Everyone should be rooting for St. Johns. One it makes our metrics better. Two, its not Uconn. And three, Pitino's legit. He paid his dues with the UK fans, especially when he gave us like 12 wins during the Cal era lolol.
Who in the world would be rooting for UConn, especially as a UK fan?! If so, turn your fan card in!

Theres still too many fans who just loathe Pitino. I get it back in the 2000s.. but enough time has passed. Dude has a legit case to be made for the GOAT college coach simply for how many places he wins at. For all the dick-slurping Coach K gets, he won at ONE program, and we all know how much help he got.

Pitino got zero help at UK, at UofL, at Iona, in Greece, and at SJU. Hes had to earn it all the way.

Hes just.. kind of sleazy lolol

love it when the “foul for two minutes and hope rhey miss” strategy works so well. Couldn’t happen to a better bunch.

Yeah, I'm local to St. John's so I like to see them do well. But this is one of the easiest choices a UK fan has had to make on who to root for in a neutral game. A team we beat with our former coach who I think we all like again (lol) against UConn who we all hate and Hurley who's a prick.

Don’t forget he took Providence to the 1987 FF as well.

Nice! I almost went there. Chose Manhattan College cause the babes were a little better and I wanted to be on the subway line. But have a lot of friends that went to SJU and always root for them. @The_Answer1313_rivals went there is believe.

Had he never left UK he would rank way up there. I'm still not sure if he could have outdone Rupp though.

Yep forgot about Providence. Makes him look even better because Providence is another no-name basketball program along with Iona, Greece, and Loserville.

I kind of appreciate that hes proving to win in all different environments. Euro leagues? Check. Mid majors? Yep. Kentucky' little brother? Even them. I do think he adds another title or two if he stays at UK for another 10 years.. but the fact that his winning is SO diverse.. idk, hes who im picking in their prime.

.. and I said prime for a reason. Hes full on crypt keeper mode now lol

Rupp did win 4 Championships between '48 and '58. That's with not getting invited in '50 despite finishing ranked #3 AP. Not being allowed to field a team in '53 and then turning down the tourney after having 3 players ruled ineligible (for being graduate students) for the tournament from the undefeated '54 team. Rupp went 268 and 35 over those 10 seasons.

For sure. I shouldn't discredit the greats. But people love the modern coaches, and, the tournament now is much more difficult to win. Winning from the 90s and on isnt easy.

Right! It was almost like they tried to slow Rupp down. Those northerners just hated seeing Kentucky winning basketball titles. Had that 1954 team been able to actually compete in the tournament, almost a damn certainty Rupp would have at least one more title. BS they were somehow ruled ineligible. They’ve hated us for years!

Here's a question for the night.. if Pitino were to win a title with St. Johns.. is he the GOAT coach? I think so.

Edit: I forgot providence.
Pitino can Coach - He’s perfect for StJohns job.
LOVED ST JOHNS DEFENSE. 40 minutes of Hell & it worked
Would love to see Pope try full court pressure- considering we got 4 guards & 4 forwards Counting Hawthorne.

Damn! I never knew that! The interwebs says that we chose to go to NIT instead. That doesn’t make sense, considering a team can play in BOTH! So, what’s the real reason we weren’t invited?! Could’ve actually won FOUR straight!
I know it wasn't just a matter of choice because I have heard an interview with Rupp complaining about not getting an invite.

"40 minutes of Hell" was Nolan Richardson. When Pitino was at UK he called it the "Mother in law defense" -total and constant harassment.
