Sometimes you gotta acknowledge your limitations. UCLA and USC and Michigan will be horrible matchups because of the athletic disadvantage.

JJ has to make Iowa more athletic and dynamic on the perimeter.

Outside of CC and Kylie, little to no athleticism on this team.

UCLA game might be UConn 2.0.

USC was 3-6 in the B10 going into this one. They are far better than that record.

I said that coming in. They are a much better team than their record indicated. With that said, Iowa played terrible, especially in the first quarter. Addie and KF were both awful. It's understandable with Deal but KF is a senior. She needs to be better. Jan needs to tell Mallegni that she doesn't have to shoot every time she gets the ball. On the bright side Stremlow wasn't the least bit rattled and Houston continues to shine. I think Jan should start Stremlow vs UCLA. Let Deal get comfortable coming off the bench.

USC’s athleticism was a real problem. Dunn and Davidson are blue-chip pieces, no question. Add JuJu to that mix and you’re easily looking at a top-10 team.

No idea really. I think maybe it was Jan just realizing Deal didn’t have it tonight and Mallegni was a body. She had played a few minutes vs Ohio St. She didn't really play bad. She picked up 3 rebounds and an assist with no turnovers in 7 minutes. She just shot too quick and too often.

Losing to a good team on their court who just outplayed us is one thing. That's not what happened tonight. We got outhustled, we got outworked, we didn't seem to care as much, we played lazy on defense, we made dumb passes, we didn't convert on bunnies at the rim... all of those things are in our control and we failed on each of them. That's inexcusable.

I saw this coming. West Coast trip, USC very talented, USC wanting payback for last year, team maybe feeling a bit good about themselves after 3 ranked wins in a row. They were due to tank, too young of a team to not have a dip thrown in.

The remaining schedule is pretty favorable after UCLA.

Michigan at home and Nebraska on the road should be tossups.
Every other game Iowa will be favored.

That's likely a #2 seed at conference tourney.

So I don't necessarily agree with much of this. They certainly didn't play well. Didn't shoot well and they turned the ball over too much. Those aren't effort things, they're mental things. Seen nothing in this thread, just got done watching.
1. Chit chat needs to initiate all offensive sets against quicker teams.
2 if Hannah had Houston’s post moves she’d average 24+
3 why is Ava not the low person on high lows. She doesn’t touch the ball enough.
4 the officiating was subpar. They need a 2week boot camp yearly to just watch film. At least 100 hours in those two weeks. Not knowing worst footwork and what constitutes creating an advantage is a joke. This is a women’s game, it is not moving like a men’s college game or even a high level ha boys game. They were intimidated by the usc coaches constant whining. Must be an LA thing.
5. That’s the best announcing crew they could get? I’m not sure they knew a thing about Iowa that they didn’t read at the one they were calling the game.

In reality, traveling four hours west is tough and living out of a suitcase is harder.
USC came to play, we were sluggish and dug a deep hole.
Hannah's two early fouls were killer, we needed her senior leadership in the game.
Jan was right, it was a perfect storm.

Sunday will be tough, hopefully we start better. I still like this team, we are young and should learn from this.
