Most of these foul calls are legit. We do foul way too much. Some are questionable. The need to learn they dont have to block everything. Force them into tough shots.

If you remember I posted on the Trove after watching the Blue/White scrimmage and talking to one of the coaches...I told him we can't play like that once the season begins because we are fouling on near every play. He countered that Holloway coaches like that but the players have to learn the refs whistle in each game.

But that's easier said than done when you play as we do. Not always, but often the fouls called against us are legitimate.

Coach like that on D and the players are going to play like that in the game. Accept it but don't make the excuse that the whistle is unfair.

Completely agree! Sha cannot teach this then pass it off on the players to change their style mid game and then cry about the league officials, the refs in game, and other coaches acting like the world is against him.

Man up, Sha and take some accountability.

This message board is so predictable. The minute things start going south, everyone chimes in negatively. Nonetheless, I am sure our posters are not different than other programs. And i would love to see the thread of when Sha was rumored to be interviewing at Louisville, and everyone was panicking.

There is no doubt the guy can coach. He did a very good job at St Peter's in years 2 and 3. And we all know what he did in Year 4. I thought he did a decent job for us in Year 1, and very good job in Year 2. The reality is if Richmond didn't get hurt in Year 1, we had outside chance to make tournament. And if he didn't sit out those 2 games due to NIL in year 2, we definitely would have made it. We all know last year was a disaster. This time 2 weeks ago, we were ranked 25th and took UCONN to the wire. There are too many respected people that tell you what a good coach he is. Does he need to improve in areas...Yes. Is he our best option without question...Yes.

We've really done a poor job of adjusting to the officials. We blame them more than adjust. Tough to watch.

The refs don’t give Sha the deference that Hurley Pitino and even McDermott seem to have. We foul too much, but not 2 or 3 times as much as the opponent.

When Sha becomes a Hall of Famer, multi-time national champion or NCAA Tournament regular, he'll get that type of deference.

And even then it is unpredictable.

Bob Huggins teams constantly battled this issue because of how aggressively they defended.

Hurley is a HOFer if he retires tomorrow, and went nuts after last year's Florida NCAA loss, telling the Baylor folks that he hoped they "didn't get screwed by the refs like us", or something like that. Now take everything Hurley says with a grain of salt, especially after a L, but he thought the officiating cost him.

And Pitino didn't get a favorable whistle in last year's NCAA loss to Arkansas with Kadary's foul trouble. If Kadary plays even just a few more minutes that game goes the other way.

I think I watch these games as a fairly unbiased observer, and frankly I think we can get called for even more than we typically do most games. Part of it is how we play. Part of it is being smaller in certain positions than our high major opponents, which leads to fouls. Part is being less skilled, because less skilled players usually foul more.

My observation applies to Big East refs.
