hindsight is 2020.

A new face always has the potential to do something different.

Many want Cal back, but Cal is not sporting Arkansas as a stepping block to the NBA?

Or is he?

I think he has changed his philosophy after leaving UK.

NIL has changed the OAD situation - Knox - Richardson - Wagner among others are making really good money & honIng their skills for future Pro careers.
I know of a kid from Chico St who’s playing in ICELAND & making great money - he’s played in Israel- Turkey - France - Spain - Greece & now Iceland since graduating in 2014.
Not the NBA but a great life & now has offers to Coach/Scout & be in game he loves for many more years.

Look at a guy like Fred Hoiberg, it’s took him 6 years but look what he has done at Nebraska of all places. NBA coaching experience, won conferences, won NCAA games. Got guys to the NBA. Which begs the question, how did UK end up with a 12 loss a year coach that hadn’t won anything.

I’d take this guy in a second over Pope. His offense is legit and coached at Lincoln Memorial for awhile and was around crazy south eastern Kentucky UK fans. He also is a New York guy with attitude.

441-125 coaching record. But I doubt he can recruit sec level players. He’d be hell of an OC.
Maybe not but his player he has at St Louis right now would likely beat us pretty easy. I think he was in Louisville’s top 3 before they chose Kelsey. College Basketball Report named him as next new up and comer.

How could UK lose by giving any guy in similar circumstances a two year contract?

These guys can coach better than Pope and theirs career have shown that. The only reserve I have is that I think the next coach needs to move the needle and none of these guys will get the media, recruits, excited or bring fear to the SEC. We need a big time hire, problem is, I have no idea who would do that outside of like a Brad Stevens, Billy Donovan, NBA type of hire. I have no idea which college coach could do this outside of Pearl.

McCasland, looks like he could be a good candidate. There’s a few coaches I’m watching right now to see how they do the rest of this year and next year. McCasland, T.J. Otzelberger, Jai Lucas, Will Wade, Travis Steele and there’s a few other names. I would prefer a younger coach this time around. Someone in their late 30s early 40s that understands the new college systems.

None of the current high school kids know Donovan or Brad Stevens. Neither of those guys would come here. Let it go. The St Louis coach is intriguing.

Calipari literally hasn’t changed a single thing. He’s the exact same, exact same offense and exact same recruiting.

The NIL was always going to keep his fringe NBA picks there. He didn’t change the game forced him to quit pushing so many out.

Calipari just hit it lucky with a legit class and fringe NBA returnees that he used to push out. Add in a guy like Wagner who can make more in college now and he just hit it right.

He will still blow it and won’t win anything at Arkansas. As soon as the freshman class goes Meh he’s going unranked and peacocked.

I've followed the Railsplitters for years. He was outstanding there and put a highly entertaining product on the floor. I watched his St Louis team eviscerate a decent Dayton team last, too. They shot 63% from the field and 61% from three. Someone will snatch him up this year.

Great Coach and Great Guy. My daughter graduated from LMU and she did the stats for all the ball games. So got to talk to him quite a few times.

I love his energy and offensive game plan (lots of threes) but also lots of motion. But would need a good passing and shooting center. He has Robbie Avila.

NIL changed the calculus for mid first round kids Cal used to lose to the draft. Now they make more coming back to school. If Chris Livingston was a few years later NIL would have kept him at UK. I honestly think he’s got a good formula going now. Get one or two sure fire lottery picks to come for a year and keep the rest of the fringe first round picks with NIL.
