Stirtz and Banks are pretty much the only ones ready to play. Some decent contributions from Cam, Coop, and Sage.
Alvaro, Combs, and Howard are struggling.
Have to find a way to stop dribble penetration and hit the boards.

Howard and combs gave us nothing. Folgarius playing soft whining too much. Sage getting abused off the dribble. Just awful effort from majority of the team.
If Iowa was getting away with all that in the first half, the game would swing hard the other way in the 2nd.
Bet it doesn't tonight since Iowa wasn't the beneficiary earlier.

People on this board complain too much about referees. Sometimes justified, most time not.
Maryland gets to the rim, rebounds, and makes just enough threes to threaten you. Really poor defensive effort so far.
Still don't know why Hausen can't even get 1 minute of action
They are not good on ball defenders in the middle of the floor. It has been like that all season.
I just don't understand why Hausen can't get a quick minute or two, to see if he can provide anything, in these slow starting first halves that Iowa looks really lethargic and unfocused in?
And if its because defense, well, the rest of his teammates aren't exactly protecting the opposing basket with their lives.

I didn't think that Sage got abused too bad. Combs has had a rough night all around so far.
Had the exact same thoughts. Looks like Fran era right now with way more limited offense. Not worried yet but inexcusable 1st half.
And if Ben brings him in he won't let him get into the flow of the game if he misses first shot or gets beat on a drive quick yank

Lucky to be only down by 5. You let a hungry team hang around (or lead late) and your asking for trouble. That said, the blocks are the difference in the game right now. We started out with multiple players scoring (trading baskets like Fran teams) but now it looks like we're going right back to needing Stirtz to take over again.
Maryland has a couple of very good players. That guy Metcalf is a very good rim protector. I think a couple of times we've passed up good inside looks and ended up not scoring.
Not sure what is going on with Howard and Fulgieras airballs -they are better players than that.
You realize Coits had several 30+ point games, and 43 in a game earlier off the bench.He's not getting a "career night" against Iowa....
It isn't the number of fouls in that first half, its the quality of the whistles. Or not calling things that seemed fairly obvious.

Agreed. But refereeing in this game has been anything but a “joke.” Generally, people with less years of watching basketball complain more.
Gotta hope for a repeat of the Washington game 2nd half. They need to stop doing this to themselves though.
