*****Iowa vs Maryland Game Thread*****

[QChawks]

MCCabe

[hawkeyewx]

The atmosphere in this arena is very different than the last time Iowa was here.

[QChawks]

Ava is such a great rebounder

I use her to demonstrate to my youngest son, the proper box up technique. She’s fantastic.

[QChawks]

McCabe

[QChawks]

CC11

[GeorgePeeples2]

Fun when the three pointers are falling!

[Jonesy5960]

Iowa defense on point so far.

[QChawks]

Maryland reminds me of Fran McCaffrey basketball

Just run it up and chuck up a shot

[UpstreamHawkeye]

Maryland is 0 fer on threes.

[GeorgePeeples2]

Maryland 0-7 from 3.

[Hawk48]

Stremlow dribbles too much and others not moving in half-court.

[Skydog0784a!]

Great game for McCabe to break her slump.

Ava and Wright getting a quick rest. MD cold, advantage IA so far. I like the trend.

[Hawk48]

Maryland will probably not miss those 3's all night

[Conn53victor]

I'll be listening to the radio tonight. No peacock for me.

If I were Fran, I would suggest Iowa-Maryland Link, but I am not Fran.

[UpstreamHawkeye]

Maryland is certainly not as dominant as when they first joined the Big Ten. I think it started in Gustafson's senior year when Iowa dominated them in the Big Ten tournament championship game.

[QChawks]

great charge CC

[Jonesy5960]

She gone

she picked up two fouls and got one shot blocked off in about 90 seconds of play

I don't want to bag on her. I just don't think she's ready and if Ava doesn't have any fouls and Houston is available I don't see a good reason for Jan to put her in there.

[IowaCityLit]

Keep being aggressive shooting 3s. Really like not forcing it into the post when opponents are sagging. Gotta create more firepower on perimeter

[Skydog0784a!]

Hannah struggling

[IowaCityLit]

HS oh goodness

[QChawks]

Maryland has only scored five points in the last 7 1/2 minutes

[GeorgePeeples2]

Kylie on D

[Denmar]

If HS had any post moves she wouldn’t need to shove defenders out of her way

[IowaCityLit]

Addie and Kylie playing great D.

[Jonesy5960]

That was the second elbow thrown

[Phat Stax]

I’ve got a lot of love for Stuelke, but the best way to defend her appears to be giving her options and making her decide.

[hawkeyewx]

It feels like Iowa should be up by 15.

[Skydog0784a!]

Alright, well done. We can’t count on MD being that cold in the second half.

[DTP2]

So much better than last two road games, but only up 6 feels like a letdown.

[WDSMHawk]

Maryland can't score against our set defense. Keep them off the offensive glass and out of transition and it's a W.

[Hawk48]

If HS had any post moves she wouldn’t need to shove defenders out of her way

agreed, she is pretty much straight line. If she had post moves she would possibly be one of the best in the country. JMO

[Skydog0784a!]

I can’t believe how anemic the MD crowd is. Might be the early start???

[IowaCityLit]

Both teams shooting poorly overall. Iowa 3 pt shooting the difference right now.

[Hawk48]

agreed she tends to melt down

[Denmar]

17 of our 34 shots are from the post and no FT attempts yet. Hmmm.

[Conn53victor]

As I watch the game on a sketchy link from my phone to a big screen, I also have the stats on another screen, so the stats update a few seconds before the video. My spouse prefers for me not to announce plays moments before they happen on the screen. I am considering adding another element by listening to the radio broadcast. Audio, video, and stats, all out of sync.

I realize that I have five active screens in action right now. I'm 75. A younger neighbor asked me to come over and fix her TV. She'd unplugged her Mediacom Modem. Old people are so... old.

[Hawksbyamillion_rivals316961]

Is the sideline / main camera view fuzzy for anyone else or just really bright there?

Same here

[Hawk48]

The fans are probably stuck on the beltway. Not sure why anybody would want to play in front of 2000 fans.

[QChawks]

we are pretty spoiled to have sellout crowds

Not many other schools can say that

last year
Average attendance: 8,190

I think their arena seats about 17,000

[Jonesy5960]

Alright, well done. We can’t count on MD being that cold in the second half.

Sure you can. Iowa played great defense in that half and forced 10 turnovers. That's how you win on the road.
