That all looks good. I'd add though that return greats like Dwight and Wetjen were great at reading the field and FEARLESS. It takes a lot more then sheer speed to win the Jet award , let alone twice in a row.....

DE is in good shape with Eppy, the kid from Elon and a few already in program. DT starters with Brice and Brice is good, but need depth and I'd guess we are still looking for a DT maybe after spring ball.

I’m wondering if we have some developmental guys who the coaches know are really good and ready to step in, I feel that way along the O line, and with Heck, wondering if that’s the case with D line. the area they went out and aggressively stocked was secondary, Linebacker is stacked with young talent.

Think after 2 in portal to go along with Hawthorne may feel like they are good. PP likes to play 4 DT and DE but will also rotate and mainly play 3 if feels there is a drop. Telling me maybe they feel good with those 3 plus one of the younger guys on the roster.

on a positive sign I think speaks volumes losing some LBs and only Montgomery returning that we didn’t add one tells me that Wallace and PP really like we what we have with underclassman like buffington, reis and the others.

wow i was/am thrilled with the portal guys we got but didn't realize that despite us getting a fairly big haul nebraska's transfer class ranking so comprehensively smashed ours. of course every year they apparently pull in higher rated talent but this year i'm surprised there's such a big gap

The portal is a disaster to rate until after the season, but if it makes you feel any better 247 has Iowa's composite recruiting ranking including transfers at 36, while Debby sits at 80.

I honestly don't worry much about it unless they hit a home run at QB. Iowa took a developmental route this year rather than than going for game ready players. I really thought Debby's Oline was going to take a huge step after their portal haul last year. Landing Spindler, and Prichett should have helped, it really didn't. The one piece that I was certainly jealous of was Nwaneri. That kid is going to be a monster.

Guys can't enter in the spring, but teams can still sign guys in the spring that entered the portal in the January window if they're still available.

Monette hasn't done much, I think Wheeler would be a solid add, but he is waiting on the Juco ruling to see if he is even eligible.

It’s also what you do with the 4* players when you get them. Developing and retaining them. Look at our conference foe to the west. Especially before portal every winter they were beating their chest about when another off season title. But when you looked at their roster 3-4 years later and those classes half had left and majority never panned out. Very few turned into actual difference makers. Miami before Cristobal was same way.
