As a southern Kentuckian I find it very offensive and low class for folks in Rupp to boo Travis Perry, Ya'll really need to do better. Dude wanted to play for UK but it didn't work out. Please reserve the boos for folks who earn it.

He went to an in conference school. Come on. Had he gone to WKU or Bellarmine or Murray he'd have gotten a standing ovation.

Bama fans boo'd the hell out of MoD. It's gonna happen.

I've literally seen HS kids get boo'd by the student section when they transferred and played for another school. When you decide to change teams and have to play the original team, you are probably going to be boo'd at the college level and above. This isn't just a Kentucky issue. I don't personally boo anyone, but I don't think it's the worse thing either.

He should have stayed at Ky & been a backup PG but OLE Miss gave him a good NIL Deal & after being a Ky HS Legend he will be okay.
Heard he might play on OleMiss Golf team this Spring.

I think he made a short sighted play that he will regret long term. In total he will make maybe 1-2 million more if he stays all 4 years than he would’ve made at Kentucky. Ole miss fans will never remember him in 5,10 or 20 years and had he stayed all 5 at Kentucky BBN would definitely have set him up for life. So make 1-2 million more now and have less future earnings opportunities or still make good money now and be set for life. He doesn’t play much more there than he did here and his averages are barely better.

As for booing him I think that’s to be expected. You grow up a Kentucky fan and get the opportunity not only to play for them but also get paid to do it. You take the cowards way out for a little extra money because you don’t want to compete for playing time. Getting boo’d is on you at that point.

He wanted to play for UK “but it didn’t work out?” Dude was at UK and leaving was his choice. I’d probably agree with you if he was forced out. Pope wanted him to stay. He wanted to leave. That’s called making your bed and lying in it.

He's a paid professional. It's ok to boo professional players. If booing hurts his feelings, sports may not be for him.

10 years ago I may have agreed we could spare the boos but not in the year 2026. This is professional sports now and TP left on his own accord. He decided he did not want to play for his home state university and quit after 1 year.

Boos are totally acceptable and should be a part of professional sports. It is the American way.

Bama fans boo’d Mo D, I expect Florida fans to boo Aberdeen. Arkansas fans boo’d Malik Monk every time he touched the ball just because he chose UK over Arkansas out of high school. I don’t agree with it, but it’s what many fans do.
I don’t think it was “you suck” boos. It’s gamesmanship. Were are fighting every W right now.

Also it’s 2026 and these dudes are making tons of money. It’s just part of what it is now.

With that in mind, I have to believe that the boos affected him on the court and he went scoreless for the game.

No crying on the yacht.

One of the few cal-isms that i really liked.

Perry just isnt even close to being competitive in the sec. That was on display for cat fans yet again. Maybe by his final season, but imo that is a reach.

Imo the issue wasn't him leaving. I think basically every fan could understand him leaving if a team was dumb enough to throw money at him. It was how he left. You cant burn down every bridge on your way out and expect fans to love you.

Alllll THAT said, i too was disappointed fans booed him. He isn't nearly good enough to warrant even that level of energy. Our fans should've been smarter and just ignored him altogether.

I personally would not have booed him, but don’t blame those that did.

He is not playing more there than he did at UK last year. So it was about the money

You say "it didn't work out". Even though it was due to injuries, he played 300+ minutes last year as a FR. That's not bad. Actually, more than Noah. Most anyone would have predicted before the season that number to be <100. Would it have gone up this year? Probably not. His JR or SR years, it really depends on how much he improved (he shot 31/32% last year). Had he gone to a mid-major, I would have thought "he realizes he's not at UK's level, I get it". But he instead went to another SEC school, so that wasn't his thought process.

If you don’t want to get booed then don’t play sports. I got booed in high school by rival fans and I wasn’t even our best player. I even got called some pretty bad names when I ran by the other team’s pep section. I just laughed, I took it as a compliment that they didn’t like me.

It didn’t bother me.

I always had concerns about his physical ability to play at this level, and if he would’ve been from Wyoming people would ask why the hell are we signing a slow footed 6’1 shooting guard who can only shoot when absolutely wide open.

Again, the level of competition in Kentucky high school basketball is awful compared to other states. Most rural county schools start a 6’3 or shorter white center and the PG could be 5’6 and fat.

I would have been against booing in the amateur age, but Travis Perry will make more money playing ball at Ole Miss this year than I will at my job, so he’ll be fine.

I wouldn't have boo'd. No problem for those that did. It was more in fun than malicious. If you don't wanna get boo'd, don't transfer. Glad he missed every shot. Also wish he had stayed.
Most reasonable take right here

Ervin Stepp was a great scorer and his 50 something average a game is still a state record. Travis is also legend in Kentucky high school basketball, he wanted more playing time and knew he wasn’t going t o get it here. He is getting a little more now but not that much. Stepp knew his limitations and went to Eastern Kentucky for 3 years before finishing at Alice Lloyd. It remains to be seen if Travis can stay at an SEC school and ever be a starter and play as much as he would like.

I agree. I was surprised and disappointed, but ... I don't "know Travis Perry or his people" so ... I guess my expectations were off.

Can you explain how BBN would've set him up for life? You're referring to the fans correct?

I’ve seen people here claim that Ole Miss offered him a fat NIL deal, but I find it REALLY hard to believe.

The dude’s not even good at the ONLY thing he’s supposed to be good at. Only a 33% career three-point shooter and shooting threes is his only real D1 skill.

I can see why he could make fat NIL money at UK based on his status as a home state hero and the high school scoring record. But I can’t imagine why ANY other SEC level school would be willing to pay much for him.

We booed Thiero, Wagner ans Z last year too. It's part of it.

The boos rattled him as well. They were effective. He hits a couple 3s and that is a one score game at the end.

Our fans also booed our own team and started our mini turnaround against msu. It was effective as well.
