Winter Storm Watch for most of OK.

Travel issues likely from late Friday/very early Saturday through Sunday to possible Tuesday depending on how much snow we get.

Near blizzard conditions possible Saturday morning.

So if I'm supposed to drive to Fort Worth tomorrow night and come back Sunday night, am I looking at not realistically driving back until Monday night or Tuesday? It looked like ice and sleet in north Texas.

In all seriousness, if you don't have to, don't. I've driven from Waco to Tulsa in a bad ice storm. Thankfully the road I stayed on was flat and didn't curve much. I also drove in one from Arlington, TX to Tulsa. Even worse. I'm lucky I grew up in a place that got lots of snow and ice and we learned how to drive in it (we also had road crews that understood how to treat and plow the roads properly so the inconvenience was pretty minimal. Snow is much easier to drive in than the pure ice. All wheel/4 wheel drive is better if you have it (my Subaru does great in those conditions).

If you must go, buy yourself some ice melt/sand/cat litter to keep in your car as well as get some of the windshield washer fluid that has the de-icer in it. Worst part of driving in active ice storms is the ice caking on your windshield and your wipers being useless because they too have the layer of ice on them. Also, and I know this is a PIA, clear the ice/snow off the roof of your car. Sheets of ice flying off of one car and smashing into the car behind it have caused many an accident.

To Weatherdemon's post...if we stay below freezing until at least Tuesday, everything will be closed/canceled through Wednesday. While city crews may get to clearing highways and main streets like Memorial and all the #1st streets, neighborhood streets will be impassable until the natural melt occurs.

Also, do you have a prediction on snowfall amounts? I've seen anywhere between 3" and 14" and the latest trends seem to point to closer to the latter from the meteorologists I follow online. US model and Euro models are drastically different in this regard. Euro model is predicting a bomb of snow dropped from central Arkansas to central/south central OK with smaller amounts north of that line and a shift to ice south of the OK/TX border.

I would not.
My sister is supposed to take her daughter to an NCS deal and strongly recommended against driving down there as it could get rough.
The drive back may literally take days.

I assume driving down to Fort Worth on Thursday will be no issue, as it appears the weather comes in on Friday. But I would basically be looking at not driving back until Tuesday at the earliest, correct?

SEEKING ADVICE: I'm supposed to go to the Thunder-Pacers game Friday night in OKC. I was planning to drive home Saturday morning but I can't afford to get stuck over there for an extra day or two.

There may be major ice in the DFW area.

Thunder will probably win that one by 40. You may want to head out at the end of Q3 when Shai sits and get an early start.

We play in Houston on Sunday. Hopefully the team travels there early to miss the weather so they are already in south Texas.

Saturday, at 3:30p. Game has been move up due to weather.
Good to know. ESPN hasn’t updated the schedule yet. Looks like there will be a double header I. Houston that day as they moved up the women’s game to accommodate the men.

New York and the New England are just gets pummeled every year.
Not true. 36" in a 2-3 week span is above normal for an entire winter for where my mom lives along the coast. Usually the ocean temp helps temper some of the snow/ice accumulations.

They can get out of Tulsa on Friday for a Saturday game but my guess is they're stuck in Houston until late Sunday after the snow stops falling here. The weather predictions I am seeing almost point to TIA closing for part of Saturday and maybe into Sunday. Between the snowfall, near blizzard-like conditions, and the temps being so cold, it will be extremely difficult to keep planes de-iced properly for takeoff and you never know about the visibility upon landing.

LEC, check the ice accumulation forecast for Friday in and around OKC. I've seen where they will get more ice earlier on Friday before the snow comes in.

All y'all who grew up in and around Oklahoma gonna get a taste of what I dealt with every November to March in Massachusetts. One difference though is less than 6" of snow usually meant we were still going to school (rumor was if the Superintendent of schools could get his car in and out his driveway without having to shovel then we were going to school).

Two waves. First one Friday after 6 through Saturday morning.
2nd more potent wave later Saturday into Sunday.
Lowest model output I’ve seen for Tulsa is 8 inches. Some are in the higher teens.
