Saturday mornings on MeTV, they run an hour of Bugs Bunny/Looney Tunes. I admit I sometimes watch at 58 yrs old. I watched those cartoons all the time growing up in the 1970s. I’m remembering the heavy dose of Schoolhouse Rock we got, especially associated with the Bicentennial.

TCM is a treasure. TCM has partnered with Fathom Events to show vintage films in theaters with Ben Mankiewicz hosting an introduction and afterword. TCM had a Rob Reiner memorial retrospective last week and Ben used his Fathom interview with Reiner on The Princess Bride, from 2017. Turns out that father Carl Reiner tried to buy The Princess Bride from William Goldman, it didn’t fly but Carl gave Rob the book and it was actually Rob’s favorite book as a kid. TCM celebrates excellence.

Most of my classical music appreciation was from watching Looney Tunes. 🤷‍♂️

Truth! Rabbit of Seville is the 2nd short on tomorrow night, followed by What's Opera Doc. RoS is probably my favorite Bugs cartoon (One Froggy Evening is an absolute classic though).

I have most of the DVD sets and a few BRs. Some time back, HBO (now HBO Max) featured the LT classics, remastered and in Full HD. These cartoons are classics and really should be completely remastered and re-released in a full set on BR.

We used to have TCM with our Comcast package, but they moved it to the sports tier or some idiocy like that. Now that Xfinity deep-sixed our cablecard (and rendered our Tivo useless), we have YTTV, which includes TCM. I forgot how much I missed that channel.

One other part of the introduction to The Princess Bride is this quote from Reiner: “To make The Princess Bride we absolutely needed to cast X. No X, no movie.” Give it some thought, I’m wondering how the board will respond. Who is X? In hindsight the answer seems to be obvious.

My favorite cartoons are the old vintage Bugs Bunny - Road Runner series. Yosemite Sam calling everything he rides a “mule” is one of the things still cracks me up.

I had the good fortune to see Mel Blanc give a talk in the speaker series at Penn State as a student. He did so many voices and it was hilarious. In addition to the Warner Brothers cartoons, he also did voices for many of the Hanna Barbera cartoon series.

"Colloquy" was the series, as I recall. Also had Allan Funt (Candid Camera) and Leonard Nimoy.

I’m 67 and remember my dad and me laying on the living room floor on saturday mornings watching Bugs, Daffy, his favorite was road runner. I have it set to record on my dvr and watch when I can. I wish METV would run Rocky and Bullwinkle on regular tv.

I remembered the name but wasn’t sure I spelled it right, so I left it as speaker series. I saw both Nimoy and Funt as well. Another very fascinating speaker was Vincent Bugliosi, the prosecutor for the Charles Manson cult murders.
