Van Ness would have to wrestle a lot better than he has the last couple weeks. Cant give up all those points and be on your back twice against a good wrestler. Hopefully he makes the adjustments soon.

BuckNuts didn't look really great against Nebraska today. I think they peaked already and now are on the decline..

True. I went back and watched the sequence again. That was one of those occasions when the lowest part of the scapulae was apparently within four inches of the mat. This is from the NCAA Rules Book: "Any part of both shoulders or both scapulae are held within four inches of the mat." Some people forget that the scapulae, and not just the shoulders, are included in determining near fall or pin criteria. In Shayne's case, when the official started calling near fall his scapulae looked to be generally within four inches of the mat, but it was close.

Which raises an interesting point. Two Penn State wrestlers have been cradled, taken to their back, and neither got pinfelled. Pretty wild that one even came back to win by tech.
125, 133, 157. Maybe 174 and/or 184 as well. 149 less likely, but could be in play.

Understand but that’s not the point many are making. Love SNV but he puts himself in some dangerous positions at times. Plus he’s not looked great on bottom at times with simple hand control. Just want him to capture his dream goal this year. It’s difficult to explain if you haven’t wrestled. I’m sure he’ll make the adjustments and be fine. Love him scoring a lot of points but like to see some better baseline defense if that makes sense
Aggressive wrestler get themselves in trouble time to time. Him not getting stuck when he got caught in the cradle tells me more than him getting caught in the cradle in the first place. He hasn't change from his freshman year. I don't expect him to change too much now. Don't assume that people with a different opinion than yours haven't wrestled.
174,184, and 149 a guy would need all out blinders as shaded glasses can't get you there. If ever the Mike Tyson quote was appropriate it is for this dual. It will be a beat down. People are having to imagine competitive duals since the bully Cael has eliminated them.

I think 184 is going to be closer than many are thinking. Fishback has wrestled most of the top guys pretty close and with Rocco’s penchant for low scoring matches I expect a 4-1 or 4-2 type match. I do think Rocco wins but that it will come down to the wire
8-2 seem most likely to me. 6-4 is worst case. 9-1 is absolute best case for us, as Mendez is as much of a "next question" wrestler as there is this year.
Yeah, this definitely has a 4-1 or 4-2 type feel to it, but I consider Rocco the favorite as well.

This obviously is not happening and who's to say it would go well BUT imagine Mendez is on the mat waiting on Davis and some anime theme song comes on and Ono goes running out to the mat. At the very least it would be wildly entertaining and going from facing davis to Ono would be interesting to see Mendez work through.
Unfortunately the only way Mendez loses is, if he slips and hits his head on the way to the mat.

By the time we get to the OSU match we are going to be talked out. If everything goes to chalk PSU wins 8 matches and OSU wins 2. If it ends up 7-3 or 6-4 PSU then OSU had anywhere from a very good night to a great night. Another measurement for OSU to have a good night would be 8-2 PSU with none to minimal bonus points.
A good PSU night is 9-1 or 8-2 with a ton of bonus points.
There will be zero training through and a small in season peak. PSU will win the 8 matches they are expected to win. Bonus at 125, 149, 165, 174 and 197. Mendez is winning, but I expect a decision. At heavyweight I am hoping Cole is ready to step into that territory of beating Feldman, but we will see.

Hard to argue with that outcome, but I do think we get more bonus.
That Nebraska result certainly took some of the steam out of the hype.
I don't have a difficult time explaining it, I think he's good enough to overcome these kind of situations. He takes risks and for most of the time it works for him.
This is psu not Iowa, we take risks.
