You didn’t answer his question what you as a coach would do differently. Oh, tell them to not turn the ball over? Good job coach.
So you just don't think there's any room for improvement and that leveling any critique against this team is acceptable. Got it. Lol.

I'm negative because the mistakes are avoidable.

Come March if we continue to play with the same lazy tendencies we won't make it past the 2nd round of the NCAA tourney.

Maryland had 17 turnovers. Does that make our 17 turnovers ok?
So you're projecting they get knocked out in the second round. $100 says you're wrong.

Lol, yeah making monetary bets with anonymous message board dorks is against my policy.

Let's see how they're playing later in the season. I said if they keep making dumb, lazy mistakes they'd get knocked out by the 2nd round. If they don't I think they'll move farther.

whynot?

Lol, wow, so some of you just think getting after your players for failing to play as well as they're capable of playing late is out of bounds. Got it. Lol.
No, some people have decided you don’t have a clue what you’re talking about!

I'm crushed. Lol.

I think this team can play a lot better than it did late tonight. I don't think that's a bad thing. Apparently you're ok with celebrating sub-par play. Good for you. Warm fuzzies. Lol.

You said "We can pretend this team might make some noise come tourney time but there's no way. They're going to get cooked by top-10 teams"

Then you said "Have fun deluding yourself that this team is going to do anything come March."

Now you're qualifying those statements with ifs and buts.

They just beat MSU ranked number 8 in the NET, so you're already proven wrong on that top 10 statement. I don't need to qualify anything and I'm delusional enough to be telling you this team's floor is the sweet 16 and the ceiling is the Final Four, but must likely the Elite Eight. Feel free to copy and paste this and call me a dumb azz after the fact if I'm wrong. I'll be happy either way because it didn't cost me $100. 😃

I'm sure the coaches aren't happy about 17 turnovers but it's not like they were throwing it around the gym against a D2 school. Maryland plays an aggressive style defense and it can cause players to make risky passes.

Iowa is a young team and can certainly have ugly turnovers games (Uconn and Northwestern come to mind) but in general they do a pretty good job at taking care of the ball.

To put it into context:
Maryland forces 20.05 turnovers a game. They forced 17 against Iowa.

Michigan St forces 21.74 turnovers a game. They forced 16 against Iowa.

Oregon forces 20.8 turnovers a game. They forced 14 against Iowa.

Indiana forces 13.16 turnovers a game. They forced 10 against Iowa.

Nebraska forces 19.22 turnovers a game. They forced 14 against Iowa.

I said it the other day, the gap between UConn/South Carolina and everyone else is pretty huge.

This team could hang with about everyone else outside those teams and if their shooting is on, they could beat most other teams besides those two.

There's the top two or three teams, then there's everyone else.

So if the coaches aren't happy with 17 turnovers should they not tell the players they're not happy with 17 turnovers? If they're not happy with how they played late with the lead should they not tell them they're not happy with how they played late with the lead?

What mens game was even close to this??

We started like **** against Illinois and played like **** the whole game versus Minny.
Not like this per se. But the men have had trouble closing out first halves, giving up runs to let the other team get back into several games this season. That's why Doodle specifically said late-half meltdowns instead of late-game. The point is both teams would benefit from a more finely tuned "boot on throat" instinct as we get closer to March.

I agree 100% she is lost at times
And I think she either won't listen to her assistants or they're worthless so she just ignores them.

They won IN SPITE OF JJ tonite.
Under no reasonable circumstance can you blow a 17 point lead in less than three minutes.
Use of TOs, substitution patterns, and refusing to contest shots was beyond ridiculous tonite.

It’s a bit of a mystery and as I labeled a concern. Her D tonight was great. Missed a couple of shots she normally makes but some good assists. I’m can’t help but think as most of Iowas players were melting down and throwing the ball all over the place that AD wouldn’t have been a better option. But JJ is about loyalty and experience.
I’m a Deal fan but I do know this—-coaches play players they trust at crunch time. Jan knows who she trusts and doesn’t give a rip who we trust. Get used to it.

dumb having hannah in bound the ball when she is struggling, horrible coaching on their inbound sets and then not fouling up 3 is just moronic
Way too much time left to foul up 3, especially in the women’s game where a Maryland timeout advances the ball. That’s how you give yourself a chance to lose in regulation.. especially if we were having trouble inbounding it as well.

The 30% 3 point shooter happened to make her shot.

Because it's avoidable. Maryland being able to tie the game late was due to our players making lazy, dumb passes and missing FTs. Sometimes the other team is just going to outplay you late, I get that. That's not what happened tonight. We made lazy plays and lazy passes that put the ball in their hands and allowed them to take it in to OT. It was completely avoidable. That's the kind of stuff that's inexcusable. And it's habits like that that will get you bounced in March when it doesn't have to.
Only player that missed a ft in that stretch was 90% shooting Chit Chat.. rest of the team was perfect down the stretch on fts and CCW redeemed her missed fts and arguably biggest turnover of the game with clutch fts in OT.

But I would like to know..

If these errors are avoidable.. why isn’t the team able to grown and wins some games in March? If it’s already set in stone that Iowa won’t do anything in March then it isn’t truly avoidable. You should quit watching because they are wasting your time.

Scroll up dork.

I like this team. But you guys are kidding yourselves if you think we can play the way we did in the 4th quarter tonight and realize the potential we have come tourney time.
What BB team (besides UCONN) has not had some bad stretches of basketball this year? Chill. Iowa also had some great stretches of play, building a 17 point lead on the road. It happens.
