench unless is sick or hurting and Iowa needs a big bad , Try Jirak some instead of Folgers
This one is a complete mystery to me. Sage has been light years better than Koch and Folgueiras, and WTF is up with deciding that Hausen is the answer all of a sudden. BM is looking for shooters and keeps his second best 3 point shooter on the bench with only 9 minutes of play tonight. Instead he goes with Koch, Hausen, AF, and Howard who are .33, .33, .27,and .25 in conference 3pt percentage. Makes zero sense unless Sage was injured or sick.

look at the remaining schedule
I’ve looked at it plenty. Iowa can win any of those games* but they obviously need to play a lot better than they did at Maryland tonight. They definitely won’t go 7-0, but I wouldn’t be shocked if they won 4 or 5.

*yes, even Michigan - look how they’re doing tonight.

Still got some production from him, didn't we? And, in less time...dude. ;)
In no way am I blaming him for the loss, but if you have to take 8 shots to get 6 points that's not really a positive. Keeping Sage on the bench during those 14 minutes is a total mystery to me.

Bullcrap…. The Hawks reaped what they sewed tonight…there defense looked vintage Fran and the ball wasn’t falling…They barely beat NW the other night…They just aren’t playing well and the refs aren’t responsible for that.

I love that everyone is writing them off after one ice cold shooting night and retarded officials.

Iowa wins Saturday. Book it.
Iowa has backed themselves into a corner on thus one…Purdue at home, Nebby twice, Michigan at home and Wisky at Madison…
Honestly, 10-10 comes into play.. and dies a 10-10 team who’s “best win” was a roadie at Washington have the cred to get into the Tournament in March??
I think Iowa has to win win 3 of the 5 games I listed above to get into the NCAA…it can be done but Iowa is going to have to play better than they have this week, for sure. 12 conference wins and a couple of Quad 1 wins might be minimal.

Not the outcome that many expected for sure. Didn't let the result ruin my big glob of Fudge Swirl. Plenty of games to be played. 🍨
You should maybe consider cutting back on the fudge swirl. Maybe jump on the scale for motivation.

Spot on. I like Hausen off the bench in short stretches to add a spark and he seems well suited for that role. The offense became chucking up 3s with him taking most of them and missing. Sage represents the future and always plays productively.

Ben seems rigid in sticking to his set rotation for the most part. Jirak played early on against the lesser competition but Ben seems very reluctant to give him any experience in the Big 10. He represents another piece of the future whether we bring in a big from the portal or not.

Ben's a good coach, but I agree that, like most coaches is very change averse. Rotations become almost sacrosant and change only occurs out of forced necessity. I don't understand why Koch is getting 30+ for very little production, why AF Is always the first guy off the bench even though his conference shooting is terrible, and why Sage is still languishing on the bench when all he does is produce whenever he's out there. The best starting five today would be Stirtz, Banks, Manyawu, Sage, and Combs with the first 3 getting 30+ every game. Koch needs to come off the bench along with AF.

People complain a lot about Jan over on the women's side and she does have some head scratching moments, but she also seems more open to adjusting rotations on the fly when things aren't working, or it becomes apparent that a change in rotations can help the team.

And Fears for MSU will dig and flail and get phantom calls while they swallow their whistles on the actual fouls that Stirtz draws. This league has the worst refs in the country.

They’re just awful and sadly, probably better now than 15, 20, 30 years ago.

At least now, we have some video reviews. Sure it might take five minutes for a review that was clearly obviously off of MD and Iowa had to use one of their two coaches challenges, but at least they eventually got the one review correct.

You make good points. I thought at the time officiating seemed one of several reasons Lute left. He could have built a monster here under different circumstances. We just have bad officiating now under different conditions. As the announcers said we need to put a time limit on the reviews. This new technology and rules allows officials to interject themselves into the game stopping play. What hasn't changed you can count on the Big Ten not to get things right when it comes to officiating.

Very glad another poster mentioned in reference to Koch that he might have some recurring health issues which I had never thought about. Ben will keep that behind the scenes if so. Cooper plays really hard on the defensive end in my book regardless. And that requires some tweaking. Cooper did sit for most of the second half and for reasons unknown at least to me Ben inserted Hausen instead of Sage.

I probably need to listen Ben's postgame and just haven't had the chance. This perhaps represents a new development for Ben and we all need to have patience with Koch playing as a freshman regardless of his health condition.

How many shot fakes did we make? Md didn't bite. We missed a lot of shot opportunities by doing those so often. The ball would get to a player on the perimeter, and rather than shoot, we get a shot fake and then stuck. Even when the ball swung from side to side, a shot fake and a wasted shot opportunity. I remember Wade doing it around the basket and that's ok, but constantly around the perimeter? Put the shot up. If it's blocked it's blocked, or maybe draw a foul. Cringeworthy.

As the famous saying goes, "You miss 100% of the shots you Don't Take".
