I wouldn't mind if you got your *** beatI wouldn't mind it you transferred.
According to you anyway. lol
I'm hoping that like a lot of bigs in both the men's and women's game she will just take time. She seems to have lost her confidence on both ends of the floor right now and is basically unplayable at this point. She's slow, has really bad anticipation, and turns the ball over pretty frequently. We are going to need her as Heiden can't play 40 minutes and also is frequently in foul trouble. She actually seemed better earlier in the season.Because she's been terrible and I don't see potential in her
She has been terrible, but she's only a freshman so maybe cut her some slack. Whether she should be seeing the floor in anything but emergency situations is a question for Jan. If it's me that's a huge no. She's a net negative on the floor and Iowa simply can't afford that right now. She's often been the first player off the bench when Ava comes out. That's a recipe for failure, particularly when you have the second most efficient player on the team sitting on the bench with limited minutes. Jan might have thought this made sense at the beginning of the season given Layla's size relative to Houston but it makes zero sense today given the trajectory of these two players. There is nothing that Journey doesn't do much, much better today. Even with respect to turnovers rate, which have plagued this team all year, Journey is best and Layla is worst.Because she's been terrible and I don't see potential in her

2nd fave team. But close.Going out on a limb here but I'm guessing if she did transfer...you'll probably have a new favorite team.
Wrong on so many things, she doesn't need to hit the gym she is probably one of the strongest players what they need to hit and this includes all the players minus chit chat is their ball handling, their is no question they can all shoot that is why defenses are in their face challenging them to beat them off the dribble. We struggle taking the ball to the rim with any consistency without turning it over when we do get in the lane. Two things we lack consistent ball handling and taking that mid range jumper when defenses are playing off. Correct those 2 things and this team will compete with the Uconns and UCLA. Just think how much more effective Heiden would be even more than she is now if our guards could take people off the dribble then dish off to the post instead of just feeding the post from the outside. As far as the players you mentioned that need to transfer I think they all will be back with the exception of maybe Kenise with all the injuries she has had I could see her just moving on away from playing basketball. She needs to hit the gym and work on her shooting and passing. Good news is she has shown flashes of how good she could be. Bad news is she was absolutely horrible as a starter during tough road games. Let’s see how she bounces back.
Players I wouldn’t mind see transfer:
Layla H
Emely R
Kenise
Teagan
Um you are an idiot that is all there is to say.....Deal is one of the best passers on the team...and to want Layla to transfer shows you don't know ball at all..She needs to hit the gym and work on her shooting and passing. then you are a blind idiot who doesn't know ball AT ALL!Because she's been terrible and I don't see potential in her
Totally agree with Wright being the best shooter on the team.Chit-Chat is Iowa's best 3-point shooter. Jan needs to set screens for her so she can get more than a couple of shots a game. When they put a quick big on Chit-Chat, it shuts her scoring down, thus the need to burn the opponent with screens. Iowa's offense needs to be more diverse and, if I may borrow an apt phrase from Hayden Fry, scratch where it itches.
Sometimes, ya should just shut up.Because she's been terrible and I don't see potential in her
No you can't play 12-15 players, but as i've said those last 4 players SHOULD be players that are developing for the future not upperclassman who are NEVER going to play. Theres no purpose for that and it leaves a hole in your roster when you have multiple injuries. I've asked this before since we keep saying we're trying to stay a top 10ish team. How many top 5-10 level teams have 2 or 3 players on the end of their roster that they know will never play a meaningful minute and are not developing as future players?Do you think in today’s world you can have a roster of 12-13 players that all want to play? You’re ridiculous.
GuytonTotally agree with Wright being the best shooter on the team.
The other player who could develop as a spot up shooter would be Stremlow. If she could work on the Taylor McCabe catch and shoot, she would be invaluable as a flexible scorer.
This team really misses Guyton or a second point option. They have none.
Do they have players on their roster that are NEVER going to play or develop? Uh, NO......Do they play 12-13 players? The answer is no.
Well the team practices more than they play so you need 13 or 14 players for all those practicesMost players that know they have no chance to see the court will transfer before their junior season, imo.
Or at least players that want more minutes.
Wetering, Lauren Jensen, and Megan
Meyer are some recent examples.
Jada apparently doesn't care if she plays.
Just enjoying a free scholly with no expectations. Great gig if you can get it.
One would think a HC that wants to win would purge the roster of non contributing juniors/seniors?
Watched Illinois play much this year??Guyton![]()
I dont think many of the posters on this board know or remember what it is like to play BBall when you are overthinking things and maybe not sure of doing something. That is a player who is thinking too much. I hope you are right and Deal gets into more of a let it happen player where she just reacts, makes her moves, and takes what she is given on the offensive end.Ok boys and girls, get ready to toast me for this opinion. I feel that the most significant player in our push at tournament time will be Deal. Our inside game is good, our perimeter game a weakness without McCabe. We need a perimeter player who can get us 15-18 points vs tournament opponents. Although Addie has looked overwhelmed at times she has also shown glimpses of the type of player we need. I feel she is a better three point shooter than shown today and she is the one offensive player we have who can get the ball in the paint off the dribble and get a decent shot. Will she step up? Who knows but I believe Jan needs to push the issue a bit. Let’s not think about what she can’t do but focus on what she can do to help this team. I commented in another thread that I think McKenna will really help Addie’s game as we can then play a 4 out offense creating more space for driving and cutting.
Yes, bad turnovers isn’t just a Deal issue. Every single player seems to lack basketball IQ at times. Can’t try to force it through 2 defenders in the paint but everyone seems to think they can thread that needle.Maybe it is just me but I felt like she already had pressure on her coming into these LA games where friends and family were probably there. Bad recipe for a freshman.
I really like Deal still. The glimpses have me excited and we just have to chill. She is not the only one throwing terrible passes or having ridiculous live ball turnovers. Until this problem is reduced, we will struggle against anyone.
Unfortunately, Washington will not be a Q1 or a ranked team after a loss today at home against the Illini.
How do you ever get rid of players who are on scholarship but don’t make the progress to be core players, or suffer from major injuries and can no longer play? You still need practice players which now are the development players. NCAA sets the scholarship limits at 15, say you have 3 injuries on your roster and 3 developing players that leads you with 9 remaining core players to play games with.No you can't play 12-15 players, but as i've said those last 4 players SHOULD be players that are developing for the future not upperclassman who are NEVER going to play. CC didn't have any problems with the team's dominant post game attack. Quite frankly she thrived with it because it helped open up perimeter play.Deal didn’t play well. JJ has no idea how to utilize her talent. Why would she stay at Iowa if the offense will be a half-court, pound it into the post, no transition game?
My point being while Iowa "isn't there yet", we keep talking the talk, but we don't walk the walk. I can guarantee you that a top 5-10 team doesn't keep 4th year players around who aren't ever going to play. I mean the Iowa culture is fine, if we want to be the feel good story in the B1G. Supposedly we have bigger dreams, at least thats what our coach says, But the next CC22 probably isn't walking trough the door to literally carry this team to the brink of a championship. That means we need to upgrade the depth of the team so that we have players developing and don't have to rely on freshman or getting lucky in the portal. How do you ever get rid of players who are on scholarship but don’t make the progress to be core players, or suffer from major injuries and can no longer play? Now the UConn and South Carolinas can call upon their well paid bench of 5 stars and fill that void, others, not so much. Iowa has not reached that plateau yet.
My suggestion is players sign contracts for a published term and are held to the terms of contract. Also, perhaps a salary cap equal for all teams. Do I believe that this will happen, hell no! Having a neutered NCAA has delivered to us this situation.
Fire away friends!
CC played 38 mins. 38 of 40. She was solid but not special. 10 pts and 7 assists in 38 mins. She did not open up the permitted. Her size actually probably limited her effectiveness out west.CC didn't have any problems with the team's dominant post game attack. I don't disagree with what you are saying or what you are looking forward to. Top 5-10 teams are not developing players to compete. Heck, some teams aren't really recruiting freshmen much at all (TCU comes to mind quickly). These top teams (UConn comes to mind) can afford to stockpile the best players nationally, and then throw in a portal star from Wisc. to further dominate. My point being while Iowa "isn't there yet", we keep talking the talk, but we don't walk the walk. I will spell it out for you - there is one CC here and it is Caitlin Clark.CC played 38 mins. 38 of 40. She was solid but not special. 10 pts and 7 assists in 38 mins. She did not open up the permitted. Her size actually probably limited her effectiveness out west.

My question is how does Iowa or any other limited wealth school compete with this?
Mostly like they are with one major exception. Recruit the best you can and fill in with the portal, BUT tough decisions need to be made on filling the back end of he roster with "non playable scholarships". Fill those last couple of spots with developing potential growth players. Thats why I'm fine with someone like Callie Levin. I think she could contribute in her last two years. Kenise Johnson, probably not, and Jada, no.I don't disagree with what you are saying or what you are looking forward to. Top 5-10 teams are not developing players to compete. Unsurprisingly the school that can basically guarantee 4 Final Fours and a national title during your four-year career gets players that are okay with a limited role off the bench their first couple of seasons.don't forget to tell UConn
Asking Layla Hays to enter the portal after roughly 15% of her career at Iowa is complete seems a little short sighted. She needs to hit the gym and work on her shooting and passing. She has been terrible. A blind man could see that. It doesn't mean she won't improve.then you are a blind idiot who doesn't know ball AT ALL!
Well it is a young team with 2 freshmen and 3 sophomores either starting or playing significant minutes. I've heard it mentioned several times in the media that this is the youngest Iowa team in 13 years. And what’s the deal with JJ playing the youth card this year?
The game TM was hurt they stated 3 seniors.
They are younger now but not really that young of a team.
62.0% of the minutes played this season have been by underclassmen. For reference, that's nearly triple what it was last season (22.4%) and nearly four times what it was Caitlin's senior year (15.9%).And what’s the deal with JJ playing the youth card this year?

What wasn't a good look exactly? She started both games and played poorly. Would it have been a better look if she came off the bench and played poorly? As for passing, the Hawks as a whole are deficient. Deal needs to play without knowing that if she makes a bad pass or misses a cpl shots she will be on the bench. Freshman, on the road, and knowing a mistake will mean you are sitting down leads to hesitancy. These past two games she needed to know she was going to play. Especially in front of her at home fans….not a good look there.

It would have been a much better look for her to be able to relax and having an opportunity to get a flow going. Saw what happened when she did. We had nothing to lose…had virtually NO offense. Take Hawks post offense away and we just stand. Leads to forced shots and turnovers. What wasn't a good look exactly? She started both games and played poorly.
