Is Carson Beck actually a student at Miami ?

A friend told me that Beck responded to a question about what classes he was taking at Miami by saying that he is not taking any....that he graduatd already from Georgia. No need for him to take any courses at Miami.
So, if true, what qualifies him to play football for Miami University ?

NCAA strikes again!!! If this is true and he isnt taking any classes, they should pull him from the game tonight.

It's not a rumor - he said at the press conference that he doesn't have class because he graduated from Georgia two years ago. The whole thing is silly at this point.

Stupid people believe what they want...they cut off the interview after he said that, but before he said that he is enrolled in classes for his Masters Degree, said he graduated two years ago, but has been in Grad School for the past two years. Someone, with an agenda, cut the interview when they heard the message they wanted to convey & did not use the entire interview. Listen to the complete interview!

Was about to post the same thing. Rules changed pre covid regarding the amount of class hours needed to be eligible once you graduate. There were stories of guys taking one 2 credit phys Ed class to be considered a student.

That' really shameful journalism, if that's what happened, regardless of whether it was intentional or not.

Good for that QB!

And the direct question was did he attend classes the day prior. Why would he be attending classes for spring semester when he is going into the draft? I assume he already finished his masters in the fall. Or is close to it. Most players expected to be high draft picks leave school that spring to prepare for the draft.

Semesters have not started yet for most Universities, so stupid question, since no player on either team took a class the day before the question was asked.

I wonder if he took any classes during the regular season or just went to Miami to play without having to attend classes while playing for the U ?

No classes is a bit wild, but Matt Leinart was actively joking about taking only a ballroom dancing class like 20 years ago. I think Joe Burrow did a similar thing at LSU his last year. I'd imagine this is going to end up with football teams only being attached to schools by name and with all players having the option to live on campus and take classes, if they desire.

Fall semester is long over, why would he be in class? He’s going pro tonight so not taking spring classes

As a grad student the school requirements are much different than undergrad. The same goes on at Rutgers. I believe there are people taking 6 credits. If you are going into the draft, you probably don't even bother with any classes.

Correct. He doesn't "have classes" right now BECAUSE the semester hasn't begun yet at Miami. Now...likely....he drops them for this semester to prepare for tryouts, etc.., but com'on people get the 411 right before starting a thread as such!

So, my take on it. With all the new rules and changes regarding portal. ALL player should have to take a certain amount of credits at all times until they either graduate with their BS or leave school early for the draft. And, anyone that has already received their degree but stays in college, needs to also have a set number of credits working toward an advanced degree. And it needs to be monitored.
Kind of an easy way to do this but $$$$ are way to big to govern anything like this.

Makes too much sense. Therefore it won’t even be considered .
