I have no information about this, but is it possible Sha kind of knows Hines might not be in SO next year? Makes no sense why he doesn't play more.
On one hand it’s so illogical you may be right. On the other hand it’s just 1 of many illogical decisions that are being made.
Really makes our coach look inept. Payne was solid tonight. But what is Sha doing with Godswill? I thought maybe I missed something and that Hines was in foul trouble. Nope. Only 2 fouls. Truly confusing.
Eh, there is no way Hines comes in and gives them anything close to what Zuby has the last two years on both ends of the court. But remember Zuby went there after a freshman season at a blue blood where he didn’t play. Was only a marginal contributor off the bench as a sophomore and then burst onto the scene last year as a junior after development and growth. Having a non-stop motor and work ethic helps.
He doesnt play more bc Sha mismanages foul trouble by sitting guys with 2 and Hines is a fouling machine. Hes at 6.5 per 40 in BE games.
So? I’ve had this argument in the past few weeks. Give 15-20 minutes at least. If he fouls out, he fouls out. Barely playing him is a joke. Him and Clark are the only two guys on the roster with legitimate talent
It’s interesting how Sha justifies starting the same 5 because he doesn’t want to ruffle feathers but keeps his must-keep freshman recruit glued to the bench.
Yeah I agree on playing Hines more. I just don’t think it’s why we collapsed tonight. Payne was very good.
AD needs to talk to Sha about only playing top 4 player 8 minutes. Not acceptable.
He’s maybe our best player. If Hines wasn’t sick, injured, or limited for disciplinary reasons, 8 minutes (when GW played 7) is outrageous.
And there is the issue. None of us know what is going on behind the scenes with a player and nor should we know. Trust the coach to do what is best. He probably had very good reason for what we saw with player rotations. Sha has more hoops coaching skills than 99.99% of the posters on this forum and that I will take to the bank. Wait my bad. Make that 100%.
i was so exited we got naj, even moreso when i saw him play. but imo, his play has gone way down. overall i liked payne more yesterday. Naj looked great making those 2 buckets. I would not have sat him after that And he did have 4 rebs. I would have sat him 1st half 2 fouls. but it seems something beyond the court is a problem.
Putting your shoulder in the defenders face and spinning to your strong hand for a banked jump hook is not so difficult. the other team does it. our guys dont.
And two of the entry passes from our guards in the first half were so bad for so many reasons. pkus we dont post up strong and we miss them if they do. prob cause someone is dribbling.
His play has gone down or stayed steady because Shaheen doesn’t value the center position. He uses Hines as a rebounder and shot blocker despite showing some good offensive skill as a true freshman. Hines is only doing what is being asked of him. And that’s on the coaches
Regarding our bigs, did anyone else notice that stretch in the first half when Hines came in and on three plays in a row, our guards pitifully attempted to pass the ball to him, each time resulting in turnovers or broken plays. Question: how is it humanly possible that we are SO PUTRID AWFUL USELESS INEPT or any other descriptor you prefer, at feeding the post?
In each situation I was screaming at the tv because even a casual fan knows that is NOT how you feed the post. The positioning and angle etc was all wrong and it was common sense level obvious. How are we THAT bad? Does Sha not teach those basics?
I watched the Uconn SJU game and they are able to feed the post with ease. Why is this rocket science for us? How can it be anything other than poor inept coaching??
And nobody can convince me we don't have the tools to work with. Hines is a big solid center, physically on par with the top centers in the league like Ejiofor and Tarris Reed. I have to blame the coaches for not teaching and putting our players in a good position to accomplish easy entry passes.

Sadly, imo, hines is not our best player, if I am to judge what i see on the court. And I think payne has been the better center quite often recently.
We went on a momentum shifting run when Hines came in. Even the announcers said Hines was taking over the game. Yes, each of our centers has had good stretches. But I think what most posters are concerned with is why remove Hines right as he is starting to have success and move the momentum in our favor?
Our coach is too reactive to who the other team has in. Let Hines work!!! He only had two fouls. I agree there's no excuse for this. And it's not like Payne was having one of his Marquette games. He was sort of average this game. And he's not an offensive threat at all.
Not to mention, why in all hell is Godswill seeing ANY minutes in a tight game where neither center is in foul trouble. Especially in the second half. He is a 0 in all statistical categories aside from fouls. That was mind-blowing to me.

Yes, as bad an entry as yiu will see. awful pass, awful (impossible) position for the passer and center wasnt open anyway. dont like how hines posts, and all the high picks sure dont help. Naj's moving pick on Simpins made 3 was a killer too.
I didnt see a reason why naj was pulled. and life is too short to watch the replay to find out lol.
Somebody is gonna get in this kid's ear and tell him Seton Hall isn't using you right and is holding back your success.. AND THEY WOULDN'T BE WRONG!! I'd be amazed if he is back next year. I sure as hell wouldn't be! Sha has mismanaged him from the beginning.
There's a part of me that would love to see what he could do on a team that would use him correctly, like a UConn (although it would be painful). I hope he stays in the big east so Sha can see first hand his own failures and shape up

For sure, Hines should have gotten more minutes. But he has a tough time chasing their 3-point shooting big/s. Payne can really guard most positions. That said, no way Hines should not get at least 12 minutes a game.
The entry passes were worse than CYO. Telegraphed, poor angle and screaming to be easily stolen.
I think that happens as soon as they sign anywhere else. and since they (the people in their heads) are moneygrubbers, er agents, it isnt even illegal.

Entire state of affairs is a joke with college athletics.
I hope we can keep all of our guys, particularly Budd, Hines and Simpkins. Trey is athletic but turns the ball over too much, however he does shoot 83% from the foul line. Mike Williams is likely gone - started out strong but he and Sha seem to be on different pages. Sha initially touted Mike as our best defender, not sure what happened.
I truly don’t see Hines coming back to play for Sha. I would be pleasantly surprised.
Godswill did not play bad. He was active defensively in the paint when he was in.

Since the start of conference play, Hines leads the team in offensive rating, defensive rating, and defensive box plus minus. He’s second in offensive box plus minus. Hines averages more points per 100 possessions than Payne, more assists per 100 possessions than Payne, more blocks per 100 possessions than Payne, and the same number of rebounds per 100 possessions.
The only area of the game where Hines struggles is minutes. He would be talked about as one of the best freshmen in the country if his minutes were swapped with Steph. How he has been used is, frankly, crazy unless, as I mentioned earlier, there are injury or discipline issues that we don’t know about.

I disagree. I feel like Sha has a number of times tried to have the team dump the ball low to Hines and our guards have turned it over. ASM and Simpkins are particularly awful in that phase of the game.
I also think Hines is not fighting for position like he was early in the year.
He shouldn't have to fight for position on every possession. There are numerous sets they can run to get him the ball in good position. We must not have any of those in our play book.
Now that a bid is a pipe dream I would start playing Hines & Payne together for a few minutes. Would potentially help against St john & Uconn who do so much damage inside & on the offensive boards.
